I had a 1976 GT750 Water Buffalo and then got a 1978 GS1000, which is a slightly bigger brother to the GS750. The GT750 2-stoke triple had horrendous handling, reminiscent of an over-loaded wheel barrow, I think largely due to a high center of gravity and an unusually short wheelbase. But my GS1000 handled like a dream!!

I had a 77. Bought it used in 1982 for $550.00. Previous owner put a full size Pacifico fairing and Calafia saddle bags, large trunk and comfortable custom seat. It had 13,000 miles on it. When I sold it 5 years later it had over 66,000 miles on it. That was the best most dependable solid bike I ever owned. Even with all that added weight it still handled so well. Wished it had shaft drive since it ate many 630 chains. Rode it year round in Oregon through rain, sleet, hail. I drool whenever I see one on KZbin. Not many left today.

After learning to ride on a '73 (or '74, can't recall) Honda CB350F, I bought a new Suzuki GS750 in 1978. I was you and didn't know much about the GS750, only that it was larger than my CB350F and it looked cool. So I got lucky in choosing that because it was a great bike for many years of riding with nothing more than basic routine maintenance.

Still have my 78 GS750. My dad got it for me in 81. I was 16. I got my mc license on that bike. I'm 55 now and will never sell it . Great bike.

Always loved my GS750, after a few years moved up to GS850 but always missed my GS750. Great video brings back many happy times on it.

My 1978 is still my daily rider. About 80,000 miles (~130,000 km) and still runs like new.

For a 78 model daily rider that is extremely low milage, my 1980 GS850g purchased new ,and a daily rider since, has 847238km on the clock and only on 2nd oversize pistons. It goes where i go,rain ,hail or sunshine. 5 trips around Australia and Cairns to the GP races every year without fail,can't kill a GS.

great video, I feel so sad that I didin't keep my gs 750, all you tell is the truth, the bike was so smooth and for me so important, it was the most realible bike I ever had, cruised almost whole Europe on my Suzuki without any fails.

Cracking film, keep up the good work. My father ran a large Heron Suzuki Dealership in the West Midlands in the mid 70s. I still remember as a child sitting on GS's and 'Kettles' and RM motocrossers. Happy Days.

I was on my ap50 back in 1977 ,remember seeing a wire wheeled one ,black with gold pin stripes, gorgeous, bought a gs550 version in the eighties but the 750 was the best engine of the GS series.

Straight out of college, bought a blue 1977 GS750 and toured the U.S. with buddies on a Triumph Bonneville and Honda CB750. Still have the bike and still runs smooth as ever. One memory is being stopped, and then surrounded, by 4 cop cars in Oregon. After a half hour of interrogation that determined, no, I was not the guy that had just robbed a local bank and made his getaway on a blue motorcycle.

My friend had one and I had a cb750 f1, the Suzuki ran rings round the Honda. When I had a ride the front wheel was in the air half the time, I loved it:) I eventually bought a gsxr1100 in 87, but my favorite bike was a 76 GT380👍

I remember collecting mine from the dealer. I'd had othing like it before - so beautifully smooth. Added 4 into 1, Rearsets and Flat bars. I loved it.

Just finished an identical GS550 version in the same colours etc. Not a cheap restoration! Looks fabulous and identical to one I owned in 1981. They just look like proper bikes. Can’t explain the feeling when you see it, just pure nostalgia I guess. If I could can that feeling and sell it.. maybe I could retire.

I got to ride a mates GS750 in the 1990s after being off bikes for a while. What a beauty, it felt just right, not heavy, nice handling and plenty of power

Used to hire this range of Suzukis from ACTION SUZUKI at North Sydney forty years ago . What a revelation they were . Campbell Town to Canberra in 1 hour 45 minutes . The GS series performed well in the Castrol 6 Hour Production races , for stock standard bikes , held at the tight 1.9 km Amaroo race track . This was the track and race that Mike Hailwood started his come back in 1977 .

Bought one new in 1977 and took my friends (Hona and Kawasaki owners mostly) by complete suprise when they realized the GS-750 was FOR REAL !! I loved that bike!

Bought one new in '78. I was just but 22 years old. It had a couple of problems with the cylinder head gaskets but eventually got it sorted out. I had it for 3 years and then later on I bought a couple more used ones at different times. I have fond memories with it. I have 3 motorcycles in my garage today and am still an avid rider. I have ridden all over the western U.S. and hope to ride well into my 70's or 80's.

I purchased a GS 750 back in 81. Great bike and Yes it was great in the curves. Wish I still had it. I’ve had lots of bikes in the past 40 years. I’ve always been partial to four cylinders. Today I ride a 2000 Suzuki Bandit 600 and love it. Great video! Brings back lots of memories!

Back in 1982 I bought a new gs750e. I loved it. It had anti dive valving on the forks. It was black with red pin stripes. I wish I had it back.

Back in the late 70's my buddy got one of these and a year later I got a GS 1000 to one up the mthrfkr. Those bike were indestructible.

These were really cool bikes. I had little 550 in the 80's. I found a 77 750 in 1999. I was wasting my money on any older bikes i could find. I gave it to childhood friend if mine. That thing ran like hell. I'm on a modern gsxs 750 these days.

I had one exactly like it when I was 16 back in 1988. I worked all summer to pay for it. That bike had so much acceleration, just glad I never wrecked it.

I bought a 1976 used one circa 1980. As far as I remember it had spoked rims. Rode it for at least seven years without really any servicing. Considering it spend it's life outside all through the year that was quite some feat. Put some racing handlebars on it and it was the only bike I ever felt like one with. Pretty indestructible I would think unless you drive it into a car like I did.

I have a 79 bike just like that. had it about a year and really pleased with it. Easy to work on and well thought out and well engineered. Suzuki may have 'borrowed' a few ideas from other good bikes of the period, but nothing wrong with that.....when some other bikes 'borrowed' some bad ideas from others ! Still a cracking machine 40 years on.

I moved up to a GS750 from a Honda Dream 250. What a change, it was a revelation for me. Lovely bike. Eventually went on to a GSX1100ET.

Amongst my classic bikes from the 70s which included a Z1 and CB750 I had a 1978 GS550 which I reckon still was a brilliant little bike and had aside from the air box had the same styling and smaller 4 cylinder engine. Even all these years on I still miss these old bikes and still love the styling we see today on retro naked. Great job on the video and thanks for bringing back some great memories. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I just got one last week. A 77 model and fantastic condition. And everybody who says these things just work, they do. Whoever had it before me must have taken good care of it, because it will still kick over cold first kick. I can't believe it.

Bought the GS1000 brand new in 1979. What a great bike that was. Super fast for it's time, smooth and comfortable. Paid $2400 for it, sold it three years later for $2400. Later I traded a progressive reloader (Dillon 450) for a GS850. Restored that bike to really nice condition and rode it for several years. My wife and I put many a mile on the GS1000 traveling the back roads of northern Arkansas, camping as we went. Good times.

I bought a 77 GS750 back in the 90’s for $400. I rode her year round. Amazing motorcycle. Huge gas tank, handled like a dream. The engine reminded me of a sewing machine. Later on I moved up to the Nighthawk 700S.

This was the first 750 I bought. It was a great bike to ride. I did however put handle bar from an xs 1100 Yamaha on it . The bars made it even more comfortable to ride. With saddle bags and black lambswool seat cover , I could ride all day in comfort and it really did turn heads.

The sound on the video really brought back memories. Not sure if the European tune was different, but my US version really took off above 4K RPM. The US press said it felt like a 550 below 4K and a 1000 over 4K RPM. My '79 was assaulted by the US EPA and was awful as delivered. It would barely idle. Luckily I had a good local accessory shop, so carburetor jets were plentiful. Great bike.

My first 750 was that bike. Same color. I loved it. My 2nd 750 was a few years newer KZ750 that I cammed and piped. It ran with the Ninja 900 and my friend had a GS750 4 valves per cylinder. He was upset that my bike was faster than his, but it was modified. My last 750 was the first year GSXR 750 that came to the US. It was 2 years old when I got it in 1987 or 1988. That was a entirely new animal. I rode it up and down the street. Redlined it through 3 gears and hit the brakes and could not believe how much better it was than anything I had ever ridden. It was bone stock with cams advanced a little I think. I was only 135 lbs and that thing didn't even know I was on it. I never lost a raced, straight drag or on the twisties. I raced every kind of bike that was out except the GSXR1000. It was light. Wheelied when shifting into 2 and 3rd. I did a 10 second 1/4. I had that thing over 150 mph many times and there was no helmet laws back then. It handled the mountain roads so good. I am very lucky to have survived those days and had more than a few close calls with death. I had long hair and it would take me 1/2 hour to brush the knots out of it from the bottom up. A lot of people died on bikes back then. A lot more got messed up. Broken up road rashed and crippled. One friend is in a wheelchair for life. After that bike, these old dinosaurs really just do nothing for me except remind me of my youth. I would never ride one of those steel framed bikes again. The GSXR was not just a little better. It was leaps and bounds way ahead. I rode a modern GSXR 1000 last year. 2017 or 18. Yeah, it almost got away from me. Front end came straight up at 6 or 7k rpms and almost put me on my ass. I was like, um, no. I'm too old for broken bones and road rash but it was fun.

@@BrightsideMedia I get it. But I can not get over how much safer the new stuff is. If I did want to ride again, It would be something that handles great and stops great. I have dodged so many moron cages in my life in ways that couldn't be done on one of those 70's machines. But even with all the tech, where I live, Southern California, it is a jungle and you will end up relaxing in the hospital or a casket. It is not a matter of if, but when. Be careful on those dinosaurs.

I bought mine in mid 77 and changed the tires and the footpegs and took it roadracing. Started bringing home trophies right away. The only weak points were the brakes and cornering clearance. I used to wear through the muffler clamps in corners. After the weekend I’d put it back on the road and enjoy it . Great bike.

This rekindled recall of how excellent there machines were and still are. I was a mechanic/service manager for a Kawasaki/Suzuki shop in Westchester Co, N.Y. during this time. Many a test ride on serviced Z-1s and GSs including the GS400 Suzuki that was about the same break-through engineering in a smaller package. The Suzukis were finished nicer than any other make I came across in that period and worked just a little slicker - it was a fabulous period for motorcycling.

Own a 1981 GS750 I saved from the weeds covered in a tarp since 1988. 7k original miles. Hopefully she’ll be done by spring. No where near original was forced to make her a cafe due to all the rot but if I have my way she’ll sing again come March.

My father still has his 79' GS750L. It's beautiful and I always loved the sound. His has a Kerker 4 into 1 exhaust and it sounds much crisper and smoother than the twin exhaust from factory.

My first "Big" bike. Absolutely loved it. This bike exactly, except for the wheels. I'd destroy my pals in the twisties. And pretty much rock them at the stoplight GP as well. My best bud is a lifelong Honda rider (me too, mostly) but a ride on the GS when it was pretty new had him saying that it was the best handling bike he'd ever ridden. Sold it after 6 years, change of life circumstances, lost storage too. Miss it still.

I’m 64, I’ve had a bunch of bikes, currently on a GW. My only Suzuki I can recall was a 750 water cooled 3 cylinder I had in high school. I think they nicknamed them water buffaloes if I remember. I bought it cheap I remember. One of my friends had a GS 750, it was a beautiful bike and it was a rocket.loved your video, very nicely done.

Bought a GS 750 brand new in 1979. That was a sweet bike. Like this guy says it handled great, and had serious power for it's time. I put a Windjammer on it and rode cross country. Sadly it got hit by an out of control driver while parked in front of my apartment years later so that was the end of that.

I used to know someone who had one of these. Then, after a 15 year break, decided to get another bike. As he had good memories of his GS750 he decided to have what he thought was the modern day equivalent, a GSXR750. He obviously didn't think it through properly and realise how much more powerful bikes had become in the intervening 15 years. In fact he said the first time he rode his GSXR750 he nearly crapped himself!

Had a 1975 Z1-900, a 1979 GS-750 and a 1979 Honda CB-750(not all at the same time though). The GS was hands down the best. The Z1 had THAT MOTOR and great looks, but not much else. No brakes or suspension to speak of, what seemed to be a hinge in the center of the frame so it wobbled all over the place, it ate up rear tires and pushed the front all over the place. The CB was civilized, smooth and mushy, and a nice bike. But the Zuke, it was the one. Wish I still had it, but don't we all......

@@sharp2684 Sharp, you’re a bit confused there. We’re talking about the four-stroke four cylinder GS750, not the two-stroke three cylinder GT750 from a few years earlier. As a former owner (for nearly 10 years) of a GS 750 from new, I can assure you that it most certainly was NOT a dog and was possessed of the most stable and smooth handling of any of my bikes. No speed wobbles whatsoever, beautifully stable mid-corner and with a very strong and super-reliable engine and electrics. The original headlight was pretty crappy however, being a sealed beam unit with 35/50W. So that was one of the few things that I had to change. I swapped in an SEV Marchal - with a much more powerful H4 halogen globe. The increased illumination and much better focus an beam pattern were essential for riding Australian country roads at night. The other things changed were a slightly higher handlebar and an anti-lockup pressure limiting device added to the rear brake circuit, as that brake was a bit strong, leading to the occasional brake lockup under heavy braking. Good old “Redeyes”. I still miss her from 35 years ago now. She was only sold because I had to give up riding - crook elbow at the time meant that holding the throttle open became unbearably painful after a couple of hours in the saddle and I had been going regularly on quick 6-hour rides (or longer).

Damn this brings back some memories! I bought a new '82 GS750T, basically a stripped down (cheaper) E model with a single disc in front and drum brake in back but the same engine. I did the standard mods for the time, Kerker 4 into 1 header, rejetted carbs, K&N pods, a set of K&N "Superbike" style handle bars (yeah K&N sold handlebars) and Metzler ME33 front/ME77 rear tires. I put a lot of miles on that bike and rode it regardless of temps as long as the roads were clear of ice and snow. My friends all thought I was nuts and I was LOL. I miss it sometimes, especially on sunny Fall days when I find myself on some blacktop back road full of curves and hills with no traffic.

I learned to ride a GS125 at 28 then a year later bought a blue '78-reg 750. Wow. 5x bigger engine! 😂. Dropped it on a petrol station forecourt ramp on my first post-purchase ride and nearly did myself in lifting it up. Loved that thing. Drove the perimeter of France with the wife on the back. It was so comfy she nodded off a few times :-) If anyone wants to sell UMC135S I'll buy it!! ❤

To me the '78 gs750 was a gift from God. It handled waaay better than the venerable CB 750. Much faster too. Light, agile with rocket acceleration and very good fuel economy. And the GS1000 was the goat of 70's super bikes. I started out with a GS550. Smooth, outstanding handling, faster than any other 4 cycle 550 of the day and with a 6 speed tranny to boot. I rode all over California with it.

I had a '78 S Reg in the same colour bout for £400 sometime around 1982-83. It's the only bike I ever regret selling. Beautiful looking.

My Baby is a. '78 GS750, discs on both ends was a revelation for the time. I think there is a valid point to be argued that the Suzuki GS750 was THE progenitor for modern "crotch rockets". I'm planning on picking up a SV650X in the not to distant future. Simply because I feel my GS750 needs a sibling. I feel that the Cafe craze is simultaneously a good thing and a blight on vintage bikes. My particular example will remain as stock as humanly possible until I'm dirt.

Wow.... Lovely machine. Excellent memories.... First one I rode had an aftermarket 4-1 exhaust.... I want to say it had a Devil "silencer", but my memory is shady, the bike wasn't mine and I have no pics.... It was certainly a handsome bike. It was the first time I'd come across valve adjustment with shims and at the time it just seemed so very complex and alien. But... What a machine. Nice video of a bike that was so, so much better than its reputation. For emotional as well as logical reasons, probably my favourite UJM. The 850, on the other hand (they were all shaft drive in the UK) was an unrideable supermarket trolley of a bike. Hard to believe they had the same DNA. The 850 wasn't helped by many having massive Rickman fairings to add even more wallow. As horrid as the 750 was divine. Others may have their own views, but they are probably wrong.

best Suzuki i ever owned.mine had a Kerker 4 into 1 pipe.i've had a few 2T suzi's a GT250 and a rare 125 Stinger!

I had one in 78 (until a van pulled into a turning in front of me), it was a fantastic bike easily better than the Z650/900 and the handling was superb.

I have that same bike in that same black/blue color scheme! Similar Daytona style bars and mild crash bars. I love it! Just wish it had electronic ignition. By '78, it should have.

My first bike, brand new 82 GS 750 E. $3700 bucks and I had to get a loan at 21% back then. Loved it but it eventually got stolen. Also had an 84 but didn't like the seat on that one. It sloped forward which sucked when braking. Finally in the 2000's I managed to score an 82 GS 850 that was absolutely mint, not a spot of rust and 9000 km. Drove it for about 8 years and sold it for 2800. It still looked mint. Down to a 2014 CB 500 F now and having a blast with a smaller bike. Always loved Suzuki's, dead reliable bikes that did everything well.

I had a Suzuki 1982 GL650L and it handled pretty good and was fast. Sold it back in 2008 .

I had one for 10 years,the 90 ies. Mine was a 79 GS750E. Can confirm, on Michelins the handling was phenomenal. I could scrape the exhausts on every corner... I was young and stupid on this bike and am happy I survived scott free. Though I did crash it into the side of a car.

いいバイク、GSX750EもかっこいいがGS750もいいバイク。 スズキの旧車もいい物沢山ある。 特にT500にGT550、ロータリーのRE-5は隠れ名車。 是非とも部品の再生産してほしい
