Well, good luck to you - you will need it. It may look good now, but it will not last. The next crises will always come and stop you dead in your tracks. After 36 years as an airline pilot for 14 airlines - including four majors like Pan Am, I retired at United barely able to get off reserve on the most junior airplane and most junior base. (BTW, they totally ignored my retirement flight. They would not give me a choice of a trip and said if I wanted to have SOMEONE from the Chief Pilot office greet me, I would have to put in a request, and if someone was free at the time, they would send him out. Not like in the movies.) Everything depends on your luck and timing. You never get rewarded for your experience. And don't think this video is typical of your actual trips. I can't remember the last time ANYONE on a layover went out to dinner together. The Flight Attendants are all slam-clicks. Most of the time you don't even go to the same hotel. In fact, in one merger, the other pilot group tried to take away 100% of my seniority. You may be the lucky one with a normal good career...

Congratulations Swain and welcome to the United family! I have been with United as an Aviation Maintenance Technician in San Francisco for 33 years. Please get to know the gate mechanics who sign the MRDs (maintenance release document) for your airplane. Your mechanic will often be on the phone with TOMC (Technical Operations Maintenance Control in Chicago) minutes before your scheduled departure time, trying to MEL (Minimum Equipment List) a deferrable ELB (Electronic Logbook) log page item that doesn’t effect the safety of flight. With record post-COVID load factors, your gate mechanic is likely handling several scheduled departures simultaneously. Sometimes to the point of exhaustion. Please give him or her some love. A lot of media attention is given to the shortage of pilots for the airlines and I do appreciate that United management has allowed you to produce this video as a recruitment tool for pilots. I’ll have to admit that I wondered how you managed to pull off the wonderful production quality, given United’s typically draconian social media policy! With that having been said, you asked about what your viewers might like to see as part of the behind the scenes at United. United Airlines used to have a dedicated film and video department that produced wonderful films about United Airlines. Those old films can still be found at Periscope Films on KZbin. I read somewhere that it was United’s film department that produced the film of the underside of a DC-8 landing in Honolulu that was used in the title sequence for Hawaii Five-O (1968). I don’t have a citation but it is a good story. Anyway, if United is going to continue to grant you access for your videos, maybe you can help them to address the airline mechanic shortage by showcasing how what we as mechanics (AMTs) do, directly affects whether or not your flight is going to leave on time. One last question: Now that you’re in the “bigs,” does that mean you’re done with Bold Method?

Excellent videos Swayne, I was originally wanting to become a commercial pilot but went into the maintenance side as a A&P, I work for Boeing now but did get my private pilots license in 98

Welcome to the 57 and 67 gang, Swayne. You‘ll tons of fun flying these two beauties. I wanted to commend you on the cinematic quality of your video footage, really awesome stuff. And it looked like your schedule had a Berlin layover in stock for you? Hope you‘ll have a great time in Germany.

Quality video . I hope to fly the 757/76 one day for United or Delta. So this video is very relevant. I recently passed up an opportunity to fly one but for a cargo carrier. I passed on it for an Airbus gig while I time build to get accepted to delta. This is inspiration and the production quality is A1! Have fun and congrats.

I would only hire UND or Embry Riddle graduates, I would never hire anybody from ATP. Period!

Was just talking about you just a few days ago to another subscriber friend of mine on how you haven't posted a video in a while. Glad to see your new video and wanna congratulate you on finishing up your 100 hours. Looking forward to your next video. Hopefully you do another 360 video of your new planes. Stay safe.

I'm not a pilot (have no desire to be) but this KZbin channel is so cool. I was always interested in what it's like to be a major pilot
