What will say is, when the Versys 1000 got electronic CC and suspension in 2019, it also got a $5000 price bump as well as a weight increase. It's why I still own and love my 2017. If you want those electronics bad enough though, go for it.
@ganuvien

It could theoretically be much cheaper if it had regular suspension instead of electronic suspension. I think it's priced right for what it is but it's definitely not selling well here in the U.S. (Texas at least) because a lot of dealers have the 2024 on super sale right now. It doesn't help all the negative reviews were with poorly set suspension and the tires they come with (Dunlop Roadsport) are absolute garbage, changing to a 190/55 in the rear will fix the cornering issues most have.

As one of your European viewers, i would just like to say - thank you for always including a metric conversion. Not all US motorcycle youtubers do that , and somehow if it's not in metric, the brain just dose not register/understand what the numbers mean. So Thank you for thinking of us too:) -A.

Great review as always! I love how in-depth your vids are, as well as showing love to all the bike brands out there, rather than only talking about premium models. I had been riding a 2014 Suzuki GSX1250FA, which I got brand new back in 2014, and had loved the engine (that K5 is a wonderful piece of gear). Excellent mid-range punch, came with 3 hard cases, and a very affordable price. Yes, it was a detuned K5, only 95-100 HP, but 80 Ib-ft of torque, so excellent real-world highway grunt. However, as age caught up with me, I was starting to crave more touring comfort (less knee bend, no forward slope on the saddle, and cruise control). The V-strom 1050 and this S1000-GX were both on my radar (loved your V-Strom 1050 vid too btw). I would have killed for this review about 6-8 months ago. Luckily, I did get the chance to sit on the GX during the most recent motorcycle show where I live last year. The knee bend was a deal breaker, was pretty much the same as on my GSX1250FA. I ended up buying a 2023 V-Strom 1050 last summer, that had sat in the showroom and not moved, getting it for $15,000 CAD, compared to $18,000 MSRP. It was a lateral move in performance, but the ergonomics are significantly more comfortable than either the GSX1250FA or the GX. The v-twin on the V-Strom also has a very endearing character to me. With the money I saved, I could buy the biggest set of Givi Trekker metal cases you can get, as well as a bigger windscreen (Givi Airflow/Kappa Airstream). Would the GX have been more exciting, absolutely! But for what I wanted (more touring/comfort-oriented), the V-Strom was a slam dunk. I hope my shared experience will help others on this channel if they are in a similar situation. Once again, thanks for all your top-notch vids. Keep up the good work, and enjoy the ride!

I don't understand why this bike is so expensive in the USA. Here in the UK it's £14700 without panniers but dealers are discounting and Suzuki are throwing in panniers for free so I paid £14000 for one with panniers and got a good discount on a centre stand and heated grips. I've seen some dealers offering bigger discounts than I got. Additionally here in the UK Suzuki give a seven year warranty on bikes, I'm sure they'd sell loads in the states with a similar package. It's rare we get better prices than the US.

Though the video was about 40 minutes it felt quite brief. I think you could have shown the motorcycle itself more. Also most european journalists were not happy with the stock tires the bike comes with. Others reported after changing those the feel and handling of the bike changed substantially. To me it felt like you weren't too excited for the bike and it shows. You tried to deliver your usual high standard review but nothing compensates real intrinsical interest and excitement for a bike. Otherwise the presentation and cinematography was - as always - spot on.

Rode a GX at local dealer demo day. Overall seemed tight and well built. Was actually disappointed it didn’t have more low end grunt. On guided demo ride couldn’t really spool it up past 6-7000 rpm and didn’t seem to pull any harder than my 2015 Versys 1000 up to that point. Certain the top end would’ve hit harder. Tightish legroom as expected. Was a hot 90°F and my shins were plenty toasty, a bit hotter than my V1K. Also a little less wind protection on the GX. More of a sit up on the bike than in the bike feel.

Wow... That headlight footage was scary. I'm hoping its not as bad in person as it looked on film. I've been looking really hard at the 800 standard edition, as its just ADV enough to suit my limited needs, but if it has the same gaps in light coverage at night as this... Thats a deal killer. Of all the competitors to this bike you listed though... I'd still buy this one. It looks good, sounds good, and has that sport tourer appeal that i find really hits the spot right now. I'd just have to be home/at the hotel before dusk. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for branching out into other moto categories.

Well done sir. You especially got the V-Strom 1050 comments correct. Not as much fun for a couple hours. However, as the GX fun factor wanes, the V-STROM comfort waxes. IMO the V-STROM wins all day long given the cost of the GX. No bracket and top box in the Suzuki accessories for the GX? Did Suzuki not spec the bike to handle a top box?

ECU flash really wakes these motors up and removes the low rpm throttle restrictions. The TC system is dumb for sure when I had my GT I always rode with TC1 and throttle in A mode (post ecu flash from 2wdw). Replace the tires, especially the rear with a 190/55 and the handling will improve greatly. I installed knight design GSXS1000 pegs on my GT for a little more legroom, that was my biggest issue with the GT is the riding position felt worse than an actual supersport and was screwing with my knee/hips on long rides. Supposedly the premium seat is a little taller too so that will also help with legroom. This bike seems like it might essentially fix the issues I had with the GT with a few mods. The brakes definitely felt spongy and required a lot more initial pull than i'd like overtime. I got rid of my GT unfortunately after putting 7k miles on it due to it not feeling like the right bike for my riding and the comfort issues, the GX seems like it might be a better fit. I've never had electronic suspension and I'm a heavy guy so that's my big worry about this bike, it would take a lot of time fine tuning it for sure.

Your reviews are the best, period. I love some 4 cylinder engines, they all are not inherently peaky...for example Bandit 1200/1250 especially the 1250 peak torque at 4150 rpm's pulls better than just about any twin or triple right out of the gate. Then there's the busa 4 cyl., wish they would use that in a similar application to the GX but give it some legroom. Thanks!

Comment on your judgment of the headlights: if you had rear preload at “2 riders” but didn’t re-adjust the headlights, they were probably angled lower than Suzuki engineers would suggest. Angling a bit higher could slightly improve their usefulness.

Ian, I think the 50 series rear tire is always a bad choice by OE. Suzuki is notorious for this. A 190/55 will transform the handling and reduce the need to jack the rear up so much. OE fleet bikes also are notorious for having not had their brakes bedded in properly. I think this would be a pretty good platform, but the price point is off the mark at that level. They clearly should sort the lighting, etc. Keep up the good work!

We have them here in europe and although it is a Honda, so it is reliable, it is a typical ( a bit boring) parrallel twin. it has less grunt, less power and it really is a boring old mans looking bike (coming from an 58y old man ). I have a first gen 2018 BMW s1000xr (the crazy one, before BMW decided to make the gen2 a bit more mainstream) , but I also have a 2016 Triumph Tiger sport 1050 ( the final version that never made it to the states ). I have ridden the GSX S1000GX . It is a good bike, it didn't blow me away. But it feels nimble and light. The BMW is a lot more crazy and engaging, it is a sportsbike hidden in a tourer ( first gen anyway) but I wouldn't call it reliable. The triumph has 126HP but it has the final version of the Speed triples 1050 triple engine and that is a peach. Suspension, way to soft so I had to modify it , but then it became a dream sportstourer. A bit on the heavy site. The NT1100 will never do it for this old man. I would not call that a sportstourer.... A tourer will do

Amazing review Ian!! As always, I enjoyed watching your analysis of a new motorcycle. Here is my take - it is more sporty than a Kawasaki Versys 1000 (1100). But less roomy for taller riders like myself (6ft with 33” inseam). I compare it more close to Yamaha Tracer GT and honestly, Yamaha will be my choice out of these two due to inline 3 engine vs 4. I also tried it. It was fun but also disappointing. It is so close, yet misses the mark. I think the concept is brilliant but the product development and pricing is wrong. It lacks (on purpose) some key confort features for touring. I think they were afraid to cannibalize on the gt or the vstrom and decided not to make it too good. Poor decision because customers will buy other brands.

Great honest review of this bike. Although it sounds pretty good, at this price point of about $20k it is within the universe of the BMW R1250RT. I'm thinking another $3-5 K and you can get the RT, which I find is the best all around bike for touring and canyon carving. One big point is no 4 cylinder buzz. Seems like an on going theme with Suzuki. On one hand it's brilliant. But then on the other hand you can't help but scratch your head on things they miss. For instance... Steel braided brake lines is a must. To put top level braking hardware on, only to mate it to soft rubber lines. I understand cost savings, but that makes zero sense.

Triumph has a extra pack for their bobber that will move the foot pegs forward like a true cruiser if you need it. Why is it the only manufacturer that does that? Making the bike fit a wider range of people would increase sales. If this bike is so cramped and I’m ok with it I might aswell go with the sport model instead.

The $1M question to me is this "crossover" segment redundant because adventure bikes, like the R1300GS, have come so far.
