Everywhere Delos has been. All the countries it has seen. This is the most memorable episode for me. It really shows how Mother Nature can and will show her might. Brian and Brady handled it with grace and poise.

I think the value of the Amel brand just increased. Brian and Frida's testimony of their confidence in Delos is the best endorsement a manufacturer could ever get. Chantiers Amel S.A. owes this crew a lot more than just buying them a beer.

[Liz] Brady's comment about preferring not to see what the waves were like at daylight RANG SO TRUE!! We had a similar three day experience in the Indian Ocean which tested our mettle as sailors and as a two-person team. Putting your life in the hands of someone else one minute, then being responsible for them the next forges an unbreakable bond. Fantastic episode, and I KNOW it was 10 times worse than the camera showed. Peace and fair winds!

What a ride. This vid particularly, reminds me of my youth days fishing off the West Coast of Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Island, BC, Canada) 30 days out, without touching land on 54' Wooden Freezer Trawler. In those 30 days we hit weather such as this more than once. 30' swells, Buddy boat ahead of us would completely disappear in the trough's, poles and all until we surf up the side of the wave and catch a glimpse of them until we dive down again. Wooohoo....lets ride. Looks like fun to me. Congrats on spectacular vids, informative and educational all rolled into one.

You are so impressive. In an extreme wind condition, you have the most experienced helmsmen on watch, and you have the biggest hole in the boat, the main hatch, closed, as it should be. Your attention to the safety of the boat and the crew is admirable. Keep up the good work (Yeah, I know this is an older video so in fact you kept up the good work, past tense.) You had adventures and you survived. That is proper captaincy and leadership. Best Regards.

yup, pretty knarly. I was in the navy on a destroyer outrunning a hurricane in the Atlantic. I got back a few weeks ago from delivering a Yacht from the UK down to the Canaries. Was my first experience of sailing (and largely inspired by watching SV Delos) and the first night out we hit Force 8 winds gusting upto 42-43 knots. Talk about a rough intro to sailing! But, by the end of the 2 weeks I was helming through gnarly squalls, and kinda enjoying it when it was a bit blowy! Keep up the good work and keep inspiring people!

Gotta say Brits, you've got me curious. How did this challenge come about? You get hired (?) to deliver a yacht worth, what, two, three, four, five hundred thousand pounds, through the Channel and Atlantic, as your first sailing experience? I'm thinking you had an experienced skipper on board and you were a training crew member? Glad you're OK. It's reassuring to read that in short time you were steering like a boss through the big stuff. Thanks for sharing.
@stompalomp2968
@stompalomp2968 8 жыл бұрын
Well, the experienced skipper was a family member, who happens to be a sailing instructor, and was hired to do the delivery. She was allowed to pick her own crew and asked me if I wanted to come as an extra hand. The boat was a 40ft cruiser/racer, so yeah definitely worth a bob or two, but nowhere near as comfortable as Delos! I made sure I had a grasp of the basics (points of sail, names of deck equipment and sails etc.) before going and was able to learn the practical stuff on the job. For the first week I always had someone experienced on watch with me even during the day, and everyone did double watches at night (3 hours on, 4.5 off). Normally I was on with the skipper or mate who managed to impart enough knowledge into my thick skull that after the first week (after Biscay) I was put on solo day watches and allowed to helm at night too. On the final run between Portugal and Canaries we hit a couple of days bad weather with one night in particular sticking out where we were close hauled going into 30-35 knot winds and regular squalls which I helmed through for 3 hours straight (my personal highlight/achievement) hitting speeds of 9-10 knots through the water. In hindsight I'm glad I threw myself in the deep end as in 2 weeks I learned more than I would have on multiple conventional training courses, and had the experience to boot. Cheers.

What an amazing episode! It was like I could feel the power of the storm. What a boat though!!! If I ever sail the world it has got to be on this boat.
