My most successful refresh method is microplopping with a wet towel. It's fast and I get consistently great results! I never liked using my continuous mist sprayer to refresh because it makes my hair stringy and frizzy. I've been wetting my hands but it doesn't distribute the water evenly. Microplopping with a wet towel, is genius! The towel evenly distributes the water and the scrunching reforms my clumps with minimal frizz. Also, it reactivates the product that's already there so you don’t have to add more and end up with product build up. Here are the steps: 1. Soak a microfiber towel (or cotton t-shirt) in water. The trick is making sure the towel is really wet-just squeeze it out enough so it isn't dripping all over. 2. Microplop. I start upside down, then turn right side up to get my whole head. Keep scrunching the water in. 3. Pixie diffuse. 4. If I get some frizz (by day 3 or 4) I emulsify a pea sized amount of gel and glaze it over the frizzy parts. If it’s feeling dry, I’ll emulsify a peas sized amount of Untie the Knot (I’m a TreLuxe girl) and scrunch it in. I hope you try this and would love to know what you think! I posted this to several curly groups on Facebook and almost everyone that tried it, loved it! I’ve been a loyal follower of yours since I started my curly journey 3 years ago. Thanks for all the excellent advice!

Hey Courtney... I really liked this video because it seems so real. Other youtubers start their refresh videos by saying it doesn't look that bad or it still has curls....I mean why are you even refreshing when you already have the curls intact. But your hair looked normal and without curls. Really appreciate your honesty.

My favorite refreshes are heatless curls either dutch braids or robe tie curls or a heatless blowout. My favorite refresh if i want to wear my natural waves a few more days is mist my hair with water until damp, then use a foam and/or leave in conditioner, smooth and scrunch, and air dry

You do want to make sure that you mix it up every now and again, because relying on pulling your hair back can put tension on your hairline and can cause traction alopecia if you do it too much, or too tight.

I think your unrefreshed hair looks great! only needing that dry shampoo at the front roots. You call it "stretched out" (and various other insults I can't remember exactly, lol), but it's healthy, shiny, and voluminous, with a natural finish and brighter color than wash day. I mean, the curliest you can get it on wash day isn't the only way that looks good. Your hair is beautiful both ways.

Hey Courtney! I was wondering whether you could do a “how to brush/ comb wavy hair in between washdays” 😅 This feels silly because it should be so simple but BRUSHING my waves without wrecking their waviness is still a mystery to me 😅 I actually did buy a comb just earlier today because I felt so hopeless with the brushing that is de facto necessary for me 🫣 I’m a guy with shoulder-length wavy hair Sometimes I get lucky and my “fresh off the pillow” waves look better than my washday hair 😂 I also figured out I can help my hair by scrunching it into a beanie at night (instead of what you called the overnight pineapple) But I’m glad for this video because I sometimes just can’t get around combing/ brushing my hair, otherwise I just look messy

I have never heard of hygral fatigue, so I did not know I should not be wetting my hair on refresh days. YIKES! My refresh includes a quick swipe under the shower head, at the end of my shower. Just wetting the canopy of my hair. I work from home, so I air dry to about 80% then use low setting hair dryer to soften the crunch and finish drying. I also have not used shampoo forever, so I'm wondering if I don't notice any damage from wetting it nearly every day because I use so many other non-damaging practices? In years past I have tried other refresh methods, but none worked any better, and my way is just faster and easier. (I am lazy!)

My hair was always straight until I went thru menopause. Now I have wavy menopause hair. Super fine. It knots so easily too. I have tried so many refreshes but just end up wetting it every day in the tub and then add more product then diffuse. I work in an office and feel it has to be styled every day. It’s the knots that really bother me. Even sleeping with it in a pineapple doesn’t keep it from knotting up. I don’t know what else to do with it. I have watched hundreds of videos and haven’t found any on menopause wavy hair that just suddenly appeared and that tangles and knots so easily.

Hi there! I'm brand new to curly hair. I haven't known, still don't completely know, what my own curly hair looks like a I've always washed and immediately dried my hair straight. I was in a pattern of washing once a week. So now I'm trying to figure out how to have curly hair without washing everyday. What I'm not seeing is curly hair people combing before they refresh. I can't wrap my mind around that. Are we not combing with a wide tooth comb before we refresh? I would be a disgusting nappy mess if I never combed. 😩

Gonna be using at least one of these tomorrow morning - today was a wash day, but before I even made it out of the shower this morning I realized that my stomach was very angry and that I would not be making it in to work, so my hair routine got cut drastically short in exchange for curling up on the couch. I tried to let it air dry most of the way before caving to pull it up in a bun, but doubt much curl survived the day. 😂

Like you, Courtney, I don't like refreshing, but I have to, especially if I'm going out and it's only because I didn't use enough of the product on wash day. As it's stated in my handle, I like to keep things a.s.a.p (as simple as possible), so I usually will start with just using Marisa's method. Then I usually will use a spray leave-in. If that doesn't do it, then I will do a foam refresh. I don't have patience for the curl-by-curl refresh 😅
@VengefulAngeI11 ай бұрын
Curl by curl isn't bad if you only focus on the wonky bits & don't add water & don't brush style...I always do curl by curl but it's not the same way shown in this video, & it only takes me a few minutes plus another few minutes to diffuse it, I'm talking like 5-7 minutes altogether. I usually don't bother with refreshing unless things turned really bad lol
@SwavyCurlyCourtney11 ай бұрын

I love using foams to refresh (when I bother to refresh at all lol)! I just apply it curl by curl without using water, only on the ones that are starting to fray/frazzle out. Sometimes I use a leave in instead of a foam, but I just twirl individual curls around my finger with either the foam or leave in and then I hit it with the diffuser for a couple minutes. Unfortunately steam doesn't work well for me, it makes my curls very limp
@mitch8684 ай бұрын
All I have been doing is flipping my hair over into my bathtub and using a spray bottle (containing about one tablespoon of a curly hair conditioner and 1.5 cups of water mixed very well) and spraying my entire head about 10 times (I have extremely long hair). It’s only damp, not wet, and takes seconds! I let it air dry while I get dressed and do my minimal makeup. I do this every morning for about 5 even 6 days!

Is it the moisture or the heat or both from the steam that help refresh your hair? I have a clothing steamer that is either on or off, so I don't want to go that route, but I do have a humidifier that gives off cool vapor. I wonder if that would work. Also, I read somewhere that someone got their curly/wavy hair styled by someone who scrunched out the crunch with pomade and said she had great results. I have yet to try this because I only received the recommended product (Suavecito) today. Anyway, I know you love trying new techniques and would love to see how you do with this.

It seems to depend on the day and how far I am from my wash day. If I am just a little frizzy, I like to use either the gel I styled with or the reflex serum from Treluxe and do a marinas refresh. I get the foam, but good grief, you needed a lot of product. I have baby fine hair (but a lot of it) and I'm not sure my hair would take all of that. Then again, I'm 56 and have NO idea how to deal with wavy/curly hair because mine only came in that way after menopause. I'm still learning, so thank you for showing all of these methods because I have no clue. Pre-menopause? Conditioner in my naturally board straight, baby fine, very oily hair? Absolutely not. I looked like a wet rat. Now? My hair isn't nearly as oily, so it can handle light conditioner, but not a lot of product because it's porous at 70% silver, but still baby fine. I'm starting to learn the whole moisture thing (which wouldn't last through teasing and Aquanet concrete in a can before), but it's a struggle. Thank you for diving into all of the different things you do because I certainly need to learn as much as I can.
