I had a blast doing that job. Now I’m just training guys that want to do these jobs before they go to boot camp. It’s not nearly as fun. Do yourself a favor if you’re thinking about trying out for SEAL, SWCC, EOD, Diver, or AIRR- be in shape BEFORE you enlist and start working with your NSW Scout. The training we do is to prepare you for selection- not to get you in shape. Great video.

I worked with one of them & he told me about a time his chopper got shot down in Vietnam, he saved 2 guys, left the dead & boobie trap the wrecked chopper which exploded shortly after telling him that the VC were at the wreckage. He didn’t stop running until he got the 2 wounded in the evac chopper before passing out.

Much like how the A-10 Warthog is the savior of regular ground troops. These guys and Air Force PJs are the saviors of special ops. I was regular active duty (U.S Navy: RATE/MOS: Damage Controlman). The regular military is a very hard job to do and spec ops is an even harder job than that. I'm very grateful there are men in America like this on my side. Every job is important to the mission. Every troop is valued. Hooyah!

This edited version (shown here) is from the unedited full length video titled; "The Navy's Best Kept Secret"- originally made by experienced combat film crews hired by the Navy and found on the U.S. Navy SWCC website page. The full / unedited video then found it's way onto KZbin. This job is not for the weak. SWCC is the other half of Naval Special Warfare (SEALS being the other half). SWCC is Naval Special Warfare - Group-4. Both SEAL and SWCC (NavSpecWar) have their headquarters together in Coronado, California. The segments you show here are highlighting SBT-22 SOC-R DET - This team is from Stennis, Mississippi - located on the Pearl River, and where they are involved in training exercises seen in this video as well. Of the three SWCC Teams, SBT-22 is the only team that utilizes the SOC-R boat you're seeing in this edited video. With that mentioned, their (SBT-22) forefather's are the men who served on PBR's (Patrol Boat Riverine) throughout the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. SBT-22 is the only official "Riverine" unit in NavSpecWar. The other teams SBT-12 (Coronado, CA), and SBT-20 (Little Creek, VA) both utilize MKV SOC and SOC RHIB combatant craft (various large and small inflatable raft style boats). I would be remiss if I didn't include, the forefather's of SWCC (all three teams) are the PT Boats the Navy utilized in the Pacific Theater of WWII. As for your comment on SWCC not going through BUDS, that is a little misleading. Both SEAL and SWCC candidates begin with pre-BUDS, then although they go their separate way, SWCC candidates must also master combat swimming and their physical score demands are the same extreme requirements as BUDS to complete training. SWCC work with and insert & extract SEAL Teams, Army Delta Force Teams, Army Ranger Teams and have also worked with allied Special Op's teams like Australian SAS, and such. SWCC motto; "On Time, On Target, Never Quit". Regardless of whether SWCC Teams are on a team solo / specific mission, or are working with Special Op's teams, they adhere to, and honor the "no man left behind" creed. SWCC has also been apart of humanitarian missions such as water rescues in flooded New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.

SBU22 (prior to them being SBT22) became the only riverine unit in the Navy after they decommissioned my old unit, SBUXI in 2001 (I served as the reviver assault division officer between 1984-89). Stennis got our Mini ATCS and wrecked a few, and I heard that the rest of the minis went to the Canal Zone and further south. The Special Boat Units were precursors to SWCC and minis precursors to SOC/Rs. Best job in the Navy besides flying tactical jets…

1000 rounds of 308 weighs 34.9 lbs. firing mini guns in high rate 6000 RPM 209.4 lbs per minute of ammo looks great on movies but highly unlikely to carry enough ammo to sustain 3 mini guns and others that fire 700-1000 RPM boat would sink. I would rather have a Vietnam PBR boat where gunners were not exposed to RPG attacks from the jungle the cabin was armored . Mini guns look cool for movies but I don't see the value in them realistically. They might be better from aircraft as they only have a few seconds on target that is why fighter jets use them. PBR boats had twin 20mm forward cannons when the round hit sent shrapnel get a better kill radius and they can take out vehicles and even some armored vehicles with it.
@mikesanservino8306
@mikesanservino8306 2 жыл бұрын
PBRs were made of fiberglass and had VERY little ballistic protection. Mini guns are EXTREMELY effective at breaking ambushes and when you are on a River, you are ALWAYS in an ambush zone by definition. The mini guns are NOT for sustained contact, these boats cannot survive in long sustained fights because of ammo load out limitations. PBRs had twin .50’s up front, not 20mm canons.

Something that never gets talked about are units like this. Everyone knows the Rangers, Seals, Delta, MARSOC, etc etc. but these support units sometimes go through the same or very close to training as those more known units. Guys like this or the Night Stalkers for example are taking small units into enemy territory. They're highly likely to end up getting caught up in the battle, far from the safety of their bases and QRF units. If one of these boats were disabled or a Night Stalker chopper goes down, the pilots and crew need to be able to keep up with the units they were transporting. If not it could get everyone killed or if they're lucky left behind and hopefully avoid capture to be rescued. Not to get political, but in the next 10 or 20 years, if we go to war with China, which isn't as far fetched as one would think, our entire strategy is going to have to change. They're have already started to reorganize and shuffle units away from counter insurgency doctrine back to conventional war doctrine in preparation for it. Units like these guys are going to be in high demand. We won't be fighting in the desert. That whole region of the world, Southeast Asia, is just jam packed with rivers and jungles. Not to mention that a lot of fights are going to occur on the islands China has been building into naval and air force bases the past decade.

Oh it is not a matter of whether you want to go to war with China. The China Communist Party has already declared total war on the US and the West. They want world domination. Through fetanyl and Opiod epidemic (Drug warfare) , sars-cov-2 virus (Germ warfare), intellectual property theft (software, fighter aircraft, military, chips, life sciences, viruses), assisting ANTIFA, mailing suspicious seeds to people who ordered nothing, they are waging unrestricted warfare on the US. Be prepared for a high-intensity war in East and Southeast Asia - especially Taiwan.

This was filmed at Ft Knox when it was one of the few areas the boats could fire at 360 without restriction. The workups for this are brutal and at the time of filming each RTU(Riverine Task Unit) was receiving 3 million rounds per 6 month workup. Cleaning those weapons was a 2hr event after training all day. The average shooter shot 10,000 a day while over the period of that workup it could total easily 300,000 per guy. The guy driving was usually on his third workup and is the boat captain. Fun job!

One of my best friends retired a SWCC Master Chief a couple years ago. I’d say that some of these other SWCC’s in the comments would know him. I won’t give his name or details but I will say that he’s 5’6” on a good day. Lol

Everyone just loves an hard extraction, dont they?...In movies, books, retelling events by the campfire, safely back at home.... The best extraction from an mission is the silent type I would say, 100%. Every time.... Dont get me wrong...these guys are like an "Iron fist" too you more delicate part of the human body hahah. When and if you need them and they show up in time, you will feel like royalty.

Current navy guy, not any kind of sf, but I've seen their boats up close on coronado, they are stupid fast and depending on the version and unit they have 5 gun mounts and mix 240s, miniguns, 50s and I've been told they can mount mk19s

I served In Special Boat Units back in the 80's before it was called SWCC. Back then the Navy didn't consider it a special rating or assignment this made it hard at times to stay assigned to to a boat units. It was not until the late 80"s when the navy realized the money being wasted training people for the boat units and then having them force to go to fleet after their tour because there was no open billets. That when SWCC was born this allowed boat crews to stay in the units and not be force out to fleet duties the special SB rating and qualification badge came later. I miss it every day

When I first learned about SWCC. After enlisting in the Army Reserves. I was what I call deviated, only because I wanted to go navy because of my father but wanted action and all I knew about was SEALs and BUDs I never thought I’d make it and just just action. Not saying SWCC is by far..., easy at all! However I wish o would’ve spoke to a navy recruiter or heard about SWCC. Cause that just looked more my style then SEAL training to me . Once again not saying SWCC is easier or pussy training, it just looked more like what I was looking for and could’ve been a sailor like my father. I love the US. Army and have met some of the best people, that are my family today. But sorry for the vent- rant however SWCC is one amazing program that the navy and recruiters should promote a little more. God bless all branches of Military. And America

Was drinkin a couple beers with some buddy’s in VA at a boat launch. Turns out these dude’s enter at that spot and did training. We were at the wrong spot but they were super cool. Even ripped off a few rounds from the machine guns when they left. It was pretty awesome to see and the boats were pretty fast too.

You brought up good points : Which job? From the outside looking in, the driver has the hardest job. He is your cover, you have no armor, no were to hide, no natural cover to dive behind, just the drivers skill, his situational awareness in a highly chaotic situation has to be beyond human. Ammo, how much ammo can you carry? You're only defense is an extremely fast and highly violent one, burning through an ungodly amount of rounds.

In a narrow canal like that, have about 6 bad guy's on each side of the river bank with RPG's, 4 snipers, 2 targeting each boat driver as they idle along and it's over for the boat crews! Take out the drivers first, then as soon as the snipers pick them off, the RPG guy's zero in on the boats, by by SWIFT crews! Sorry, but your first comment was they're sitting ducks, and they are! Now, do it at night with FLIR and Thermal scanning the dense vegetation for the bad guy's and you are in a much better situation, not much, but better! Also, aerial assets such as a C-130 gun ship/Apache Gunships flying cap with all of it's IR/Thermal sensing equipment would be a must also! Anything that gives a edge for the SWIFT boys! But just the boats alone is almost suicide! Just sayin!

Marine reacts to SWWC? Is that what defined the rest of your life? Having been in the organization moved around by the Navy using hand-me-downs being called first into anything because a Corp. is smaller than an Army?. That's it? That's what defines you? Low standards.

Those blokes are running the gauntlet, the only protection is bullshit firepower and speed. Hats off to em, solid work !!! interesting how they run 3 different weapons systems all ballistic no IDF / HE / DFSW . Straight up bullets in the face 5.56 up front, 7.62 out the sides and good old faithful . 50 Cal in the back. All about suppressing the enemy with rounds down range so the boys can exfil, from what I can see. The driver is where the skill is at any monkey can pull a trigger or man comms but handling a boat in Close combat like that takes skill and balls.
