Hands down the best version of this song by a mile. I'm a musician. I'm old. I believe I've heard every good song made. This song by this singer is among the best of them. What a crystal clear, beautiful voice.

I owned two of her albums, and she was a favorite. I couldn't hardly wait for her next album release. When it was finally released it was a dual vocal with Chet Atkins. Chet Atkins can't sing at all, he can hardly carry on a conversation, and his guitar playing is a pluck-pluck style that sounds irritating and boring. So I never bought the album, and Suzy Bogguss never again had a hit song after recording with Chet Atkins.

@@mikelawhorn1243 I bought the album. It's called Simpatico and there are some very good songs on it. My favorite is her version of the Johnny Cash song "I Still Miss Someone" which she also did live at The Grand Ole Opry and you can find it here on YT.

Ian was attempting to become a pro rodeo rider when he suffered a serious injury and was told he'd have to give it up, or risk permanent disability if he suffered another such injury. While recuperating, he began playing guitar, singing, and writing songs. I'm guessing that Suzy's version would have peaked somewhere in the Top Ten or Top Five of the Billboard Country Singles chart, rather than at #12, if she'd been closer to the below-21 age the main female character obviously was, while waiting for her 21-year-old man to arrive and take her away from her parents' home, rather than the 36 or so years all country music fans knew her to be. And when he comes to call, father hasn't a word to say.

I even got to spend some time alone with her and Ricky Skaggs as they cleared US Customs (I was working at the Customs desk as a drug dog handler). I met her in person at Michael Martin Murphy's West Fest in Red River, New Mexico sometime in the early 90's. She was shopping for a leather jacket with fringe. She was very sweet and gracious. She said she was sorry she had to start one of her songs over again, that she was nervous without her band. I told her don't worry about it, that turned out to be the best song you did. What a great performer but an even better person.

Most underrated singer ever. Suzy was blessed with a clear, dynamic voice with a velvety, metallic edge that cuts through big time live when she belts from the diaphragm.. Her voice is LOUD and clear and she'd likely be ok without a microphone in a pinch. She is a very good example of a country singer with a dramatic soprano voice along with perfect pitch. She never sings off key. The edge, vocal weight and operatic power make her unique. There are others who deserve a mention.. Patty Loveless is my girl along with Suzy. Patty is the ultimate female country singer for me. Her plaintive, high lonesome delivery and George Jones influenced inflections are perfection. Can't forget these girls either .. KT Oslin, Matraca Berg, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Kathy Mattea, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Pam Tillis. Tanya Tucker has one of the most unique and earthy, soulful voices ever.

When I was a kid (so many many years ago) I wasn't a country music fan but I fell in love with Suzy Boggus. I would say she was the first singer that got me interested in country music, and now, what is there really not to love...

I have run into Americans from Minnesota who speak in sort of " flat tones" like Canadians . ( The guy who wrote this tune , Ian Tyson , is 85 years old but still alive and kicking . He lives somewhere around Longview , Alberta , Canada which is south of Calgary , Alberta , Canada in the eastern foothills of the Rockies . In the 1960`s and 1970`s he sang with his wife , Sylvia Tyson . They divorced long ago . I heard her a few months ago and even though she has to be in her 70`s she can still sing . )

Eddie Sutphin "Someday Soon" one of the all time greatest songs. Suzy delivers it beautifully, in perfect cowgirl style. I'm surprised she didn't make it bigger. But six Top 10s and nine Top 20s was not bad. "Drive South" her biggest hit at #2.
