Their customer service is above and beyond what you could expect. I had an accident where my Black Lab Bruno knocked the prime off the shelf damaging the woofer. The tweeter does have a diffuser ring behind the protective mesh screen. Which may be why it sounds good. An interesting study was done a long while ago, and they found that we humans like what they called a Harman curve - a boost in the bass, and a slight drop in the treble. I think the amount of these slopes is a matter of taste. Flat between about 200Hz and 1kHz is good - and for me with a full range speaker, I like about 0.7dB boost per octave below 200Hz, and a 0.5dB per octave rolloff above 1kHz. So, about 2dB boost at 20Hz - if your speaker goes that low - almost no music has very much below 30Hz. Pipe organs and big drums and synthesizers can get down there. And a total of 3dB drop at 20kHz makes for a neutral *sounding* speaker, in many people's opinion. The Harman in this case, is the same guy in Harman Kardon audio company.

@cheapaudioman Please correct me if I am wrong: starter/budget Sony SSCS5, Got a good job and maybe a side hustle Emotiva B1+, Hit some bucks on the lottery or sold the wife's car SVS Prime Bookshelf. Or, is the Sony speakers really all that is needed for a good sound system? I wonder what audio source would make the Sonys sound as good as a high dollar system. Maybe, there is no such thing as a cheap quality system. Is it all just mindset? Why does audio seem to matter so much to us. @cheapaudioman3 жыл бұрын
With a sub and proper integration I think that the Sony can and will sound incredible. Already sounds incredible with proper placement without a sub. a neutral to lush amp will pair very well with the Sony's. Proper toe in will also help a lot with the sony. If one uses LOTS by Ron at NRD, a properly integrated sub, and a properly mated amplifier, the Sony system will probably destroy other things twice as expensive. With all that said if one does the same thing with higher end components will do something similar and it will be better.

@@911jason I have the Sonys on my front three right now and I do like them. In fact they surprise me often with their quality of output and it's hard for me to consider replacing them. I had Polk TSi-100 right and left plus the CS-100 center up front before the Sonys. The Polks sounded dull and a bit lifeless, but were far better than my 30 year old Realistic speakers.
