Your hobbies are on hold. You miss birthdays, anniversaries, weekend BBQs with your friends, etc. You seldom sleep in your own bed. You're AWOL. For most pilots, the goal is to minimize TAFB while maximizing your W2. Not to jam in as many trips through customs (and sleep-wrecking time zone changes) as possible.

I remember one time meeting a United pilot in Denver who sat in the left seat and who had flown for many many years. He was out as to who he was to everyone and no one had any issues with it including United. I could say the same thing about the other airlines in the US and that was 20 years ago. Glad that nowadays we have the platforms that allows everyone to see the realities of life and Swayne is of no exception. Many commercial airline pilots are retiring soon so there is a huge need for newer pilots. Some of the best flights I've ever flown were by female pilots, something unheard of back in the 70s. The times have changed and for the better. Thank you Swayne.

Great video Swayne and thank you for sharing this amazing journey of a pilots life. United is lucky to have you as one of their pilots. What’s the minimum amount of time permitted between flights?

Part 117 rules define minimum rest and technically 10 hours of rest with 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep… But that would never really happen on a Europe trip. Most of our layovers are 24+ hours

Can you please make a video about doing the walk around the airplane on when the first officer knows when to go out to do it and how the first officer stays safe from other taxiing airplanes and just safe in general and what the first officer checks for on the airplane? I want to be a Pilot too by the way so that’s why I’m wondering

You do such a great job in your editing, and monologues. I look forward to each video you do. As a guy that spent his career below wing it’s nice to see above wing have such a great and contagious attitude. Keep going places and I’ll keep watching. Clear skies and tail winds my friend.

A friend of mine is blind and an aviation historian (Mark Carlson, he's written several books about his adventures) - he travels to conventions with a seeing eye dog. Once they stopped in O'Hare and had a long layover and the dog REALLY had to go. There was supposed to be someone at the gate to take the dog to the relief area but no one was around; as they were discussing what now? the pilot came down the ramp and asked if he could help. My friend could only wonder what the sight of an Airline Captain with mirrored sunglasses on, with a Seeing Eye Dog, caused in reactions amongst the other travelers in the terminal... I've been binging your videos today from Hawaii on; what a wonderful career you've had and the idea to document everything for YT was genius. I remarked to my friend how well spoken you were and what a great representative you were to Mokulele airline. I can see why the Big Boys grabbed you up. Well done, young man! Fair skies and safe landings.
