I only use one number in auction bidding. That is 'What is the most I am comfortable to pay for a book?' That number would be based on researching that book. If the bidding goes beyond my number then I just walk away.

I slightly overpaid for an Amazing fantasy 15 and in the end it was worth it to get a dream book grail. Bid to win. No regrets.

Great video. When I bid in auctions, I've done the work to calculate rough fmv and set my bid limit based on that. I wait until near the auction end to bid if it's still below my limit. Live auction auctioneers will play to your emotions to drive up the bidding war. Stay within your limit and walk when it goes over. There's been times I've walked and the winning bid won by $5

I know this one ! Been looking for FF 1966 #52 and was willing to throw down some money. Put in a bid for a copy that I was willing to pay, right away but the last 2 minutes I was distracted and it was gone. I have to say, i really don't care what fair market value is. Its worth, whatever I'm willing to pay for, especially if I am not planning on selling it within 30 years. Great video

The beauty is you don’t know if you actually lost out at that price. That’s the end result. Doesn’t mean that the other guy had his max bid, or what he was willing to go to, way above what it ended at. It only takes two players to make a bid reach the moon.

Might I add not only knowing your number but minus the juice or AKA as auction fees. Your price should also consider what your dump price should reflect in case you want to be out of that artifact while recouping your money with minimal cash loss.

Just prior to the comic boom, Dec 2019 I believe, I tried to go below FMV and bid on a Daredevil 1 CGC 6.5 in the last seconds only to lose by $50. ( 3300 vs my 3251). At the same time a 5.0 was on auction and,while I was careful not to bid too high from FOMO, won it at $100 total over FMV. Could have gotten the 6.5 for $3500 ( FMV at the time) after taxes and shipping. Within a month both books had appreciated significantly. Glad I got the 5.0 ($2600 total) but should not have gotten cute with the 6.5!

I was very fortunate to buy a cap 3 restored but signed by Stan Lee for 4K last year then bought a cap 37 raw 3.0 range for 4.2k about 6 months ago. Last October was bidding on one of my grails, tec31. It went a couple thousand more than I expected but they just don't come up for sale, especially in my price range. Some say I overpaid, others say they would have paid much more but so dang happy I did get it, one of my favorite books in the pc. To me, overpaying on a personal grail that rarely comes to market isn't a bad thing.

Also a good thing to have while keeping track of all this is a spreadsheet for your auction(s). Especially making note that what you pay on Heritage will be a lot more than what you bid with their 20% buyers premium. I have a spreadsheet with my potential max bid and what I will end up paying including taxes and possible shipping for every comic I plan to bid on. It has a running total so I don't find out at the end I've spent my life savings on pre-code horror. And to answer your question, no, I don't want you to create a video with strategies on bidding on auctions because I already have enough competition even in the sub-$1000 crap I buy. 🤣

@jsuperflyc9 ай бұрын
Heritage isn't generous with their grades. If they say raw VG, that's your best case scenario, but I'd expect lower. I've been burned with overgraded lots in the past, but gave them another shot this week. I'm bracing myself over some "G/Vg" lots I won, and hope I don't get burned again.
