Thank you again for a great review. I purchased the closed SVS 12 closed and it has great performance but i also had a problem with the pressure in the room to sensitive for a good closed sub I guess, my old Klipsch did not bother me. I think this is do it not creating this kind of power. It is kind of crazy but you are spot on. People really need to listen to what you are saying about this. I was hoping to save some money, I should have listened. So I am going to get the ported now. I also have fibromyalgia (it's great), witch i believe makes you more sensitive overall. So if you are sensitive or have fibromyalgia just get the ported. He is 100% correct.

Wow, really sorry I missed your comment, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one with the sensitivity. Others have also reported it, but it's nice to know it's not super rare. Very sorry to hear you have fibromyalgia. Not something I wish on anyone, makes me oversensitive to everything, even "positive stress" causes flare ups. A really fun day can set me back.

What are your thoughts on dual 4000 in the front and dual 3000 in the back?
@Subwoofer1014 жыл бұрын
I would stick with one subwoofer model, if at all possible. All 3000, or all 4000. Huge deal? No, but ideally the sound waves are identical for constructive interference. The bigger the difference, the less ideal. 10" with a 15"? Not very good, but better than a single. 12" with a 12", but different response curves, designs, port size, etc..? Little better, but still not as good as having all the exact same subwoofers.

Dynamic Headroom is why I love my Fusion 15 speakers so much. They can respond instantly to anything and they never run out of headroom. This is all thanks to the fact that they are 99dB/W sensitivity and can easily handle 300W+ peak power with no issues whatsoever. Of course I never push them remotely close to those insane levels, but the fact that they could handle it makes them sound effortless at low level.

Dual PB-2000 Pro's. Dual matched SVS subs will outperform any single SVS subwoofer, in terms of clean, powerful, and complete bass. You want constructive interference using duals, otherwise there will be no sweet spot. Lots of dead spots that shift within the room with a single. Singles are a frustrating way to go.

I will be checking it out next. My only hesitation would be if you have a noisy floor. Stomp on your floor. If it's concrete, the floor itself will make very little noise. If it's an older mobile home, the whole house might shake. Everything else pretty much falls between those extremes. So if you have a high quality wood subfloor that doesn't make much noise when you stomp on it, down firing is probably not an issue. In my older house, the floor is pretty noisy. But, it seems the heavier the sub, the less of a problem it is.

So I have to ask what is your taken on powered towers as in the Goldenear Triton line? Subs in both towers. Tho with a significant roll off. How would you integrate a separate sub? Would you still do dual separates subs (ported) or would a single sub (sealed) would work better with those towers in tandem???
@Subwoofer1016 жыл бұрын
I'd still run duals, whether ported or sealed. I prefer ported, but it can be a matter of taste. You can see my chart on that: www.subwoofer101.com/ported-vs-sealed/ Haven't spent much time with power towers, but I'd probably still run them as "Small" on the AVR. Seems counterintuitive, but I suspect that would give me what I personally look for. It would be a little more complicated to integrate than a regular tower, but totally doable, I suspect. It depends on what the response profile looks like. If it's really peaky in some areas, that can be an issue, but that's true with any speaker.
@tkcdac6 жыл бұрын
Small tells your speakers to ignore the lower ranges. Why have a powered sub in your towers if you are going to not send it signal? Besides the cabinet is designed with a matched crossover that fits the speaker profile. Subwoofer 101, didn't you say the perfect dream speakers would be 4 X pb16's? Would be a shame to turn off that extra sub in the room. One can find out where they want their subs to agree with the large towers where they pick up exactly where they roll off, or even compliment the pre roll off frequency. Work those crossovers manually until you find the harmony. I'm not an expert by a long shot, but use what you have, and make it work together... unless it is busted!

2 sb-16 ultra vs 1 ported pb-16 ultra, which one would be louder sound wise?

Have u compared these (or pb 16) to the SB versions? I have the SB 16. I wonder how much I’m missing out on...I thought the SB would be more enjoyable for music.
@Subwoofer1016 жыл бұрын
I've plugged the ports and listened in Sealed mode. I actually buck the trend and prefer ported for music as well. With duals, issues with overhang are reduced, and ported SVS subs are tight to begin with. I will say that the SVS 16 and 4000 do a great job of "sounding" more like a deep ported sub, which is a good thing. I still prefer all ports open though. Comfortable on the ears and GOBS of headroom. The SB-16 Ultra sounds great, assuming there is not a massive difference between that and the PB-16 in sealed mode. I think you'd notice a difference with the PB-16 Ultra, but I don't know if you would feel it was worth the trouble. If you have ear sensitivity, then yes, but you may be a sealed guy and miss the SB-16. Everyone has personal preferences. I'd just be sure to do the "Gain Hack" with the SB-16, probably around -6 to -10 on the sub and way low on the AVR subwoofer level.

@tkcdac6 жыл бұрын
I do not think you are being ignored. You gave an impossible question. The crossover is set per your main speakers range. The sub's volume can be different from the AVR. The size of the room can vary, and you may need a higher output to generate the feel you want. There is no written number to set your speakers. It is all highly variable to taste.

I'm a ported subwoofer guy. I have a hard time with sealed subs, they give me ear fatigue. It doesn't happen with everyone, I'm just unlucky that way. Therefore, no sealed subs make the list, which are subs I would buy myself. www.subwoofer101.com/best-subwoofers/ Beyond that, SVS subs usually have a deeper presentation over most subs in general, but I definitely preferred the depth of presentation from their ported line. I preferred the PB-1000's over the SB-2000's. I reviewed the SB-2000's, and there's just more kick under 40 hertz with the ported subs, and I would assume the same to be true for the Sunfires. I imagine you were hoping for a different opinion, but I think something like the PB-4000's would be quite a difference, especially under 30-40 hertz. Even the PB-1000's would probably provide a "deeper sound", despite the sealed extending deeper. You can see the sealed vs ported article on my site to explain it better.

I'm interested in hearing them, but I'm not sure they would end up on "The List". In reading opinions of others vs the usual subs on The List, they don't appear to have the same dramatic output that I'm after, but I'm certainly not opposed to hearing them. I've been wrong before. It would be nice to include smaller subs like that on the list, but deep bass performance is paramount. It's not an easy "No" like so many subwoofers are, but not a yes either without hearing and putting a microphone on them.
@TheStickygoo6 жыл бұрын
Subwoofer 101 the super sub XXL is rated to 10hz and the super sub X to 14hz.
@Subwoofer1016 жыл бұрын
StixBNR32 Factory ratings don't describe the response curve. A 10 hertz factory rated subwoofer can absolutely still "sound" shallow. It's entirely possible that a 19 hertz rated subwoofer could sound deeper than a 10 hertz sub. The PB-1000 sounded deeper than the SB-2000, even though the SB-2000 went down to a solid 11 hertz in room, and the PB-1000 fell off completely at 19 hertz, as rated. Factory ratings are not something I would rely on. I know to stay away from ported subs that have a factory rating above 20 hertz (25 hertz is an easy "no"), but a factory rating does not directly correspond to depth of presentation. I'm fairly confident that a PB-16 Ultra would give a "deeper presentation" than the 10 hertz rated Golden Ear. The PB-16 Ultra has a higher factory rating, yet I don't see many people suggesting that the Golden Ear is more impressive. I could be wrong, of course, and I'm not opposed to hearing the Golden Ears. As I said, I'd love to have a smaller sub I could recommend. I'll look into it more.

The Bic wouldn't make the list, too shallow. www.subwoofer101.com/best-subwoofers/ Sadly, I can't find a sub under $500 that I can really get behind. Nothing under that range "honestly" hit's 20 hertz. Getting some some really cheap duals would be my choice if I were strapped for cash. maybe something like 2 of these until you can get 2 really good subs: amzn.to/2Jxg6MP I'm not saying it will sound amazing, I'm saying it would fill in the bass duties while you save up. I wouldn't spend $300 on a single sub, or worse yet $600 for dual shallow subs. That's too close to $950 for great subs. Couple of $89 subs make more sense to me while I saved up. Watch for the SVS Black Friday sale. Last year they had the PB12-NSD for $499. Smoking deal, 2 of those and you'd be smiling big. Definitely no punches to the face though. I get your thesis that duals and better than a single. I think we can all agree to that. But it's not the solution under all circumstances. I've been auditioning the PB16-Ultra in my house for the last 40 days and it's scheduled to go back next week since I don't quite have budget for it now (job transition period) but I have the time to fool with tinkering. I have a larger room than you do (about 4300 cu ft) but with a taller ceiling (12 ft) lot of stuff in it (my office desk and chair and a treadmill). So there isn't as much room for a large box sub without doing radical changes. I began with the PB16 in the front of the room like the PB4000s in the video but the box is so massive than it just didn't make any sense, especially with my wife. I ended up moving it to the right side of the main couch pointed right behind the listener horizontal to the real wall (nearfield). This works better (near center of the room) and looks better. Nulls don't seem to be a measured problem. But I would agree that you can certainly tell where the bass is coming from since there is only one sub in the room. Two smaller PB4000s in the front of the room may be less obnoxious in terms of dimensions than the PB16 was but I'll have to do measurements. The PC-4000 is another possibility to solve the dimensions problem (but I'd still need to move some things to accommodate duals).
@Subwoofer1016 жыл бұрын
Dual PC 4000 might be the answer for you. It's funny because my measurements with a single suggest that I'm getting better response than what I'm actually hearing. My hearing doesn't match up to a graph on a single as well as it does with duals. Like I said, weird and hard to explain. The PB-4000 isn't that much smaller than the PB-16 Ultra, they are both substantial. The PC 4000 is quite tall, so it would be a good idea to get a measuring tape out to get an idea of how tall they are. Great bass takes up real estate.
@Sevenfeet06 жыл бұрын
You're right about the PB-4000 dimensions. It's nearly as deep as the PB16-Ultra which means it wouldn't be much different in the front of my theater. The PC-2000 is a possibility but it doesn't go as deep as the boxed subs. They are also bigger than they seem. I helped a friend by a PC-2000 last year and it turned out to be bigger than I thought. It's a nice sub and it's quite suitable for him. But the PB16 goes deeper and its hard not to want that kind of performance going forward. I was thinking about the SB4000 for my 2 channel room until I realized that the newer SVS subs no longer have high-pass filters for systems without bass management. If I want one from SVS, it has to be the SB2000 or find an SB13 as they are now discontinued.

I'd rather have a JTR Captivator 1400 or Rythmik FV18 over a PB4000 any day of the week. @Subwoofer1016 жыл бұрын
If you're listening at the peak values, you'll damage your hearing. I really don't recommend it. You get about a 6 db increase in SPL with duals, so that helps. Plus, you have room gain. Dual PB-1000's were capable of hurting my ears, took 2 weeks to recover from testing them at very high levels by mistake, so increased loudness isn't something that would be a motivating factor for ME to upgrade. That said, increased peak loudness "typically" coincides with potency, but not always. The PB-4000's are amazing, but if they put a 112db cap on their output (like a rev limiter, with no impact below that output level - nobody would actually do this), the experience wouldn't be impacted at all for most people. It would still be just as Potent and powerful up to that limit. Again, nobody would actually do this since people pay so much attention to Max SPL. Few people listen that loud, but for the few that do, it's more important. I rarely get over 90 db in room, and with "flat" bass, that's louder than you might think. I don't get over 90 db with a new listener, it's too overpowering. Over 95-105 db with dual PB-4000's and you can literally run into structural issues with your home. They'll certainly go higher than that, but most people would find it too uncomfortable. What I'm trying to say is getting duals sooner would probably be more satisfying. Dual PB-12 Plus should scratch your itch nicely, but so long as duals are the goal, you're on the right path.

Everything costs money, including finish, warranty length, etc... They all offer unique values. All have a reputation for high performance, with slightly different approaches in the details. I don't know which subs would end up on my list and which wouldn't make the cut. I'll add subs as I hear them, unless I know exactly what I can expect. To make the list, it has to be a subwoofer that I would spend my own money on. What I have learned is that raw power, cone surface area, and Max SPL are not everything. That's the "bench racing" I was talking about.

Jesus! Is this a sales pitch to sell Two subs or a PB4000 review? The person who is looking for something called pb4000 chances are he/she already knows all that gibberish. Arghh NVM!

Based on the number of people who own high quality single subwoofers, I think it's a very helpful point to make. Even as much as I talk about it, I still get 1vs2 questions a LOT.

This is not a review . You know what your problem is and why I won't subscribe. You think your room looks nice with those two ugly boxes in front of it ? . Listen not everyone can place two big boxes in a 17 x 20 room Stop recommending the unrealistic. Most ppl can barely fit an sb 1000 because of the WAF. and the logic that your living room is not an AMC theater. Get real dude. You have good knowledge but apply it to an audience that is looking at things in a different perspective. Or if I was a guy that had an exclusive home theater room that measured 20x30 then I would buy 6 pb 16 ultra or 4 PSA 3600 I something stupid like that . All you care is what you like awful review. Actually not a review just opinions that don't matter

So what you're saying is that you're bent out of shape because you can't have big subs, and as a result, I should change MY entire direction around YOUR restrictions. Makes total sense. (Sarcasm) I know not everyone will be able to have such a setup, my content is for those who can, or plan to some day. Quality bass requires some space. It takes up a little more room, just like a decent TV does, but the sound is absolutely worth it. My wife wouldn't have it any other way, she LOVES the setup. I'm lucky that way, but she was pretty hesitant at first because of the size. Now she finds heavy hitting West Coast rap for me all of the time. Amazing what great bass can do. Changes hearts and minds. For sure, my setup is nothing like an AMC theater, it SMOKES an AMC theater. The bass is far better. Not even close. AMC bass is super shallow. I'm not going to start recommending tiny subs that can't deliver the realism that I built my channel around, get real dude.

Good one . I did not know that was sarcastic thanks for pointing out. Second you could have whatever crap set up you want . You could think in your tiny brain that your reviews are objective but all you do is is come up with outrageous claims about as to why ppl should have 2 or more subs. Listen buddy you talk out of your ass . I can afford any set up if I wanted to but like I said most ppl don't get dual because there is no space whether is a house in the getho or a condo in Brickell one In The heart of Miami. The restriction many times is space and the WAF. The fact that you and your wife have no taste does not make it a recommendation . And also where is the review about the PB 4000 all you did was read a whole bunch of bolony about how 2 is better than one . Like you do in every video. You are obviously ignorant when it comes to selling ppl a concept. You would have a bigger audience if you actually listen . Maybe lower the volume on those 2 ugly boxes and maybe you can start making some real money in You Tube.

So you want me to lie so I can make more money on KZbin, that's a new one for me. I have practical experience, going back and forth between single and duals. I have measurements that back up my point, which isn't unique It's pretty hard to find an AVR with a single subwoofer output these days. There are countless articles on why duals are better. I have experience, you're just guessing.

@@Subwoofer101 listen dude I had dual sb13 and because of decorative issues I gave one up . Screw the dead spots . I did not say for you to lie . Just if you are going to review a sub review a sub . Did you read the other comments? Obviously you did not like my reply because it hit you where it hurts the most . Whatever keep up the bad work
