Light hearted video of how to properly install oxford hot grips for scooters if your mechanically minded + have the right tools. I was hoping to hear if they helped keep hands warm as my fingers go numb. Best video seen yet, thanks guys

Thanks for that Susan. Great to hear! The grips take the edge off and make life bearable, but these ‘lite’ versions don’t get super hot. The full power oxford grips I have on my big bike are a lot lot better. Still.. it’s a compromise on the scooter because the battery and charging ability is so small. If I were doing this job again I’d probably just use the supplied connections direct to battery, rather than soldering. It wasn’t worth the hassle really 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for subscribing!

great vid. really liked the way you spliced the wires. simple but sadly i would not have thought of doing it that way and that gents is why i love the channel. I had heated grips but still got cold hands. I find that MX hand guards plus heated grips is the best way to be truely 'toasty the foggster
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 5 жыл бұрын
Cheers Foggy. We all come up with our own solutions. I’m sure yours would have worked just the same. Having tested the grips I think handguards might be a good addition as you say. The grips on their own aren’t fabulous. The other Oxford ones I have on the big bike are super hot. These ‘light’ ones are less so.

@@MechitBetter its 3 yrs old , ive had it a year, so its pretty good nick really. I was just about to tackle a service on it when i found your videos , which is great. My main bike is a tdm 900, but ive done more miles on my little scoot knocking about local than on the tdm, its just so easy to hop on and go. Again thanks for the videos as its my first scoot and was a bit dubious bout working on it. The only issue is the front brake caliper, the screw that holds the retaining pin is solid and cant undo it , so its either been over tightened at assembly or theyve put loctite on it.looks like its never been apart. But ill wait till pads are screwed , and just try to keep the caliper clean.
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 5 жыл бұрын
The calliper pin is a known fault. They all stick in. I take mine out regularly and clean/lubricate it. Try everything you can to get it out, otherwise you’ll have to replace the calliper when the pads need changing. I’m the same as you, I do more miles on my scooter than big bike really. It’s easy as you say. Handy for knocking about on and really fuel efficient. It just makes sense. I’d never had a scooter before either so it’s been an interesting learning curve. They’re not so different though really 👍

Thanks for all the Vids you guys really great work, Re Suzi Address, be grateful if you could tell me where the OBD2 connection is as the engine management light strangely came on during a steep hill climb and suspect it was a one off trigger so want to clear/reset to see Thanks Again
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers for that 👍 The diagnostics stuff is under the seat, on top of the petrol tank. You can short the terminals with a bit of wire to read/reset codes. The error codes flash on the dash. I’ve actually not done it myself, but there’s a video on the ‘Suzuki Address 110i Owners Group’ Facebook group that’s more or less followable. Facebook won’t allow me to share it here though. The relevant post is by a fella called Jjong Santos. I’m stuck away from the bike during lockdown, but if I can ever get back to it I’ll try to make a video about it. Good luck!

If it helps anyone my Address had a spare plug taped to the back of the starter switch, which was switched live. I used that to power my grips and it goes off with the ignition. In some markets/years the scooter is available with heated grips as an accessory so I guess this is the factory wiring for them. Save yourself some time messing with the rest of the wiring. It's even colour coded red and black.

Great informative video lads. Certainly helped me service my address. One question if I may ask. How do you adjust the tick over if its slightly high. Cheers keep up what your doing its certainly appreciated.
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Alex. Is this high idle thing happening all the time? I don’t know if the idle is even adjustable at home, what with it being an ECU controlled fuel injection system. The ECU should be controlling the idle which will differ depending on all sorts of factors such as ambient temperature etc. If it’s just noticeably higher than it should be, and consistently so.. my guess would be that there’s a slight air leak. Hard to say without seeing the bike!
@allew1246
@allew1246 4 жыл бұрын
@@MechitBetter hey many thanks for the reply. Will have another look for leaks. Think your right about it not being adjustable it was just my mate has a Chinese 125 which is injected and the tick over is a screw, so I thought it would be straight forward. It just happened and feels the idle tick over is just that too high. The bike is fine and the wheel doesn't turn when on the stand it also sometimes goes away and eases off when you at the lights. Anyway will have another look, all the best
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 4 жыл бұрын
It might sound daft but it could just be because it’s hot out. I think the ECU dumps more fuel in to keep the engine cooler. If you’ve been working on the bike just double check the fuel pipe hasn’t been knocked loose. Good luck 👍

Only new to the address family and loving the bike I’m thinking of putting a windscreen and maybe fatter tyres any feed back much appreciate thanks again
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you’re enjoying it Alan. Adding a windscreen has mixed reviews on the Facebook group. Some people love it, others say it directs all the wind at your face. If you’re taller, you might find it more uncomfortable that going without. As for tyres, why would you want to go fatter? If it’s for aesthetic reasons then it’s your choice, if it’s for any other reason you’d be best sticking with standard profile - Just make sure they’re quality tyres like Michelin Pilots etc.
@alanmurphy2410
@alanmurphy2410 4 жыл бұрын
@@MechitBetter Thanks for the quick reply going to test the windshield and see what it’s like as for the tyres it’s just that they are very skinny was worried about grip but il stick with ur advice I got a2017 black address was also thinking of adding a few decals thanks for the videos hope ur channel really takes off it you definitely deserves it from Ireland 🇮🇪 big thanks
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 4 жыл бұрын
Definitely stick with the standard profile tyres if you’re worried about grip. It’s a common mistake to think wider rubber equates to more grip. On a bike as light as the Address, all you’d be doing is spreading the little weight it has out even further meaning you’re more likely to lose grip or aquaplane. Think about an ice skate on ice. It cuts through the ice and provides traction. If you put your wellies on and try the same thing, you’d be all over the place. I have Pilot Streets on the Address and ride it like I stole it, and I’ve never wanted for grip. Maybe a bit more speed sometimes! Speaking of which, adding more rubber will just slow you down. Think road bike vs mountain bike. Suzuki really know what they’re doing when they design things. Don’t worry about it. Just be the best rider you can be and enjoy 👍

Would have loved to see a video of painting the exhaust and removing the rust. Just wondering how did you get rid of the rust and what paint did you use?
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 5 жыл бұрын
Apologies. It didn’t seem to merit a video on its own, but it was easy to do. I just blasted the hell out of the exhaust with a wire wheel on the angle grinder to remove the few bits of rust, and key up the remaining factory paint. Then I just slapped on a thin coat of VHT (very high temperature) woodburner/stove paint. It only needs to be thin. It sticks very well. Then I left it to dry overnight before putting the exhaust back on the bike and going for a ride to cure the paint. Seems to have done the trick for now 👍
@MechitBetter
@MechitBetter 5 жыл бұрын
Oh, and I just used a 1” paint brush. Nothing fancy. The paint does a good job of levelling itself out flat so long as you don’t put it on too thick.
