Hi thanks for the review. I'm UK based so ditching the tail bit is a NO and the police will actually do you (prosecute) for this because the law states the tail bit must extend beyond the rear tyre. Most of them are jobs worth's ! I pondered the Suzuki and the Honda Hornet but Suzuki was my first bike, aged 16, now reverse the numbers now 61 and potentially my last ? Also sat on 6 penalty points (12 is a ban) As a multi drop driver (Van) I need something that is still fun to ride but will retain my driving license and my livelihood. Enjoy riding it and hopefully I will 😃

The GSX8S was my first choice for a new motorcycle after selling my GSXS1000F, but I picked up a used '22 XSR900 with 500 miles on it for cheaper than a new 8S, so I went with my first-ever Yamaha. I did do a demo ride on an 8S and do much prefer the engine and sound to my XSR. The XSR's exhaust is very unusual because it points towards the ground from both sides of the bike and makes a lumpy reverberation when you're leaned over and on the gas. The 8S is a great bike for not just its price point but for any price point. There were two at my last trackday, I think they were completely stock including the exhaust and tail but they might also had switched out their rear shock (like me). Anyway, they were both slightly faster than me on the faster turns, and MUCH faster than the bikes that didn't have traction control. I think we were all in the 110-120 mph range at the end of the two straights so yeah, kinda slow but that's never a bad thing on a trackday. Outside of an Ohlins or Nitron shock, I wouldn't touch a thing on that bike. It absolutely rips around a racetrack yet is extremely civil and docile around town. The electronics are a big deal on the slower corners. Maybe, at most, a reflash with the stock exhaust; that's suppose to be an easy 15 hp. I still might pick one up; they seem to sell used for quite cheap as most riders seem to be somewhat dissatisfied with them.

So honestly the other bikes i was looking at was the xsr900 and the z900 but I ruled out the yamaha because it looked too much like my cb. I felt like i didn't need 2 neo Cafe bikes in the garage lol and the mto9 is just ugly imo. All in all though I got a great steal on this bike and offered the guy 6k for it. 2023 with 4700 miles. I didn't think it was a bad deal at

A slipper clutch is not for leaving a stop, it is to keep the rear wheel from locking up when you downshift aggressively and slips under compress braking from the engine.

it's my first bike and i love it. feels very smooth. suzuki's assist tech is really good. i stalled it only a handful of times. other bikes i'd probably stall it way more. my least favorite thing about this bike is the exhaust. i don't need to be so loud to annoy my whole neighborhood, but give me something! thinking about getting an arrow, but it's so expensive. full system is about 1600 euros. and i don't know how to install a full system, so labor cost will probably add another 200-400.. 2000 euros because the stock sounds lame :(

This is a great first bike man. Keep that traction control on and throw it in rider mode c and it's like you are riding a 400

Congratulations on getting the 8S. It's a great bike! Personally, those NRG rear lights are boring. They look all the same, same angle, same set-up. Get the TST rear integrated tail lights & indicators. Seat gets a bit hard over long distances. Otherwise, enjoy!

I own a r7 and also a 2024 xsr900 , l really like ur bike , have set on the gsx8r , but havn't ridden either variant.😁

I'm in between this bike and the MT09. I've sat on both and the both feel ergonomically awesome. The GSX 8S just looks better imop.

KZbin says that these bikes *really* wake up with an exhaust, airbox mod, and tune…… like a huge amount of power over stock.

You should pull the air box snorkels and prefilter off your bike. Check out the vcyclenut youtube channel where they have a video on this with dyno charts showing a modest HP increase. The bike will still run fine with the stock ecu tune, it's free, and it sounds a lot better + slightly better gas mileage too. The 8S was my second choice too but Honda never brought the Hornet to the US (and the 8R was released after I got my 8S). I actually like the bar layout on the S better than the R anyway and after 3000mi./1 yr. I find it hard to fault anything about the 8S!

I gutted the air box ,did a 520 chain and sprocket conversion, full arrow exhaust and sent the ecu out to be flashed. 😊

btw check out the stickersets for this bike, it made mine look way better. give it a real race look.

@@andypacmanperez i think my reply got deleted because i included links in them, and youtube doesn't like that. i ordered them from the dealer along with the bike and asked them to apply it. the stickerset is quite expensive at 250 euros, probably the same price in dollars, but it really changes the look of it. i don't regret it. i also got the belly pan. i'd say if you can't find it via google, ask your dealer if they know more. it's suzuki's own stickerset, so if it's a suzuki dealer, they probably know how to find and order it. i'd show you what it looks like but i can't, youtube removes anything with URL it seems.

Man I wish I could do a tail tidy on mine. But my country is so anal about modifications, and the fines make it just not worth it.

@@andypacmanperez Portugal. You can have those modifications, louder exhausts, tail tidy, mirrors, etc and maybe the police won't care, but your bike have to go trough inspection every two years and they check for that and fail you for non-certified modifications. Imagine every two years having to reasemble your original tail part for inspection, all the while risking some asshole cop to stop and cite you for ilegal modification and send you to mandatory extra inspection? Its a pain in the butt and for me not worth it.
