Thanks Max, loving these videos. I'm a mid 60s model welder/fabricator who dicks around in a small shed with a lathe and mill. I think I owe you a few cartons for all the knowledge I have gleaned from watching your repairs. Keep em coming for all your apprentices.

The square thread and pitch on those 'tractor parts' reminded me of the threads on old school shoring jacks that were used in trenches decades ago. Looking forward to Pt 2 :)

Max, this video was great, but it brought back memories of one of our German plastic pipe welding machines that had a messed up square thread shaft, i worked on this shaft for 2 days doing what you did and got the machine running, 2 months later the machine was returned to our factory in Germany, and they replaced the shaft with a ball screw. my German colleague sent me the old shaft for a birthday present and i still have it, square threads suck, Thanks as always for the video.

That Bird Scarer keeps on giving Max, nicely done ✔️. As a skinny apprentice, working a Holbrook lathe, there was a strap around the tailstock to hook over the carriage to tow it, obviously simple to push it. I could not physically move it. Thanks for sharing.
@BillDavies-ej6ye2 ай бұрын
Me, too. Back in the late 60's, I worked on a big Holbrook as apprentice to a big Polish man, who would tight the tailstock quill clamp with his finger, and invite me to untighten it. Not turning, but grinding hobs. Nice machine.

Yep another great video, & full of learning opportunities. I wouldn’t complain if they were longer in length. 👍 Nice start to a Saturday morning watching a SVMS video early & in peace. It has been unusually cold & wet here in Perth this August that’s for sure, colder than a mutha in laws kiss. Dunno about you but my feet feel the cold on the concrete floor of the shed in this weather, and give me gypper. Grow walnut trees on that 9 acres. 😉👍

Hi Max, nice job. The operators would have been plagued with mud, sand and grit getting between the threads and having to hastily set it up. Our riggers used to throw our square thread scaffold leveling screws into a 44 gal drum of oil ready for use.

FFS Max an Aussie complaining about the pissing rain, gimme a break you sound like a brit, Oh and a 9 acre garden, poor you, plant some stuff or grow some cows. Nice work as usual Best wishes, Mal
@trevorkrause72202 ай бұрын
I don't think Max was complaining too much. Being in the SW region near Perth he should be blessing the rain as it will probably be the last time it really rains until the following hot dry Summer is over, and there probably will not be any spare water available to keep the "lawn" green and alive during that time. Those threads reminded me of some components of aluminium building scaffolding, and that type of scaffolding can really cop a hiding at times.
