That park is were my parents meet in 1954. They are still married and happy. Married on the beach at horse neck in 1957. We had a summer cottage in Swansea my whole life. I am 51. That park was the jewel of my childhood!!! Road the comet at least 1000 times!!

I remember riding this as a kid. My gosh, it was so big and scary then. It looks pretty tame compared to todays mega-coasters, but it was still a great time. I really miss all of the family owned amusement parks as a kid.

The Comet Jr was my favorite ride. I rode it every chance I got. My parents took me to Lincoln Park in the early 1960s. What fun!

Wow, Lincoln Park. I remember going there every August back in the 70's and I rode the Comet coaster many times. That coaster was awesome! I also remember riding the Comet Jr., which had three good little dips towards the end of the ride.

I rode the Comet as a kid in the 60's and 70's. Grandparents from New Bedford me and brothers. Loved the old sooky ride and walk through fun house as well. Now, Jan., 7, 2020, the world is different.

Thank you for posting this. This was my coaster and although I will never ride it again it was nice to take a virtual ride for old times sake. And I can tell you it brought me to tears. Me and my best bud would go to Lincoln Park every Sunday and we never rode it less than 10 times in a row- last car-fastest on the downhills. All gone :(

The hill lift collapsed during the blizzard. I haven't seen it in a while, but it is really sad that no amount of TLC can bring it back. :( My father rode it, my grand father rode it, and I think my great grand father may have rode it. Too bad I was never given the chance... Maybe a theme park with lots of money can remake it (and the ride vehicles, as well).

It's a world all gone. Like downtowns before malls, or majestic movie palaces with 90 foot wide screens. But more than anything, I miss the polite civility of those days. I'm sorry you didn't get to see it.

Lincoln Park was the first amusement park I can remember ever visiting. My parents weren't big on amusement parks so I couldn't really go to one regularly until I got my driver's license. I did manage to go several times after getting my license before they shut down forever. Very sad, we don't have a good amusement park in the area. You have to drive 2 hours in any direction to get to one from where I live

Oh lord, seeing this brought back so many memories! Not all good, lol. I rode that coaster in its final years, and every ride was touched with the thought that it might be the last ride you take. It was insane, but we did it. In the film I could almost feel the Gs pulling as the Comet struggled to stop slipping around the corners...and the damn sign, the final warning sign where we all said a silent hail mary, catholic or not... for good measure. Oh man...

Yup, most seaside old fashioned amusement parks have been demolished and condos put up in their place. Same thing happened in San Francisco to Whitney's Playland at the Beach. Torn down in 1972 for ugly condos right across from the Pacific ocean

Hoping more money would fix the problem, Lincoln Park’s owners invested $75,000 in the park, but just as construction completed, the Comet’s brake’s failed, the coaster’s cars jackknifed and the last car detached, finally screeching to a halt hanging precariously off the tracks. Not shockingly, that was The Comet’s final ride.

Sadly, the Comet was torn down earlier today, July 11, 2012. The worst part being that it was the work of a real estate company clearing ground for residences.

"Ticket Riders Stay In Car For Repeat Ride!" No hand-stamp for us! Me and my buddy would buy a cpl of books of tickets and ride 25 or more times in a row. Because the book was the same color as the tickets we'd tear the book into ticket size pieces and sneak them in. Must have ridden that coaster 1000 times between 1973-1987 But never once did we refer to it as the "Comet" It was called simply "COASTER" Never heard of it called the Comet until LP closed. Maybe in 1940 but not in my time. All gone now. Ugly tacky houses now occupy hallowed ground.

I had a chance to see what was left of the Comet prior to it's demolition. Sadly, by that time, the lift hill collapsed along with the far turn. Part of the station's roof was collapsed too. For a long time, prior to the state when I saw it, I was trying to get the coaster saved. Why? Well, what many do not know is that the coaster's designer was the very same person that designed the famous Coney Island Cyclone, Vernon Keenan. In fact, if you look at the layout of the Comet closely, you can see that it has the Cyclone's pedigree. There was a glimmer of hope for a while when a small park called Little Amerika wanted to move the coaster. They ended up taking the trains, but deemed the cost to move the coaster would be too much. Sadly, there is nothing left now as what remained standing of the coaster, was torn down in 2012.
