They don't sell complete 1.6 motors, but sounds like they can help with what I need. Think I lost a thrust bearing, the lower crank gear is all ground up into the oil pump. Tough ass little seal! I got photos but not sure how to share them here.

How can we tell the difference between the 1.3-1.6 engine?

That is very easy. If you look at the back edge of the block on the driver's (US) side next to where the engine mates to the the bell housing, you will find a flat surface with the displacement cast into the surface, It will read either "1298cc/1324cc" for either of the 1.3 engines or 1598cc for the 1.6 engine.

I read that 8V non-interferance, 16V were interference from the 96 FSM.

Although I eventually found this out through other means, I drove mine 2,400 miles across the country during a move before learning it... so there was a *lot* of pucker on that trip! Dang it... I just looked up and saw my belt and water pump kit too. Gotta stop watching vids and do these things!

Without the timing belt the engine doesn't sound normal as you're cranking the engine. There's a guy out there that soaks his belts in(I'm serious) Armor All, please don't do this, modern belt technology doesn't require a pre-soak
