The only fish I have from can is either sardines in tomato sauce, tuna or salmon in mayo, never have herring before.

Your dish really looked like my tuna potato salad, tuna flakes with boiled eggs and potatoes, mayonnaise, diced tomato, cucumber & onion. Yummy.

Thanks for this video. I love hering. I remember in my childhood living in Germany we had it often. My mom would get one that had onions and was in a sourcream type of sauce. She would always add extra onions and thinly sliced apples. We had potatoes with it as well. Sometimes she made a quark to go along with it. And I think little pickles. For new years she would make Brathering. You fry fresh flour dredged hering. After that it was marinated in a vinegar brine that had lots of thinly sliced onion and mustard seeds. It was marinated for about 3 days. I'm in the States now. And pickle hering is not always available. Our local Aldi store sells German products twice a year. At least on one of them, it sells hering in a can, but it is not pickled. It comes in 3 types of sauces. One tomato, one mustard, one in a mild Curry. I stock up when they come around. In Berlin, I liked going to the Nordsee store to buy Rollmops and other fish items. Smoked fish was a big thing back then as well. I do love Matjes as well. So, seeing your video today almost made me drool 😂 I would love to see more videos like this.

Sounds like your mother made some amazing herring dishes. We’ll try to make some similar dishes for future videos because I absolutely love pickled herring and haven’t had that in years 😄😄 Thanks for the reminder. Have a wonderful Christmas 🎄

There are Roller Mops in Sweden? (Rolled Herring Filet with Cucumbers and Onions inside).
