Definitely a productive off-season day with the bike fit AND the sweat test. Was going to suggest the Garmin Drink Alerts if you are having trouble remembering to drink, but glad you mentioned it at the end.

I used to drink nothing but water on rides & was easily fatigued. Now I always use SIS GO electrolyte. I buy a 1.6kg tub & mix that in my bidons before a ride. If I'm on a long ride on a hot day, I always take a tube of SIS GO electrolyte tablets, that you dissolve in water, just in case I empty both bidons.

Oops! Reading that back makes it sound like I use all the 1.6kg tub on a ride! You get a measuring scoop in the pack & I tend to use 1 or 2 scoops depending on bidon size.

That was really insightful. I have an ileostomy, so my fluid intake has to be spot on, no matter whether on the bike or just daily tasks. Like everyone, I do lapse and pay a hellish price .

The other side of this equation is your sweat rate, which is easy to determine by weighing yourself with your water bottles before and after an endurance event. The difference in kg will be the amount of sweat lost in litres and if you divide by the time taken that will give your sweat rate. It's worth recording at different temperatures and training intensivites as that will give you an idea on how much fluids you need to take during an endurance activity.

I need to get this test done. I ended up in the hospital with hyponatremia once. I was making no sense and started having convulsions. I was on a century ride in 100 Degrees (38C). My kidney function was at 35%. Scary time as the doctors were very concerned. I know I’m a salty sweater but haven’t any idea about my actual needs.

If you normally eat a balanced diet you'll rarely need extra electrolyte's during a 4hr ride in the UK. Foods are full of them, bananas, cereal bars etc which you may be eating when riding? If getting cramps you can make a DIY drink with salt and apple juice etc, many recipes about.

Apparently coffee is a diuretic and a stimulant, mixed with exercise makes you sweat.... 'Ull' east yorkshire.

As a chemical, caffeine increases production of urine, which means caffeine is a diuretic. But most research suggests that the fluid in caffeinated drinks balances the diuretic effect of typical caffeine levels.

Precision Hydration has a Locator function on their website for where you can get this done. Seems to me it is more sports physio that offer this service, rather than a GP.

5:06 excessively poor smelling sweat is an indication of bad gut health and poor diet. Highly recommend seeing a naturopath or dietitian to help with that. The smell is a sign of worse issues

Some shoes are made to accommodate foot deformities like bunions. See the Lake CX 242, for example. Other strategies may be to make a small v-shaped slit in the shoe to accommodate the bony protuberance.
