50 mph with a 250, not to bad. I love the shifting options on those. Foot shift with high, low or super low. Wish they still did it that way.

@KyletheFryan I was figuring it would struggle to get to 40 but the top speed did impress me for a 250 4x4.

I have a 1999 Quadrunner 250 4x4 like this one. They are workhorses! I loaded the front and rear racks with fresh cut logs, ratchet strapped them down and hauled them out of the woods in 4x4 super-low. Probably over a half-ton of logs plus me on it and it hauled me right out over some very rough rocky terrain. They are not "comfort quads". They are manual shift which is sometimes hard to notch into gear, the suspension is rough with very little travel even when adjusted properly and tire pressure at 2.5lbs. I put a brand new stock rear exhaust and gasket on mine (they have a tendency to rust) and it is still relatively loud at high speeds. What I do like is that mine starts every time and just runs great after all these years (23 years). I would trust this quad in the deep woods of the Hatfield-McCoy trails of West Virginia even though the ride will beat you up. These quads do everything a good 4x4 work quad should be able to do, just not in comfort.

So surprising that little 250 had not only 4X4, but diff lock as well. Also the variable range transmission and the IRS. For 1997 those features all combined were practically unheard of. I specifically hunted down a '97 Kodiak for the H/L range and semi manual trans, had no idea those old Quadrunners were that advanced for their time.
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@FlawleZ31 Yes they were very advanced for there time. This little 250 actually surprised me with how fast it was also. I’ve never owned a Yamaha with the 5 speed and high and low range. I’ve had big bears but the ones I had didn’t have the sub transmission.

Very common on the old QR250/KQ300, spitting and sputtering unless your turn the lights on. Voltage regulator has a tendency to go bad and overcharge the battery causing weird ignition problems. hope this helps out!

I literally grew up 1 block behind a big power sports dealer so I was stuck with the wheelin addition. I remember checking these machines out brand New and no one could believe the capability back then lol Then "Bombardier" came out with their extremely strange 650 machine with a step through design. Yamahas big Bear 350 was out. Honda fortrax 300 and Foreman 400 Polaris had their sportsman which changed the game McPherson strut front end independent rear auto 4*4 Arctic cats Bearcat 454 4x4 Kawasaki prairie and bayou 300 4x4 Then mid 2000's Yamaha, Arctic Cat, Suzuki, Polaris and renamed Can Am started fighting real hard with some mind bending machines with almost limitless capability. Arctic cat and Can am soon became the best world leaders, Arctic Cat was the biggest most capable extremely rugged all steel machines with biggest wrap around protective racks tied into front & rear bumpers with the most suspension most clearance with the most HP and torque with the first 1000!!!! Can Am always did good making lighter weight sporty machines but they were never as tough or as long lasting

@John Serrano It is an addiction for sure! I had one of those bombardier traxter with the step through design.. that thing had a lot of issues with the electric shift.. Actually I’m pretty sure I’ve had at least one of all of those machines you mentioned. My least favorite was the bayou 300, The prairie on the other hand is a different story!
@johnserrano9689
@johnserrano9689 Жыл бұрын
@@rockspowersports couldn't agree more...did have a bayou 220 when I was young, put a set of TSL Boggers on the ole girl and she was a blast tho very limited. My 05' Arctic Cat 500 manual was my favorite machine, tied with the 08' thundercat 1000 I still have to this day both are my favorite lol The 500 I slapped a tall moose suicide shifter on her, built the engine to the point of not running hot for all the trail crawling, snorkeled her aswell. The 1000 is stupid powerful that only new can am-polaris can keep up with, but neither are as durable leaving the Arctic Cat still going. Also the big Cat engine was way overbuilt making it physically heavy, but she's built for raw torque and it shows. I bought her with a new set of camoplast tatou4s tracks which goes without say was I indescribably awesome but I found out illegal on the trails after the last Sunday of November!!! Haha so I've sold them since. The real "all American" Arctic Cat seems to be DEAD! the city boys in charge over there at Textron clearly don't have a fckn clue what they're doing and only concerned with their profits.....I know I sound like a btch but it's legit heartbreaking to see the one time best-world leading company stripped for everything they're worth. Now they make all plastic very limited machines short of the last machine the true Arctic Cat designed and built in the wildcat XX.....
@rockspowersports
@rockspowersports Жыл бұрын
@@johnserrano9689 Yeah I hear you on the Cat’s I still have a Arctic cat bearcat 454 and that thing is a tank! I’ve had the 1000 and it was crazy power.. I was at an event a few years ago and they had the Wildcat xx To demo and man that 3 cylinder motor sure is a screamer, it also rode amazing.. nowadays cats biggest wheeler is a 600, for most a 600 is good but they should have some more options in my opinion.
@johnserrano9689
@johnserrano9689 Жыл бұрын
@@rockspowersports yeah I can only hope so. Their real strength per-say was the utility machine's. Obviously as you're well aware then came the wildcat which made them one of if not the top dog in the sport machines too, but the point is they were able to out crawl anything else dam near anywhere. They were always very heavy but that's because of the sheer size of them and the way they were built was monster style. Then in 08' the racks grew smaller and they "ride in feel & setup" used in the 1000. I stole the super heavy an big racks off my 05' 500 and bolted them on to my 1000 because I needed the complete protection they offer. With the tracks on I had 19" of clearance with suspension compressed from all weight, with only 27" Interco's I run at 13 1/2" with springs right in rear and 2nd to lowest front to keep those fronts biting hard Sadly I have lost all hope in Textron fulfilling any of their promises to us all. They e taken away almost their entire line up, trashed the 1000 engine entirely which after teething issues (every engine has) we're bulletproof Hopefully next year man they'll release a big Vtwin like our 1000's but pumped up to a 1250 atleast. Sticking to true Arctic Cat it has by far the most torque available, and overall machine is built for work/technical trail crawling like what made them famous. Huge suspension, 16-18" ground clearance, available in 4 seater like Yamaha Rmax 4, super duty and massive everything like wildcat XX. Band most importantly available in a true 6 speed FULLY MANUAL transmission. Much like Yamahas yxz1000 with a separate true transmission/transfer case. Keeping weight between 1850 2000 pounds she'd be the number 1 UTV in the world within a year or 2 man. Also she must come with 31" tires, wheel wells must clear say 35's no issues stock. That machine would raise the bar as Arctic Cat always did, finally bring out all of us former owners/buyers who are so disgusted with city boys running Arctic Cat into the fckn dirt. Most importantly they'd have unlimited publicity around the world. The fully manual 6 speed would be so sought after by all us real men, and the automatic version run the same system only beefed up just like the RMax Those jerk offs who run Arctic Cat would have a massive hit once again and FINALLY with that one machine, bring in untold millions but they need real Men who knows wtf they're doing aswell as intelligent enough to know wtf we actually WANT!! Not a cheap garbage bargain brand from bass pro shops I mean what a fckn embarrassment. The havok was cut far too short, they severely need to go all in on the machine I described
