SW Motech Center Stand on the Africa Twin

Just (within 5 minutes ago) put the same centre stand on my '19 thanks to this video. I had tried unsuccessfully to muscle it on the other day before going down and getting "Brake Spring Pliers Kit" from Harbor Freight. Took longer to get my goggles and gloves on than to slip those pesky springs on. Thanks!

Just picked up Honda genuine center stand for 2018 Adventure sports for $213.56 shipped to my door. Installed it with a big zip tie and pick about the size of a screwdriver. Technique is everything. SW Motec does make nice products though. Good video.

I am very much a fan of functional aftermarket non Honda original parts. If it works just fine then why not ! Did you say it was minus 30 there. How on earth do you ride in that ? It’s about +3 here in the u.k at the moment and I think twice. The free play on your chain looks excessive by the way. Nice vid.

Thanks for the video! I Just finished installing mine. I think I got lucky with the spring install. I used a big slippery oiled screw driver. The springs slide right on. There needs to be instruction on how to hoist the bike onto the stand ... lol.... It took me longer to figure that maneuver out than it did to install the stand... hahahahah.

Just ordered a motea stand for £140 from Germany. I've seen a video of a snap ring being used on the left side of the stand, is that just on the oem stand?

Yes! It's been holding the bike up all winter. It works great, stable, cheaper. No reason to not get it.

I installed the same center stand today - but something is very wrong - I followed the instructions exactly [ I have over 40 years of fixing things like motorcycles and boats ] The stand won't stay up - it droops to the garage floor. Phoning the store tomorrow when they open.

Oh no! The only thing I can imagine causing that is improper installation of that curved metal linkage arm. It should be installed with the hump facing up (like an inverted U). I can take a photo of it but not sure how I could add the photo to a comment.

Hi - my bracket is like an inverted U - the store is calling the distributor and sending my video. Sigh, as long as the stand is hanging down I can't ride the motorcycle so I'll have to remove it and the springs :(

I bought another SW Motech from a different store. It arrived today. Going to the garage now to do battle with the springs :)

One hour of fighting with no special tools - just a long thin screw driver and persistence. It is done and works really nice.

Incorrect information being offered in this video. OEM 08M70-MJP-G51 is $199. Not $500?! My dealer sold me the stand for $152. The SW Motech may work as well as the OE stand but it now costs up to $100-150 more.

Hi mikie758. Thanks for the update. If Honda is finally dropping prices because people are complaining, then mission accomplished, yeah? Not certain what the story is about the OEM center stand having been recalled because of a faulty circlip or something (?) But if a solid OEM can be purchased for $199 (Canadian? AUS?) then likely a good deal. If it is US$199, then about even. Either way, better than the CAD$500 it was selling for a year ago!

@@deficitfinanced8111 You info is correct, I just checked Honda Canada website and the price is $454.09 plus 15% in my case. It is $226 US but once again we get boned in Canada!. I think I will order the SW Motech for $305.

@@kirbybradley8734 One year on and i have no regrets with this stand. Nothing to complain about ..EXCEPT - with the SW Motech hard side cases, it is not easy to access the foot lever on the stand. The side case is in the way. So not sure if the side case or the stand is to blame. I can get the bike on the stand with the cases on, but it is a LOT easier to get the bike up on the stand with the side case removed.

Wow- that is a good price! When you say two springs, you mean two separate springs? Or one spring inside the other (which is what I had)? With one spring nested inside the other you are installing two springs at once.

OK here it is: the OEM price is only 235 USD but the Motech actually works...and costs a little more ..280 and has no recall..?

Wow? - I have not looked at the price of the SW Motech stand in some time. Yeah, just over $300 Canadian. Huh. Well, it works! A full season on my stand so far and no issues. And now it will hold up the bike for the next 3-4 months as winter wraps us in snow. ....sigh... I just waxed up the Africa Twin today for the long winter sleep.

Good point! I guess we don't need to get burned by dealer pricing. Eiither way, a spring tool will definitely help with installation. They aren't expensive. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
