Haha, put it into perspective. Getting a bike for the price of a cell phone. Goes to show how much we overspend on phones and how cheap this bike is at the same time. Any adult learner would be crazy to squish onto a 300cc when they could have this for less $.

I finally got my GS working and it's amazing. Mine has either 75.000 km or 175.000 km (gauge says 75, but I found a receipt saying 90.000 in the manual and the gauge cap is 99.999) but after some initial problems it runs amazingly.

Hmm yeah really depends on the rules in your country too. However, my advice would be to learn on a small bike first, and then upgrade after a few years. You'll grow tired eventually, and you'll never be a perfect rider on your first bike.
@topherkoot86875 жыл бұрын
Hiya! Regarding the whole 'upgrade' thing.. It isn't really required. I know someone who is going back to a GS500 while owning a V-rod. He reckons the GS500 is all you need less touring. My experience is far less, but 500 cc is more than enough for the speed limits in my country. A 650 would be nice i admit, but not needed. Keep a GS clean and maintained & even a 4WD taking you off the bike won't stop it. They just keep going.

Looking into this bike, did prices increase or is it Belgium that just has higher prices per usual? I'm having a hard time finding a decently powerful/sporty motorcycle to start on with my A2 that doesn't cost more than € 1500 Only cruisers like the Yamaha 535 seem to go that low, but I'd prefer to start on something a little more sporty :l Great video btw, makes me wish it was 2020 already haha
@TooLazyToThinkOfUsername5 жыл бұрын
Hahah yeah this one was listed at 2900 and I got it for about 2100 euros at 11k km in the Netherlands. Was a bit cheaper because the owners lived in the middle of nowhere and not that many people would want to come pick it up
@Sfekke5 жыл бұрын
@@TooLazyToThinkOfUsername ah now clean/working GS500 for €1500/€1750 and +-15000KM suddenly seems like a better deal Imma just say it again, I really enjoyed your video and it gave me a clear idea of what I want from my motorcycle I can buy new, but I too fear dropping a brand new Ninja 400 Besides I'd much rather learn to ride on a cheap not too powerful bike, after two years go for that full A license and then get a brand new CBR650R from the dealer Unrelated rambling aside, do you still have your GS500 and how's maintenance & is it still fun to drive?
@TooLazyToThinkOfUsername5 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can actually get them for like 1000 if you dont mind the look of the older models! I still have mine actually, A2 noobie here as well haha. And you've got exactly the right mindset, I wanted a ninja 300 but this one in the end has more power, with the added bonus of not having to be too cautious about how I treat it. Maintenance wise I've just had to change the tires once, oil once and last week one of my friends showed me how to change my chains. Still runs buttery smooth as long as its not freezing outside. In that case it just takes a bit of finessing to start it up ;)
@Sfekke5 жыл бұрын
@@TooLazyToThinkOfUsername I'll definitely take a look at those then, they seem to be quite common here on secondhand websites so a bit of patience could come in handy =) I did my fair amount research before even deciding to get on a "two wheeled death machine" haha Glad to see I got it right so far Maintenance sounds usual, couldn't find any reports of major issues with any of the model years either but never hurts to ask a current owner ;) Not really too worried about cold starts, I'm mainly getting into this as a hobby and something for the summer/spring and something to wrench on in the winter And hey nothing like getting that finesse down just right and starting it after blood, sweat, tears and about 5 batteries :p

@TooLazyToThinkOfUsername5 жыл бұрын
No, the engine hasn't been changed pretty much since the bike has been out so it doesn't matter what year the bike's from. Spend the same amount money on the same bike but older, with less kms
@gaidindi5 жыл бұрын
@@TooLazyToThinkOfUsername Thanks for your prompt answer. However, that's very difficult to find. I think these bikes can make 100.000 km. 30.000km is a reasonable remaining lifespan if I think I'll make 5.000 km every year (an average of 13km every day) because then the bike will last 6 years until it finally dies!

Better off with a more aggresive bike to start with than a piece of shit that can barely or cant even do the highway speeds in a headwind without needing you to lay down, besides the GS500 isnt even agressive its a pretty tame bike nothing over the top for a 500.
