Actually, in the Japanese version, Goku is daring and luring Piccolo to go bigger. He said "if you can grow bigger than this, it will be a problem for me". So Piccolo respond by saying "you think this is the biggest I can grow? then watch this" ... and he upsizing himself after Goku dare him. And this is a significant point to show that Goku is "smart", and know what he is doing.

I love your reactions, Suzy! There were a whole lot of facial gems in this episode! But perhaps my favorite was actually your little frown at the carjacking after the crowd's panic began. As usual, nice reasoning on various points! Piccolo is finally Piccolo again! No more calling him 'Junior'. Piccolo almost certainly has lost a lot of speed. He's not moving at superspeed now. But he's a giant who is still moving pretty fast proportionately; which still makes him VERY fast, at least in such a small space. Albeit, the stage's surface area seems to be growing as well! LoL We are seeing Goku struggle more than a bit to be sure.

Giant-Size Piccolo is mostly a bluff technique to intimidate opponents. Piccolo is using psyche strategy to recover from that Super Kamehameha he was hit with. No matter how much stronger Piccolo may seem, he's about an even match to Goku in power.

Something the show neglected is that with Piccolo's increased size, both of Goku's throws would have definitely resulted in at least part of Piccolo's body being out of the ring. Not that Piccolo cares, of course.

One thing I'll give Goku for not attacking - continuing the fight might put the crowd at danger. By waiting and letting Piccolo put the fear of death into the crowd, he's giving them time to disperse before continuing to fight. Piccolo wants to scare them away right now, he doesn't want to kill them - YET - but he wouldn't be opposed to killing them if it would hurt Goku here. Majunior wants news of his coming out as King Piccolo to disperse across the world, and Goku wants the people to be safe. So neither are fighting again until the crowd disperses.

They both have dialogue that hits hard *and* sounds corny and have music that hits hard *and* sounds bland. It almost doesn't matter since there are multiple versions that can be watched and it'll please one faction of the fandom and annoy another faction.
