Svarog Fragmentation (Zveroboy) slug loading.

Moving on in the slug series, Thes rounds will be loaded with 28, 30, and 32 grs of Longshot. I have found that Longshot gives good accuracy and performance so far in my range test. Later we will try some other powders for accuracy and performance as well. However I want to stick with what works for now.

Figured that I would get some of these together and get out to the range. I haven't shot them at a distance more than 50-yards yet and I'm wondering if the tail wad is up to the job.

I think it will do good it being one piece also slug and wad close to same diameter it will do good at 100 yards 👍👍

I hope so, I got good accuracy at short range just goofing around, out to 50 yards offhand, I believe that these posses enough accuracy for the average hunting distances a person would take a shotgun hunting at. One thing, I was rather unimpressed with the pellet slug from Svarog, I feel that it is too close to the Lyman pellet and performs the same way, Maybe further testing with different wads is the key, However that will be down the road.

Even though there’s not much data I also noticed you used Remington straight wall which I have also 3” and I trim them with my test on the Lyman style slug the federal gold medal performed really good the thing is i can’t find 3” federal gold medals so I can use blue dot or other powder just Incase it takes up to much space in the hull shotgun reloading is fun there is so many things to try and make perfect 👍

You should save your money and get one of these slug molds and give it a try for yourself Willie. Jeff on Taofledermaus gave me the idea of trying these molds, I saw the accuracy potential from the Ultra slow motion he does, Unlike other that have specialty firearms (Me included) Jeff takes simple Walmart store-bought guns and runs them through his tests. Gragg, Danny, and Jeff do a great job for the commoner average Joe, and that makes his show so good. He is like me in a lot of ways, He doesn't care about people that prune your Videos and you have perfectionists out there sitting on the edge of their seat,, Just waiting, But, in the end, it is all about them and no job will be done to their satisfaction. Hi Dave now don’t know how much it really matters but I always set my scale on a hard surface. Sometimes digital scales can be finicky, just my thought.

I have done that and there isn't any difference, That was something I did when I first started using an electronic scale, I like my old O-Haus balance beam scale, that one is right on the money every time. However, this little $15 scale is pretty accurate.

Hi Dave, well I am finally putting the Savrog Fragmentation slug together. The Hydrant slug was a breeze to put together with the right components thanks to you and Steve. But this Svarog Frag slug leaves a few questions . So before I go off and order from BPI if you don't mind I would like to ask these following questions. . I noticed they are a little shorter than the wads for the Hydrant slugs, and I noticed you trimmed your hulls down. Is there an advantage to buying a trim doctor and trimming the hulls down for the Savrog Fragmentation slug? Thank you for all your work in this project. It is really very exciting to break free from buying the factory slugs , in both cost and accuracy.

I trimmed the hulls because of the shorter length of the assembled slug/wad combination, Btw, those fragmentation slugs are devastating on impact. I have recovered round from the impact area and was amazed at the expansion. I have a sanding station and trim my hulls on it, it does a good job at it. I haven't fired the frag slug @100 yards yet, However, at 50 they were accurate within an inch. More than adequate for hunting or dispatching pests with one shot. @@Thorsaxe777 Thanks Dave for the info on how accurate and devastating this slug really can be. I got to thinking last night about being penny wise and pound foolish. I have spent money on some quality products such as Nicks clips, Nicks custom seating die and roll crimper, so why skimp on shot gun components ? So I was thinking about going in a totally other direction, and buying some nice 3 inch hulls, using a Waxed Nitro Card between the powder and the wad, then topping the slug off with a nice plastic overshot card. Maybe this combo will work out to 100 yards, or maybe not, but it is worth a try. As you know the Nitro card should give a better gas seal, and I will not have to worry about screw modification . The plastic overshot card is used to see if it improves accuracy at longer ranges like the commerical slugs claim. I think the 3 inch hulls will give just enough room to put it all together and give the whole thing a nice roll crimp. For me it is at least worth a try , and will compare it to standard 2 3/4 inch hulls trimmed down with no Nitro card and a regular overshot card. I will let you know how it turns out. Thank again for the great work done in this area. It blows the doors off the old ways of slug making in both time and money. I never thought there would be a day when our reloading slugs could out perform the manufactured ones. No more $1.50 per round !

How difficult was it to remove the finished slug from the pin while still hot....Any suggestions?

I believe that Steve did, I know that The reloaders Network is handling all of Svarogs products now and the pins should be available through TRN. These molds offer many mold options with the pin assortment available. Bty, I love the Hull Vise, it works beautifully and also the Clips for supporting the compaction zone of the slug wads, the seating die has many uses as well which expands the quality of our loadings.
