I owned two of her albums, and she was a favorite. I couldn't hardly wait for her next album release. When it was finally released it was a dual vocal with Chet Atkins. Chet Atkins can't sing at all, he can hardly carry on a conversation, and his guitar playing is a pluck-pluck style that sounds irritating and boring. So I never bought the album, and Suzy Bogguss never again had a hit song after recording with Chet Atkins.

Ian was attempting to become a pro rodeo rider when he suffered a serious injury and was told he'd have to give it up, or risk permanent disability if he suffered another such injury. While recuperating, he began playing guitar, singing, and writing songs. I'm guessing that Suzy's version would have peaked somewhere in the Top Ten or Top Five of the Billboard Country Singles chart, rather than at #12, if she'd been closer to the below-21 age the main female character obviously was, while waiting for her 21-year-old man to arrive and take her away from her parents' home, rather than the 36 or so years all country music fans knew her to be. And when he comes to call, father hasn't a word to say.

Most underrated singer ever. Suzy was blessed with a clear, dynamic voice with a velvety, metallic edge that cuts through big time live when she belts from the diaphragm.. Her voice is LOUD and clear and she'd likely be ok without a microphone in a pinch. She is a very good example of a country singer with a dramatic soprano voice along with perfect pitch. She never sings off key. The edge, vocal weight and operatic power make her unique. There are others who deserve a mention.. Patty Loveless is my girl along with Suzy. Patty is the ultimate female country singer for me. Her plaintive, high lonesome delivery and George Jones influenced inflections are perfection. Can't forget these girls either .. KT Oslin, Matraca Berg, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Kathy Mattea, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Pam Tillis. Tanya Tucker has one of the most unique and earthy, soulful voices ever.

Suzy, EmmyLou, Patsy Cline, Allison Kraus. Voices so clear and true. Missing in packaged female country singers these days.

I've seen Suzy 4 times in the last 10 years and her voice is just as clear and sharp as it was in the 80's

Good. Should been Suzy's song. Ian (the songwriter) should have waited, like Blue by Leann Rimes

@@garyolafson8303 Well, he did make so much money from this song that he built an addition to his ranch he calls the Suzy Bogguss addition (per her in concert).

Totally agree she is totally underrated! She can sing with the best including Judy Joni or Baez even Rondstat.

Was blessed to see Suzy perform in Granbury, Texas the year before Covid. Such a nice, personable person, as well as a superb performer. Still as lovely as ever.

Oh my goodness, I have loved this song since I heard Judy Collins sing it. Now that I have heard Suzy sing it with that steel guitar, this ole country gal is sticking with Suzy Boggus😻

Eddie Sutphin "Someday Soon" one of the all time greatest songs. Suzy delivers it beautifully, in perfect cowgirl style. I'm surprised she didn't make it bigger. But six Top 10s and nine Top 20s was not bad. "Drive South" her biggest hit at #2.
