What an episode! A great look at Marc's origin, along with a whole lot of emotions. What did you think of Ep 5? Also there is a couple of second period at the 1.09 mark where the sound unfortunately cuts out, but comes back quickly.

Sometimes, after understanding why they are the way they are, an alter will give up themselves, and heal into the other selves, (balancing their soul, in a manner of speaking,) ALSO Marc didn't need to accept it. Stephen did. Now...They are still fully blocking out Jake. As long as one alter continues to exist, all alters can be restored to "life," due to the persistent nature of trauma. One of our alters had faded, but when a shared trigger (where a single truama triggering event hits two switch triggers,) she came back within minutes of me switching out with the other alter that was triggered. Again, persistent trauma. Also, "going AWOL on a fugue state," is a reference to Jake. (The alter in the other sarcophagus.)
@EraseMemoriesHD
@EraseMemoriesHD 2 жыл бұрын
If I may ask, when an alter switches out, does the now present alter, have any recollection of the others experience? or is it purely their own?
@JeronisLeror
@JeronisLeror 2 жыл бұрын
@@EraseMemoriesHD depends on the status of that alter when the switch happens. There are 5 different states of consciousness for systems that are known and well documented. Fronting, Co-Fronting, co-conciousness, background consciousness, and blackout. Fronting is what happens after a switch. Co-conciousness is where the alter is aware of what's going on, but dissociated from the body, (sometimes this manifests in the "inner world," if a system has access to one, as viewing, hearing, and or feeling the conscious sensations of the body through a different medium, like a TV set,) If the alters and/or host in question are aware of each other, sometimes they can communicate with the front via intrusive thoughts or auditory hallucinations in this state without being ignored as intrusive (see episode 1,) and if there is prior consent, this connection is stronger, and can include visual hallucinations. (See the tail end of episode 1 and episodes 2-4,) Then there is Co-Fronting. If alters and/or host are unified in an idea or action, aware of each other, and prior consent exists, more than one alter can be at the front at the same time. (See episode 4 when Marc punched Steven with their own fist.) These can occur with varying degrees of memory loss (dissociative amnesia,) depending on the level of consent involved, (see this episode,) and also the circumstances of the switch. This brings us to the last two. Background consciousness only happens with systems that have an "inner world." The brain fills in the blanks during this partial blackout with interactions with other alters and NPC equivalents in the "inner world." Then there is full black out, which is just as it sounds. (For those with an inner world this sometimes manifests as the alters sleeping.) When a trigger is hit, while the corresponding alter is in one of these 2 states, they have dissociative amnesia of what happened between the last time they were at least partially co-concious and when they started fronting. (see episode 1 where Marc was forcing a front due to the threat to their life, and 3 where Jake forced the front, for the same reasons vs. the times where consent was involved.) For OSDD systems and systems in bodies with multi form trauma (Complex PTSD,) the wole thing gets way more complicated.

@@JeronisLeror I was going to mention, I've seen a lot of videos or comments from people who have DID, who say they're more so at least happy to have another large project portray DID, because up until now all we had was Split. I agree, I think the first part was Jake, his facial expression and accent (incase he is Jake it’s another impressive performance by Oscar). Such a heavy episode, watched it twice now and still cried. The scene where Marc was breaking down and switched to Steven calling his mother thinking that she’s still alive when her funeral’s literally being held 2 houses away crippled me. Also this ep with Dr. Harrow reminds me of Wandavision where Agatha, who is also the villain, ‘helps’ Wanda walk through her past and the way they set this emotional rollercoaster is right before the finale. I’m excited to how this ends and they should make another season.

@@FandomZone YES!!! I completely agree. And do you think any of it... is real? Steven is wearing the exact same outfit he was wearing in his FIRST scene in episode 1, when he wakes up in the morning. In episode 1, remember the girl who was at the museum... who asked Steven: "Did it suck for you? when you got rejected from the field of reeds?"... then Steven responds... "That doesn't make any sense because I'm not dead, am I?" then he pauses and repeats to himself "Am...I?" then Donna interrupts. There is no way the girl could ask it unless it was some made up reality too. I suspect that Marc has been in this "cycle" over and over again in different perspectives. From episode 1, we have been seeing Steven's perspective. So I doubt if ANY of this is real. I mean everything, even the reality we were shown where Marc got shot. I think we are seeing so many false realities overlapping with each other and we are inside Marc's head while he is ACTUALLY dying from something else/he might even be asleep/sedated.

Incredible & heartbreaking. I think (and pray) Steven will be back in the last ep - with DID (from what I've researched, I don't have DID so pls take my opinion with a pinch of salt) an alter doesn’t just ‘die’ or ‘disappear’ when they go with integration treatment (good communication between alters, an acceptance of a system, less/no blackouts when switching etc) . If they want to go with final fusion (merging experiences, traits etc), it takes years and years, a lot of work and a readiness to fuse - Steven didn’t look at all ready when he fell off that boat and introducing the third alter and then fusing in the same ep without a chance for the character to breathe would be a weird choice for me. I don't think I'd be mad if they did it as fusing is a valid treatment, I'd just miss Steven and Marc as separate entities, especially with Oscar saying that Steven is autistic so I don't know why they'd do that when the character is so important and unique. Either way I need 3 - 5 business days to recover excuse me while I return to my sobbing fest

GREAT REACTION, you guys. Thanks. Asylum's excellent exposition of originS, plurality intended,, makes me go along with your speculation that, not depicted, yet, Jake evolved from the mental state Marc induced to incept Steven. It tracks that just as Steven was Marc's psyche's protection from suffering the crushing trauma of the victimization inflicted upon him, Jake likewise is his protection from suffering the condemning trauma of the victimization he inflicted upon his MoonKnight marks.

Great reaction as always. This episode was so good! Really powerful stuff. And that personality in the beginning with Harrow was totally Jake. He was beat up, had a different demeanor and accent. He was very aggressive and tried to use the glass pyramid as a weapon. I think he might help save Marc and Steven in the finale because he might still be on that boat. I'm sure Taweret will help too. Maybe she'll contact Layla and coordinate with her. I can't wait to see. Did you notice the scarlet colored scarab on the scarf that Layla's father was wearing? I think they are teasing that Layla may be or become the Scarlet Scarab. One detail I noticed in that first scene with what we think is Jake is that he was the only one tranquilized out of all the times the personalities showed up in that room with Harrow. I think this is a sort of visualization of what Marc has been doing for a long time. Suppressing Jake. That's why he didn't open the sarcophagus. I think Jake is suppressed in his subconscious and only comes out if Marc is in mortal danger. I don't think Marc is even aware he's doing this. Jake is probably the final piece of him that he needs to make peace with at some point to be whole. I'm stoked for next week.

I think Jake took the beatings. Marc dealt with the burden afterwards & Steven was protected. Because Jake took the beatings, Marc checked out. Giving Jake the awareness of both Marc & Steven but not them having awareness of Jake. Jake is the violent one. That comes out if Marc is in mortal danger. So Jake has to aware & on guard to protect whatever Steven & Marc get themselves into.

Have you guys noticed all the times that Jake has already been in the show? You guys saying he was a Bostonian cabby is the only way I picked it up. Originally thought it was just bad continuity in the accents, but when you guys mentioned Jake I had to go back for a rewatch. Episode 1, probably the one that set up the date with the tour leader. Also, the one that killed people to escape (scarab covered in blood, dead cupcake man etc). Maybe Jake tells people his name is Scotty? Episode 3, rooftop killings that Marc said wasn't him. I think we finally see Jake when he is getting changed and talking to Layla in the truck "I really liked that jacket", had a weird accent and tells her that no, she doesn't really know him. Different accent than Marc has in the very next scene. (I think Marc and Jake are used to jumping in and out and sharing the body/memories more). Episode 4, the third sarcophagus... In episode 5, talking to dr Harrow, the one with the broken nose and different accent, tries to stab himself in the eye, pretty sure he is Jake. Also pretty sure we see Jake again when we see the little kid flash to Steven , then right when they are leaving to room and the kid is about to get beat, I think we see the kid look at his mom and flash to Jake (that's why Steven wasn't aware of the beatings). Also later when Steven and Marc are at the massacre dig site (origin scene), I think they're standing over Jake, and Jake is the one that actually made a pact with Conshu. You also mentioned that originally in the comics the DID was from becoming Moon Knight, but later retconned to happening in his past. What if Jake was the beaten dog when they were children but then the mad dog killer when they were in the armed forces. Marc seems regretful of all the people he killed, maybe it was really Jake for the moments when the death blow was struck? Going back and thinking of it as Jake in those scenes is so much more impactful, especially the broken nose Dr Harrow scene. Anyone else notice this or more?

Marc isn’t aware of Jake but Jake is aware of both Marc & Steven. Jake took the beatings. Is their protector when they get into mortal danger. Marc/Steven blamed each other for killing the guys on the roof top. And both denied doing it. In this episode Marc said he was dismissed from the military for going into a fugue state. That means Marc went awol, traveled but was amnesiac of what happened & couldn’t explain it to his military superiors. Marc doesn’t really want to know Jake. He’s suppressing him. He doesn’t want to relive the actual beatings. It’s enough right now for him to know that he was beaten. He lived with the physical scars. I also think it was Jake drinking outside his mom’s shiva. His body looked all Boston brawler. Like when he was in the hotel room drinking. People thought it was Steven in the mirror. But Steven wasn’t violent at all until this episode. In that episode Marc hands were bloody when he broke the mirror & he was wearing a Star of David. Which neither Steven or Jake’s wear. And Marc is a tortured but faithful Jew. How he slammed the yamaka to the ground then clutched it to his chest. And how Marc remembers everyone he killed. Probably done by Jake. But like always Marc carries the burden.
