Okay I'm back. There were TWO of our discs in this video, you guys outdid yourselves. 12:33 I can confirm that the BlowFly floats about it and also that YOU are wrong about it. I used to think it was gimmicky, but that was before I actually played with it for a round (funny how actually using a disc can affect your opinion of it, give this a try!) In summary: Thanks for including our discs and liking our stock stamps, screw you for dishonoring Ed's BlowFly legacy, and yes the BlowFly floats so that category is perfect for it 😂

@@SwankyDiscGolf one of my buddie's dad's putts and approaches mainly with a old blowfly. takes a lot of touch since the soft disc will fight chains and lost power but man he is accurate and doesnt get bad groundplay from misses

Berg is most definitely Swanky! I understand how some people don't like it, but for some of us it is a staple. Not as much as the Zone, but it's close!

Thanks, this was interesting, but I think many of the discs you selected to this list were more like throwing putters than actual ”approach discs”. For example you included Prodigy´s PA-series/P-model but not approach series discs like A2 or the new Distortion (which is great btw). Also missing Toro (Innova´s new Zone), Rat, Suspect (I know it is OOP but awesome disc nevertheless), P3X, Anvil, Jokeri, Caiman, Gator3 (ok Caiman and Gator might fall more to the midrange category, but many ppl use those as approach discs), Rhyno. Clash Discs Mint is btw more like approach disc than Popcorn, good discs both though. But of course it is very subjective which discs are best and how they are categorized. The A2 is definitely Prodigy's best approach disc. Can't understand how this isn't on the list. Especially cause I'm pretty sure they just had a video or two recently where they were throwing one.

@@djfinesse1 well of course I'm using putters for approaching, but you did not seem to get what I meant (or did not want to). If there are discs literally in the "approach" category (like A-series) then why not include those in the approach discs video.. It also depends much about the playstyle, players personal skillset and throwing distance, what he/she considers as approach throw, disc and style. Someone might be using Firebird sidearms for approach when other is jump putting same distance approaches. So like I said, it is very subjective how you categorize discs and what is best for you. But yeah, generally of course all putters are also approach discs. I just thought that this list included many good "throwing putters", but were missing some great approach discs (like A2, Toro, Suspect, Distortion).

Don't sleep on the Chief, it's super nice. I actually switched from putting with Wizards to the Chief because the rim-depth was more comfortable for me.

You have to include the Prodiscus Jokeri on any Approach Disc list. Love my Jokeri, one of my most thrown discs. Have had several throw-ins with it from 75-175 feet.

anvil is mad underrated from westside. I'm not a big diameter fan so this small diameter os approach has been sick, great all around and helps w forehand rollers too. the plastics you can pick it up in help since bt beats quickly if you need that

The Streamline Pilot in Neutron plastic feels amazing. Took a few throws to get used to the depth and that micro bead, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The flight is so predictable even for my noob self. If I need a dead balls straight shot with a mild fade, this is the disc I'm reaching for every time. Holds whatever line I put it on very well. And again, the Neutron plastic feels so luxurious. It's super smooth and glossy, but has plenty of grip. How that works is beyond me. Glad I decided to give it a shot. Hoping Streamline expands their line a little more. Also love how there's not a sharp edge or hint of flashing to be found. They really seem to care about the look and feel of the end product. Respect for that.

I love the yikun hammer (chui) in tiger plastic. I'm bagging four because they are super cheap in price. Double thumb track feels amazing to me. Not as over stable as a pig, slammer, or zone. Worth checking out and the price is ideal. Not afraid to run any hole because of the cost to replace.

The DD Justice deserves a mention in (very) OS approach discs. Don't let the 5 speed fool you into thinking you can throw it far.

Thanks for doing another tier list-these are awesome vids. I agree with some of the comments about distinguishing between approach putters and driving putters. The judge, for example, is a fantastic driving putter, but on this list, it didn’t stand a chance against the zone and the harp. Off the tee, though, I’m reaching for the Judge over those two in calm conditions. I’d definitely be interested in seeing a list of driving putters from the different companies. Thanks again!

My approach discs are primarily a Lucid Justice and a K1 Soft Berg. I use them constantly. I have a Zone that just sits in my bag and is available for water shots if needed lol

Number 2 disc all time in other top 100 is the Aviar which got the low end of the good category in your approach/putt only list. Did you leave out a better Aviar than the x3? Also, I am having a hard time finding your list in text format. Where can I locate that?

Berg for 90% of my upshot’s - goes as far as you throw it. A2 for overstable duties.

I don't think you've thrown a Polecat if you think most people are throwing it as a joke. I was skeptical too, but it's got a really unique flight. The P-Model US is also not as understable as you might think. I was pleasantly surprised by that disc.

I Guess I am a berg fanboy. Theres like 10% of my shots that I just cant do with another disc. Short stabel shots where you can put it on any line. Without to think so much about how Hard you gonna throw. Or when you have a tree infront of you and 30 feet to throw. Just lean out and give it a chance with a forehand. If you miss you have a tap in after. You have to test it for whats its supoce to do. Anyway good list.

I have a puddle top Exo Soft Tactic. It feels great in my hand and is actually more overstable and reliable forehand for me than the zones that I tried. I'd at least put it at great for me.

I LOVE my very beat up exo hard tactic. Very straight with a tiny fade and sneaky glide. Holds any angle I put it on for those sneaky woods approaches

My envy got replaced by premium plastic Lunas. They fly so awesome for me. The proxy on the other hand is by far my favorite Understable approach disc

I was throwing all Prodigy for a couple of years, and I added the BERG to my bag for one round because it was given to me. It convinced me to mix my bag. Dead straight. Sticks where it lands. Game changer for inside 150', especially in the Texas wind.

It's dizzying how many approach discs there are when including straight up putters (luna, judge, keystone, nomad...) - the glaring omissions were the A-line discs from Prodigy (I think those are their main "approach" discs) - where would you rank those?

For me and my hands I’d have to disagree with the Tactic/Zone comparison. The Tactic fits my hand dang near perfect for forehand and releases with no wobble for me every time. The Zone in my hand doesn’t feel as good and comes out on wobble on some throws. I would have put the Tactic in great. The Zone can stay in swanky due to it’s history but I personally don’t feel the same level of euphoria a lot of others seem to have when throwing it.

Really enjoyed the breakdown this video gave! Great work overall! it's a bummer that for the socki slammer that we first hear "i haven't thrown this". can't really look at the ranking the same as the other discs then, especially since y'all didn't really agree on it's spot. even just giving it a few throws in the area this video was shot in could be enough to change that ranking up or down.

i use the harp and the anode as approach discs. harp is obviously a staple but the nice backhand flip approaches i get out of my anode are great. adding a doomsday landmine as a more stable backhand approach when it becomes pdga approved

Hard disagree on the polecat. I used to think it was a meme disc, but I played in a fun, "Polecat Only" tournament and it changed my mind. Not a great driving putter, but it's a dream for approachs in the woods. It holds any line you throw it on softly, so if you need to get around a corner and can't forehand something around, and are worried about the disc hyzering too early, the Polecat will just hold. As you beat it in it gets more turn, which for me is perfect because then I can throw it even softer and maintain the same shot shape.

in my oppinion, Berg is in category "god likes" in one higher category than sweaky. Maybe with Zone. I also use Pure, and that one just cant be in higher category than Berg.

The berg has an unbelievable torque resistance for such a slow disc, side arm. Also it will not go over 150’ very useful ranging disc. Wouldn’t putt with it but it very quickly became my go to approach, replacing the pro pig.

Been throwing a Reko X recently. Nudged my Jokeri out of the bag. Prefer it in the hand for bh, fh just as happy with it, awesome plastic of course but the Jokeri is a great disc in its own right.

I LOVE the sakibomb slammer . ever been in a situation where you have a huge tree ten feet in front of you, with the basket twenty to thirty feet behind that and no way to make it around the tree? that is what this disc is for. it is an extremely short range meat hook. its the only disc I Can make hook violently from short range.

There is a clear distinction between throwing putter and approach disc imo. Rhyno, Gator, Cayman, Clash Discs Mint etc. should be included. Remove the putting and somewhat neutral throwing putters and make a new list.

The guys have clash discs which just had the popcorn and a bunch of other putting putters on the list and leave out the king company when it comes to putters... Gateway. So many putters instead of actual approach discs. I would love to hear thoughts on approach discs rather than putters used for approaches. Prodigy has a while line of “A” discs. Plus, Jokeri, Gatekeeper, Anvil, Ghost, Distortion, Toro and many many other 4-speed types designed as approach discs.

Ice cream lid discs are really good, you just have to be used to throwing with the rim. I prefer the polecat a lot over the berg but the best one is the Rattler. Those discs aren't "objectively bad" as you claim, you just aren't good at throwing them.

I think you sold the Luna short. Consider your own points about it’s glide/distance and how it holds any line. Add to that the fact that many people putt with it and it belongs at the top just behind the Zone. Best distance with dependability as a thrower and commonly used for putting. Enough said.

Glow envy and neutron soft envys are the best I can throw my glow envy as far as any of my mids and it handles so much torque

Seriously needs to be remade. I love the Pure but this was supposed to be about APPROACH DISCS, not THROWING PUTTERS. Some of these overlap, yes, but there are way too many wrong choices of molds for this video here and not enough of the right ones. Wheres the A2? A3? Distortion? Slammer? Suspect? Justice? Gator? Caiman? Md5? Mutant? Sinus? Loki? Troija? (Troija by Prodiscus is something you have to try tho, seriously. It is ridiculous.)

Love the rankings. In my short, 14 month career as a disc golfer, I have progressed from Keyston to Harp to Zone to Envy. I still bag the Zone for some shots but I use the Envy a lot more. I also just aced holes 11 and 13 at Suwanee Creek with it!

Check out the Storm Crater. Forehand,backhand, it's better at being the pig than the pig. Stable in a headwind and tailwind. Yeah right. It's true.

I have one tiny issue. I bag 5 of these, and 4 of them are in the good category. I give three of them that spot though. Dillo definitely should at least be great. Also the pilot is essentially a deeper version of the envy. So it comes down to hand feel but I think they’re the same.

Left the video after you treated the berg with such contempt. "It has a niche use, that is 1 speed, super slow, that is all it's going to do." So a disc that won't float on you, responds reliably to the amount of power you want, and in my experience with the K1, has a reliable without over exaggerated finish. Hmmm... sounds like the definition of an approach disc to me. If that is niche, then the Zone is niche.

The Polecat is a great disc. Hating on it and loving super overstable stuff leads me to believe you have no touch and probably can't play catch or Ultimate and can only throw far.

I throw the Luna big Z off the tee alot. Anything 300 ft straight it is my go to. If I have a dog leg 300ft or shorter I go zone.
