You really shouldn't be jumping a DR650. It affects the earth's orbit every time it comes back down

I’ll take that into consideration and try to shave some weight off, the bike and myself!

The DR650 is the middle ground, reasonably priced, largest dual-sport, that isn't an "ADV" but works well as one. Not as dirt worthy as the XR650, not as street worthy as the KLR650, it's the goldilocks zone of big dual sports. Suzuki decided that bigger tanks, better skid plates, taller crash bars, were food for third party vendors to fight over. Hat off for encouraging the after-market suppliers. The KLR has some serious followers, but once a DR is modded to what a fully dressed KLR has, the price is about the same, and the DR with two inches more ground clearance, one and a half inches more suspension travel, air and oil cooled, with the same reliability, I can only believe people take the KLR over the DR because of brand loyality, as both are very wrenchable.

Jeff at Procycle stripped a mighty DR down to around 320lb curb. That's similar to s DR-Z400S or a CRF250L. It's close to what an XR650R weighs. Just a skid and knobbies make the DR pretty capable on dirt. The aftermarket can make it WAY better. Sort the carbing, upgrade the suspension, and shave weight. It'll still run slab pretty nicely all day too.

I have an xr650l and I've been really surprised by how well it handles everything for a 350+ lb bike. I mostly ride on asphalt, and haven't been out on a dirt bike in years, but so far when my adventures go south it eats it up. Large stone creek crossing, 3-4' near vertical muddy climbs out of the creek, and whatever else just fall under it like nothing. I really think the mega thumper dual sport is the sadly most over looked like style out there, and it's going to be a shame when the DR and XR fall to progress like the klr has. Be nice if they'd leave us grumpy luddites something nice. 😂

@@sundaynobody they were awesome until about 80% worn. They did great in the dry, wet and even snow. But once the tread wore down in the centre the edge lugs became very sharp and would fold over easily in turns. The front tire also scalped and would speed wobble near the end too. I got 4500km on them before they started misbehaving haha
