@Schaaf Жыл бұрын
Indeed they are! I think speed wise I'm just as quick with an ADV as with any other bike. For me it's only the relative lack of feedback due to long suspension travel and seating position that makes riding fast feel a bit, well, adventurous :D

I'm liking the V-Strom 800 Touring we have available in the US. My '22 Africa Twin Base is a great bike, but with my sport bike past, none of these 21 front, long travel bikes provide enough feedback. I can ride it quickly, but I don't enjoy it as much. The 800 Tour has std travel, radial mount brakes, cast wheels with road rubber, and a more sporting rider triangle. With power train performance shown in this video, it will be my sport tourer. Still keeping the AT though!

Get the RE version or SE in some markets. I have just bought one, really wonderfully complete bike just missing the cruise control and a better screen. Screen is an easy fix from Givi or Puig, aftermarket options available now for cruise. Suzuki will sell lots of these, the modern UJM.

First, I'm a big fan of your style of review... I appreciate you cutting through the non-sense, and sparing us from you reciting the spec. sheet. I can look that up myself. Much appreciated! You ride so many different bikes, I tend to give your opinion considerable credibility. I'm currently shopping for a middle-class adventure bike, and I'm torn between two choices... The logical choice is this V-Strom 800DE... The soulful choice is the Moto Guzzi V85TT. You've said some rather flattering things about the V85. I do a fair bit of off-road riding, although no extreme hill climbs on the bigger bikes. I save those for my dual sport. This would be primarily a road tourer, with times where it was asked to do intermediate off-roading... In my region of North America, the V85, and the 800DE are nearly identical in price. As one of the few reviewers who has reviewed both bikes, where do you land? Which would you pick to put in your garage, hypothetically?
@Druezy Жыл бұрын
I've never heard of Moto Guzzi, what an absolutely stunning bike! I honestly can't blame you! I'm still getting my life together before my first motorcycle, but I'm cheering for you!
@X-Ray_Fox Жыл бұрын
I had the V85TT for 2 months and I changed for the 800DE. The Suzuki is more suited to my size (I'm 6.10 ft). The Guzzi is an amazing bike but for me the engine isn't as smooth as the 800DE at low rpm and I wanted a more capable offroad bike. And of course, the reliability of the Suzuki is way better than the V85TT. But if you're interested, you should test ride it. It's still a good bike overall ! 😀
@TheKikosak Жыл бұрын
I couldnt decide between V85TT, Vstrom 800 and Tuareg 660, after long thinking and research i picked tuareg because i wanted more offroad bike, guzzi just looked more like cruiser/touring bike because its heavier and bigger. Suzuki sits somewhere between guzzi and aprilia.
@Schaaf Жыл бұрын
It's hard for me to make comparative statements since my rides with the V85 happened years ago. But still I'm pretty sure one could say that the V-Strom is better in almost every aspect. It's faster, has more capable suspension, has the right geometry for offroading too, and yea, it's very likely to be more reliable. The Guzzi might have the better wind protection and maybe also better brakes. But with these I'm not sure since it's been so long. Still, I'd take the Guzzi. I simply adore the air cooled Guzzi engines. To me personally, character is almost always more important than performance.

I’m thinking of moving up from my 2005 DL650 to the 800 (the RE version as I believe it is known in Europe). I’ve been very happy with the handling and ergonomics of the 650 over the years, but I want a more modern bike with ABS and traction control. At 59 I know my reflexes aren’t as sharp as they once were so I want the added safety and confidence such technology can provide. On the other hand I’m not yet ready to give up on spirited riding on twisty roads, otherwise I’d just start looking for a clean used Gold Wing. Would you recommend the 800 for someone like me?

One thing tuners in the States have found with the 776cc engine in these new Suzuki bikes.... it can recover 10 horsepower and 8-10 ft-lb torque with the usual aftermarket help and ECU flash. So if you wish to compare the Suzuki engine with the Honda Hornet engine, I'd prefer Suzuki from this aspect..... you can get equal power (or more) to the Honda with tuning, but you have an additional 10 ft-lb torque that the Honda will never make.
Sounds like the quickshifter locks the rear tire a little when it downshifts. I hear skids every time you downshift.
@exothermal.sprocket2 ай бұрын
Several things: *Electronic throttle 'blips' engine on downshifts for you, provided you have the feature turned on. *Being hard on the brakes entering a curve, the rear wheel traction is very limited. *The SCAS (Suzuki Clutch Assist System) allows a little decoupling of the rear wheel from the transmission while decelerating (as in downshifts) *The ECU on modern bikes often has a deceleration map, which controls how aggressive the engine braking is (throttle application during deceleration preventing large back-torque). Sometimes this system is adjustable through menus, just depends on the motorcycle model *Rubber compound and temperature can affect any skidding or lack of it, also the road conditions (cold, rough pavement, sand). *Front suspension that lacks compression damping control, or the oil flow is too un-restricted during compression can shift weight forward aggressively under braking, un-weighting the rear wheel causing skids, while simultaneously increasing the rake and trail of the forks and making steering twitchy and unstable

When factory emissions regulations cause motorcycle engines to run lean.... that induces vibration. Lean combustion creates buzz. If a new motorcycle is buzzy at some RPMs, this is why. You can tune better fueling and the vibration will reduce greatly (depending on model, your local regulations, etc).

Hi Schaaf! I will write in English as all the comments here and also your subs are in English. I bought a V-Strom 800 (RE) about 1,5 month ago. I love the comfy suspension, handling and brakes of the bike but as far as gearbox and quickshifter are concerned, I'm not that satisfied. Shifting from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd into 3rd gear is quite clunky and noisy most of the times (I'm speaking of shifting without the QS now). From 1st into 2nd is only quiet and smooth when I shift very soon, bearly reving the engine in 1st gear (also einfach kurz Anfahren und dann den 2. Gang einlegen). The QS works really smooth only from 4th gear upwards and still not all the time. I like to ride smooth and fluently so I don't apply much throttle and tend to upshift beween 4000-5000 rprm. Could this be the reason for not working that smoothly? Am I not giving it the paces enough? For downshifting I use the clutch all the time because that way the downshifts are really smooth. The QS does its job but again the shifts are hard and rough - for my taste. But in your video everything looks and sounds very nice and smooth, not at all harsh, loud or clunky. I also own a Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 and its gearbox is much smoother, especially on upshifts. When I bought the V-Strom 800 I expected it to outshine the SM 650 in that regard but it actually didn't. And I checked the chain slack on the side stand and sitting on the bike as well and it's not to tight.
@Schaaf7 ай бұрын
I'm unfortunately no good with this kind of knowledge, I was never interested in learning how to DIY-work on bikes. Indeed for me the QS was working flawlessly but at the same time I've heard from a colleague of mine that the had exactly the same issues as described from you on the 8R. Seems there is a problem like that. But maybe it can be fixed since it could be electronics related

Ye, he sucks so hard in his job, that just 180k ppl enjoy watching him riding up and down same hill with various bikes... after adapting ur advise, same 180k ppl plus further 180k will carry him up and down same hill praising his greatness, evrika. 😅 👍

I don't really mind the same track, but 30 fps is just ...I can't watch in 30 fps my eyes are adapted to 60 fps and I watch a lot of driving/riding POVs and walking POVs because I don't have time in the day stuck in my job @@ronr6605

Weird, I really didn't like the GSX-8S when I did a test drive on it. Anyway, most people seem to enjoy this new V-Strom.
