But the EU has around 250 million passenger cars on the roads, with sales averaging between 12-16 million cars per year. If EU car sales kept the same sales numbers, and ICE cars stopped being produced today, it would still take 17-20 years to substitute all ICE passenger vehicles with EVs. But that is not going to happen, and the oil industry and automakers will lobby governments to make the transition as long and fitting and profitable as possible... and even those 2050 'green transition' targets they have been talking about will probably never be met with EVs still being nothing but a sizeable niche market by then...

It is important to note that cars like Mclaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, are not designed for quarter miles, these cars are designed for fast and aggressive driving on long tracks. On a race track, the tesla wouldn't last even the first lap because its motors would burn out. In any case, the acceleration of tesla cars is excellent.

@@wordreet With the Tesla - The motor probably has more torque available, but it is limited by the battery. Atleast, that's the case with the non-Plaid models (and most EV's in general). Torque is definitely a huge component, but I think the real advantage is that EV's are able to put down that torque extremely well through millisecond adjustments in torque vectoring to throttle power and limit any amount of slippage. This is why EV's do just about as well on the street as they do on the track and without needing drag radials.

I can help you with your problem. Think about the Huracan and the TMX Plaid starting at the same time on the Nurburgring. When the Huracan crosses the finishing line, the TMX will still have almost 2 miles of the circuit left before it has finished its round. I guess the Lambo isn’t so silly after all?

The fun I'd have going that strip in the lambo compared to in the Tesla is just two different worlds. The tesla is quick, impressive. But listen to that V10, the gear shifts, the induction noise, the downshifts, the subtle pops.. Don't even get me started on when you try going around corners in the tesla vs the lambo.

I would suggest the Lambo is a car that can rarely be enjoyed. It's a status symbol for very rich people and nothing more. The Lambo would lose against track cars on a track, it's much slower in a straight line than a Tesla. If you accelerate in a Lambo on the street with launch control: 1. you look like a knob with the engine screaming 2. you get booked or have your car confiscated. The Tesla can enjoy the acceleration all day, every day. The lambo is fragile and requires very expensive maintenance and is uncomfortable. But here's the kicker. The next generation may pay fleeting attention to supercars, but they get excited about Teslas. All the friends of my 10yo talk about Teslas, not Porsches and Lambos.

Not even a contest in favor of Tesla. Acceleration comes from grip and power. The enormous weight of Teslas press them into the ground. Normally that weight would hold a car back, but the monstrous torque of electric takes advantage of this. So the Tesla has better grip AND power. RIP Lambo.
