In this slightly out of my normal wheelhouse video, I will unbox the Vilros Raspberry Pi Zero W Microcontroller Premium Black Case Edition and review its contents. I will also demonstrate installing the Rasperian operating system using the included microSD card preinstalled with NOOBS.

I just ordered a Raspberry Pi. All the videos I watch remark on the technology in such a small package. We take our phones for granted but they are smaller and probably more powerful.

Hi Robert, That is totally true. for the most part. Phones a pretty sophisticated electronics but are purpose built with custom boards headers and other things to make it the phone. The reality is when people talk about the raspberry pies size and power they are talking in context of the cost of the device and what it can do. Most phones these days have electronics costly in the many hundreds and often approaching a $1000. This was a pretty interesting article that showed the original iPhone X costs Apple approximately $370. The other thing that makes the raspberry pi big is the IO systems so we can connect all the fun stuff. The actually processor is super small. So in a price, performance, size context you can see why people love them.

Do you have to solder the rasberry pi in? If someone wanted to program on it?
@SoWeBoughtaHouse
@SoWeBoughtaHouse 4 жыл бұрын
No you don't. You have the option to purchase the pi with header pins already soldered on. Then you can use jumper wires to connect to the different interfaces. When it comes to programming the pi is pretty versatile. It is really just a small Linux computer. You can program using C, python etc. You can even run service like Apache web server. What kind of programming are you looking to do on it?

@@SoWeBoughtaHouse Im looking to do some C programming on it, tryna make like network scanners and things like that just as a project. Like what is the soldering for exactly?

@@AboudiHabibi Good Morning. You don't have to solder anything if you don't want to. There is a header area on the Raspberry pi board for you to connect sensors to it. When you purchase a pi you generally have two options, one where the header area already has connection pins soldered in or one that doesn't. If you are prototyping get the one with the pins soldered in. All you need then is jumper wire to connect to the pins and then to each sensor or peripheral. If you go that route you will never need to solder the pi. You can just connect a USB keyboard, mouse and HDMI monitor and begin programming away. If your making a device that is going to be more permanent you might now want header pins on the pi. In this case ,you could get the one without the pins and solder the peripheral wires directly to the pi board. Soldering them in only has a benefit that they can't fall off easily. Usually I prototype with a pi that has the pins already on and solder final projects. Hopefully that makes sense, but please let me know if you have any other questions. If you do ever need to solder, it is also not that hard. Sometimes you can't get around it on the sensor side. There are a lot of devices that you might want to use that don't come with any pins attached for breadboarding or other types of connection and you'll have to put them on. What is the reason you want to avoid all soldering for?

But what does it do? lol. Everything is way over my head. I see it's an OS but... hmmm. Don't know where to begin on that one. My dh is an electrical engineer! Good choice. Now explain that thang you got there. lol

@Super Maker Hi Super Maker. I haven't tried the zero yet with an emulator. I still want to do that project. Bu my experience with it so far that is can be a bit slow, but I think if you optimize it the right way it might be fine. If you are looking for a hi-power emulator though, you might want to check out the raspberry pi 4. Though to answer your question about 30p I think you will be ok. With the full Raspian system installed, I was able to play mindcraft without issue. That wasn't through an emulator though.

@Super Maker Honestly I think your fine with a zero. It has exponential amounts of power next to what those original games needed. I actually want to build a retro game console with buttons and everything I just need a little more time. Are you planning on running an emulator on top of Rasperian or are you going to run Retro Pi?

@Super Maker I'm about to upload a video on using NOOBS to install PI OS and then I'm going to do one on RetroPi with a zero W. Is there anything you'd like to see in the video?
