Dear Swami Sarvapriyananda Jee - I have a quick question for you. Vairagya (detachment) is a precondition for spiritual enlightenment, according to Vedanta. An enlightened soul like Swami RamaKrishna must have absolute detachment. Yet, he loved Swami Brahmananda like his son. It sounds from your speech that he almost craved for a son like Swami Brahmananda. Could you please help me clear my doubt about how to reconcile these two attributes of Swami RamaKrishna. Bhagavan sri Sri Ramakrishna paramahangsa Dev used to stay in samadhi almost all the time . When his conciousness used to turn at the world he use to stay in emotional bond with his mother .Our Prabhu use to see Narayana into his close sons (devotees) . Rakhal (swami brahmananda) was so simple and loving which used to remind our prabhu of the playmate of Sri Krishna . Now , we have to notice that attachment means physical and mental attachment.when master was looking at him as his child there was no such limitations. No Boundaries of love. Secondly , incarnation's do have vatsalya bhab, matri bhab , pishach (demon) bhab , Jara bhab etc.. here matri bhab and maternal love of our master is glowing. Hari Om Ramakrishna. Listen, brother, we all know Sri Ramakrishna was a self-realized mystic; the word "mystic" may not be an appropriate term to acknowledge the divine mystery Sri Ramkrishna actually was. He was someone, equal to God, or as I say, an embodiment of living Godliness. He had performed immense austerity in his life and turned out to be successful in each and every one of them, be it - devotion to the mother Goddess, or devotion to Hari, the Supreme Being or devotion to the great Shiva, even he was a great Brahmagyani, along with it he practised all the major form of religions available in this world, and reached at the end of each and every austerity he undertook. After nothing much was left to do, he was motivated by the Blissful Mother Goddess to remain among the devotees of God and show them the way to Godliness. Sri Ramakrishna, being a Yogi and being the master of detachment and embodying the true "Sanyasa dharma", found it extremely difficult to live among men who are engrossed in either adulteration or falsehood. He often exclaimed his inability to live among such folk, in the absence of a pure-hearted and truthful devotee. Blissful Mother listened to him, and gave him a "Spiritual Son" called Rakhal, i.e. Swami Brahmananda. Yes, he craved, but not for a son but for a true devotee as a companion, being extremely worrisome for his inability to perform the tasks while living in the company of worldly men. Thus he was blessed with a "son", who was a constant companion to him and thus so he could perform his duties without worrying about others' company.
