Notice how for first half of the trailer (him being Arthur) ,he seems very unhappy , he can't have genuine smile (he forcefully tries to make a smile with his fingers) but at the end he finally smiles , which means he has completely "transformed" in the the joker .

Joker is the hero in this story and I love that aspect. The trailer never shows him doing bad things. Just bad things happening to him.
@robforge74925 жыл бұрын
Lol he's not a hero. He's definitely not going to be pure evil like in most media, but he's not going to be completely innocent either. By the end of the movie I think he's going to have done a lot of horrible shit.
@FandomZone5 жыл бұрын
While probably not a hero he is a victim of circumstance and a sympathetic character from a certain point of view. I can see how he could be “the hero” as Gotham City is responsible for the bad things happening kinda thing.

Life is monstrous, infinite, illogical, abrupt and poignant; a work of art in comparison is neat, finite, self-contained, rational, flowing, and emasculate. Sometime in the last century the word Asylum took out a negative connotation in the United States at least as far as mental institutions. The names would become increasingly more euphemistic they would pop up with names like the Paula A. Lewis Center, Summit Behavioral Healthcare or Bayside Center for Behavioral Health. A lot of larger government-run asylums it major cities simply became known as "state hospitals" Philadelphia state hospital at Byberry, Kentucky State Hospital, Pennhurst State school and Hospital and perhaps the most infamous of all the one that Arkham is based on, Danvers State Hospital. Often once state governments took over these asylums they retained their old name. Usually it was the name of a founding doctor a nearby body of water or the neighborhood that the hospital was located in.

I like this sad clown direction they're going with. I love that he has to force himself to smile. At 1:20 he knows social dynamics call for him to laugh at the punchline of a joke, so he awkwardly tries to laugh, but you can tell it's completely fake by his shifty eyes. I love that, instead of his mind just snapping, it seems like he is going through a gradual descent into madness, wich is far more interesting to witness. The trailer alone shows that he really takes his mother's words to heart and that due to his mental illness he really becomes obsessed with the idea that his purpose is to bring laughter and joy to the world. You can tell that it was the only concept he can identify with after his mental break. Also, considering their duality, the fact that he tries to put a smile on a young Bruce Wayne's face at 2:00 is genius! Many actors can make you empathize with their roles but Joaquin Phoenix has this uncanny ability to make you feel an actual connection to his characters. Judging by the trailer, this movie has the potential to transcend the comic book movie genre.
@FandomZone5 жыл бұрын
I agree, it easily could transcend comic book movies and go on to be something extra special. It does appear to be gradual, with the whole world turning on him despite his best intentions to maintain positive. In turn, this positivity will flip on its head into insanity

@@FandomZone This movie seems more like a character study of how even a well mannered, decent man can be grinded down by life/society and how his initial positive outlook on life, can be twisted into something sinister.
