Thanks Sven. I knew this song would be a deep well of turnarounds and chord changes, not to mention your classic substitutions and knowledge of the style. I'm also super impressed with your ability to talk over the changes. It shows just how deep your technique and practice goes. I think I'm going to need a t-shirt that says "I learned rhythm from Sven!" :)

I'm learning this song at the request of my mom, I grew up listening to the old Django recording... but as a bassist from mostly a prog rock/ metal background and the music theory background of high-school choir/ whatever I can dig up on KZbin, it's a lot to wrap my head around! That said, I think this video is probably the most accessible to me with all of the really concise and helpful explanations. Thanks from me and her both!

Left my job a week ago and maybe wouldn't have come across this song to learn otherwise. Serendipity perhaps. Been playing guitar for a long time but really having to work for this one. I am excited to learn all these new chord voicing, like waking up out of a musical slumber. I can't wait to play this for my Dad when I head home soon. He is a huge Grapelli fa and is going to love it! Thank you!

Excellent! All the way through. And the explanation on why to use the cradle grip over the bar chord grip is the best I have heard or read. Thanks.

I started playing classical guitar when I was young. Moving to jazz and learning to use my thumb was one of the most freeing things. From ¹6 onwards, I've used my thumb more often than not; it provides so much versatility

Beautiful. I've been playing passably most of my life. This gave me such a lift to find a genre I'd never tried. My classical guitar too wide necked so I'm off to borrow a steel string. Googling up what on earth that guitar is you're playing... absolutely stunning sound. Hope it's not too expensive ❤❤

Somewhere beyond the sea Somewhere waitin' for me My lover stands on golden sands And watches the ships that go sailin'. Somewhere beyond the sea Somewhere watchin' for me If I could fly like birds on high Then straight to her arms I'd go sailin'. It's far beyond the stars It's near beyond the moon I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon. We'll meet beyond the shore We'll kiss just as before Happy we'll be beyond the sea And never again I'll go sailin'. I know beyond a doubt My heart will lead me there soon We'll meet ... I know we'll meet ... beyond the shore We'll kiss just as before. Happy we'll be beyond the sea And never again I'll go sailin'. No more sailin' ... So long sailin' ... Bye, bye sailin'... Move on out, captain ... So long, ensign ...

Hi Sven, This is a great instructional video for as you said a beautiful tune. There’s a descending chord progression at 1:25 (second A measures 5 and 6). The root note decent appears to be F E D then C. It looks like your playing maybe an F6 then a chord Im not what it is then Dm7 on the 5th fret then back down to a C chord of some sort. Wondered if you share what the second chord is played over the ringing E string..

Hi Sven, You're an excellent teacher, and your videos are treasures for any guitarist interested in Gypsy Jazz ! All your guitars are excellent (I saw an Hofner in an other video which was so beautiful and sounded so well). Thank you again for finding the time to teach less skilled guitarists ! Does you guitar maker have a online site to check his work, I'm curious... Waiting for your latest video ! (maybe one on "My Serenade" one of my favorite's Django tune).
