I just have to say for anyone looking to buy a pair of SVS Prime bookshelf you could not go wrong. I have owned my SVS PC2000 Pro's and Prime bookshelf along with center channel. Their customer service is above and beyond what you could expect. I had an accident where my Black Lab Bruno knocked the prime off the shelf damaging the woofer. I reached out to SVS to ask about buying a replacement unit. To my surprise they were amazing and shipped out a replacement woofer at no charge. I am speechless and am a customer for life. Very impressed with their customer service.

Your intro is the most comfortable intro I know... coffee... mmm... warm room..... talk about speakers.... cheesy wonderful teal green 70's intro screen.... Perfect! Only thing I would add is a little bit of your final statement cutoff and an intentional bad editing fade to the title screen like Dr. Steve Brule! I’m buying a pair of these primarily to watch movies. They’re gonna be paired with an svs subwoofer too. Question is: how necessary would be the prime center with these, given the fact that they have an amazing center image? Can i get away with settling for phantom center? Because that prime center speaker is massive and opposite to other brands, it’s much bigger than the left and right speakers!

The tweeter does have a diffuser ring behind the protective mesh screen. Which may be why it sounds good. An interesting study was done a long while ago, and they found that we humans like what they called a Harman curve - a boost in the bass, and a slight drop in the treble. I think the amount of these slopes is a matter of taste. Flat between about 200Hz and 1kHz is good - and for me with a full range speaker, I like about 0.7dB boost per octave below 200Hz, and a 0.5dB per octave rolloff above 1kHz. So, about 2dB boost at 20Hz - if your speaker goes that low - almost no music has very much below 30Hz. Pipe organs and big drums and synthesizers can get down there. And a total of 3dB drop at 20kHz makes for a neutral *sounding* speaker, in many people's opinion. The Harman in this case, is the same guy in Harman Kardon audio company.

Randy, okay it looks like they changed the waveguide on these things. Instead of it matching the case, it is now kind of a dull metal finish which, I suppose, is intended to mimic the polished waveguide of the ultras but instead looks like an old washer that was lying around in your basement for years. Either a very poor aesthetic choice, or a very smart marketing decision two ugly up the Primes so we will buy the Ultras instead. Just curious when you bought yours. If I could find these with the cabinet matching waveguides, I would get it. The new ones just like butt ugly.

Randy so are they $400 a prir or each? Your description says 2 things lack of defraction, obviously the cabinet edges and the driver placement and their cab set in terms of distance between drivers and voice coil alignment. The two factors affect several aspects virtual off axis and on axis. Also FYI GR-Research tests any speaker sent in for free. He then if its worth it or if design permits does an analysis of the crossover and if its, worth fixing and how much.

@cheapaudioman Please correct me if I am wrong: starter/budget Sony SSCS5, Got a good job and maybe a side hustle Emotiva B1+, Hit some bucks on the lottery or sold the wife's car SVS Prime Bookshelf. Or, is the Sony speakers really all that is needed for a good sound system? I wonder what audio source would make the Sonys sound as good as a high dollar system. Maybe, there is no such thing as a cheap quality system. Is it all just mindset? Why does audio seem to matter so much to us. We buy a TV and don't think much more about it for years or until it fails. Sorry for the ramble. Please have a great day Randy and everyone.

With a sub and proper integration I think that the Sony can and will sound incredible. Already sounds incredible with proper placement without a sub. a neutral to lush amp will pair very well with the Sony's. Proper toe in will also help a lot with the sony. If one uses LOTS by Ron at NRD, a properly integrated sub, and a properly mated amplifier, the Sony system will probably destroy other things twice as expensive. With all that said if one does the same thing with higher end components will do something similar and it will be better.

@@cheapaudioman Thanks much. More Sonys when on sale price it is. Surely, The W.A.F. will be a hard sell when I mount a pair to the ceiling for ATMOS with my "new to me" receiver. A million thanks again Sir.

@@welderfixer one thing I forgot to include was the measurement mic. Very good for the room setup. I think any 3.5mm mic will work for the in room cal. I've got one here I can send you if you don't have access to one.

I started my system with the Sony Core Series, except for the sub (I have an SVS sub). Then bought a pair of JBL Studio 530s in what I thought was their Black Friday sale. Turns out they go on sale all the time, and I wasn’t nearly as impressed with them as I thought I’d be. Now trying to decide what to replace them with, but kinda wishing I had just kept the Sony Cores instead.

@@911jason I have the Sonys on my front three right now and I do like them. In fact they surprise me often with their quality of output and it's hard for me to consider replacing them. I had Polk TSi-100 right and left plus the CS-100 center up front before the Sonys. The Polks sounded dull and a bit lifeless, but were far better than my 30 year old Realistic speakers. I sure would like to A-B the Sonys, Emotiva B1+ and these SVS speakers. It would be great if I could talk Randy into doing that for a video.

We here feel audio shouldnt cost as much as an alimony. Monthly. payment. Where she took your stereo system in the settlement. she doesnt even listen to music. You paid for it once. And now youre paying for it again. monthly. Yearly. To her. It shouldnt cost that much.
