Started the free wheel last night. One side didn't want to slide on the spline piece. Some lube and light tapping freed it up, but it still didn't disengage completely, even bending the retainer bracket. Since cable conduit had 2 breaks I picked up a new cable at ctc this morning for $23. Ottawa dealer was showing $45.

Wow that's wild for a cable, but I know with the recent economy everything has gotten more pricey. Good luck!

Jake, at 22:20 you described the spring as “torsion”. It’s actually a compression spring. An example of a torsion spring is the one on some garage door openers, where a single spring is mounted around a rod over the doorway and winds up on the rod. Think of it like torque, where a force is applied, rotating around a central pivot point.

The little project is coming along nicely. I’ve had good success with Fluid Film for years. It’s the only one that wouldn’t freeze in door locks of coaches. They were washed with a pressure washer after every trip, summer or winter. Looking forward to next video. Have a good week. Rick

For rust prevention we use the dripless RustCure 3000 bought at Peavey Mart. 2 years ago we could buy it at 50% sales for $4.50 a can now priced at $7.50 during 50% sales.

I'll be checking out the fluid film in the near future, I like using new products and once I find something that works good I stick with it. I use a lot of Permatex products but this honey goo is very good. We also use rust cure formula 3000 but I've never used it to lubricate parts, I suppose I could though 🤔

Awesome video! You provided so many tips for the viewers i totally lost count because there were so many. The only one i can add from watching all your videos is to use the FlexyFlo which i use when draining the oil on this style oil drain placement on snowblowers. Sorry i can not link that video on the top right or in the description LOL!

Just put the ctc cable on. It doesn't have the steel threaded insert in the handle for the 3/16 mounting bolt. The hole in the plastic was too small so I drilled with 5/32 and tapped to 3/16. Then there's that plastic bottom cover. It was cracked both sides where tabs go over chassis tabs. Used the hot stapler on it.

So the 30 inch 1550 has an engine mounting bracket. The 27 does not but has 3 unthreaded holes each side to accommodate one and chassises are same width. Wish I had known about them when I did the repower.

The triggered steering is superior to auto turn provided it is lubed as shown.

So I'm understanding now. The poulan with the blown tecumseh had no mounting plate, engine was bolted to the chassis ipl does not show an optional mounting plate. My craftsman 30 in with 1550 manual shows a mounting plate but different part number. I'll check tomorrow if my engine is on a plate or again direct mounted to chassis. Funny that my plan was to investigate that steering system tomorrow as sometimes my drive disappears and then returns and works fine. Maybe it's in need of good lube. I'm puzzled as I don't think my wheels are held on with with click pin in a hole. My recollection is a bolt in axle end, although I don't see that bolt in the manual

@waynestefinashen239
@waynestefinashen239 Жыл бұрын
We would need the model number of your engine to check for the mounting plate part number but since the 1350 and the 1450 had different mounting plates it is highly likely the 1550 also is different. If you purchased it used it is highly likely that some other has used a bolt vs. clip pin for keeping the wheels on. You may have to make an adjustment to your drive linkage or cable to engage the friction wheel to the drive plate earlier for continuous drive operation simply shorten the distance but do not overdo it which can cause cable failure from being too tight.
@gadasavideos8564
@gadasavideos8564 Жыл бұрын
Haven't checked yet but I wasn't clear on the bolt. It looked like a bolt in the end of the axle shaft, not a bolt in the hole instead of a pin.

@Wayne Stefinashen don't know what tricks my eyes had played but it has the clinch pins just like you show.

Jake, I’ve got an interesting diag question for you I just spotted in the comments of an old Taryl video on evaluating used lawn tractors, pre-purchase. Here it is, verbatim:”My 10.5 hp Briggs is got pressure at dipstick. If I unscrew the dipstick the engine bogs down and sometimes dies. Screwing the dipstick back down make it run fine. What would the problem be?” I suspect it’s a lean condition caused by an internal blown head gasket. Any thoughts? Wayne?
@EliminatorPerformance
@EliminatorPerformance Жыл бұрын
I would wager it's a combination of valves needing adjustment and possibly the crankcase breather having an issue. Could also be rings/cylinder issue. By opening the dipstick when the engine is running it essentially creates a vacuum leak. A lean mixture could absolutely be a result. Always start with simple things 1st, gas cap, carb (fuel) fuel line, spark, crankcase vent and compression. Then start deeper diagnostics if nothing comes from the 1st round of tests.
