I can’t believe there aren’t any comments here! I love Carson McCullers and I love Suzanne Vega! Great accent Suzanne 😉.

I get your point. I come across video posts on here, too, that surprisingly have no comments yet. You'd think with over 1400 views there'd be a few words in appreciation for McCullers' work, or at least Vega's words. But I'd say never be too surprised that few if any words are left in reference to artists who are little known now.

My first exposure to Carson McCullers' work was in the early 90s seeing the film adaptation of REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE. Intrigued, I tracked down the source material, the novella. Overall I was struck by the book's psychology and creativity. However what I found most salient was her narrative tone. This is critical in good writing. Her command was compelling, secure and effortless, at all times. In essence, the author is a guide to an illusionary world and the reader is the traveler. With McCullers assisting, one is assured of an unforgettable experience.

For me, McCullers was a remarkable artist. Her writing is highly perceptive, empathetic, and compassionate. It was honest in its portrayal of the place and times she lived in. Her characters had depth and authenticity, breathing fully with the joys, miseries, and the mundane of life. But I rarely talk to anyone about her cuz I got tired of hearing casual readers and those who aren't fans of such true to life fiction saying her writing is 'depressing' or worse. But it always seems to go fine if I dumb it down some and mention clearly lesser, genre-driven authors.
