The Mess kit is called m/40 and was actually not issued to all soldiers before 1945. They used the same kit until the 2000s. The cap is a m39 “båtmössa” and was used with the m/39 uniform not the m/58 who used the m/59 mössa. The crown on the helmet is a m/42 ”nationsmärke”.

I gather Swedish uniforms and did not know that the m/59 båtmössa was used with the m/58 tunic. Tack så mycket, landsfrände!

The hook on the mess kit is for your wooden stick if you are warming food/water over a open fire. Swedish helmets saw combat in Finland during WW2. Finnish army had m/21, m/26 and m/37 helmets made in Sweden.

I like your mess kit. I haven't seen that variant until now. I have seen about 20 of the stainless kits in person, but the top handle plate is triangular rather than the the more common square.

I've got the 1968 version of the mess kit complete with fuel bottle stove and stove stand which goes over the mess kit when stored. Only paid $4 for it a couple years back.

I don't do re-enacting but I use those old Swedish wool tunics as my everyday jackets during winters here in Finland. They are cheap and high quality. I myself have three different versions of them. One with different lower pockets than your jacket in the video, it has breast pockets too. One is exactly like the one in this video and one seems to be originally a greatcoat which has been modified to be a shorter tunic.

I just bought first one. It has the slanted pockets in front and no chest pockets. Dated 1959. What size are yours and what size chest do you have. I want to order one with chest pockets.
@Dremeli4 жыл бұрын
@@truthhurts2149 I find the 1959 model is more roomy than the one with chest pockets. I use 1959 model with size "48" marked on collar. My chest size is about 100cm and 1959 model is, as said, roomy enough to wear a thick wool shirt under. What comes to the older model with chest pockets, their sizes are smaller. I have one with a size stamp "104"(cm), and it fits snugly with a thin wool shirt under.

@@Dremeli interesting. Thanks for replying. Well i guess i will see. The one i bought is size 100. Hope it fits well otherwise i will continue my search and sell that one on ebay. The 1959 does look a little more refined though. I wouldn't mind having both. Once these are gone they are gone for good.

@@truthhurts2149 no problem. They are great jackets.

I have one that's similar to the one in this video with the three stars followed by "98" (I assume size) and "1944", is it possible that's the date the jacket was made?

I have a m39/58 jacket from 1940 and my pockets are cut different than yours. Maybe they changed it up in 60
@worldwarguy4595 жыл бұрын
judo k as far as I know, there are about 3 different models of this coat, hence the name m39/58 which basically means that there was the m39 then a improved or changed version in 1958 (m39/58) hope that helps
@judok14265 жыл бұрын
@@worldwarguy459 You are right I think. I've also seen three variants. Standard collar, two slanted pockets. Standard collar two straight pockets. Collar similiar to the German M40 with two straight pockets and also two chest pockets. The major change for the 58 seems to be the two rear pockets and some added fabric on the underarm. (Maybe a swede could chime in and set everyone straight.) Thanks for the videos.
@Nubbpiraten4 жыл бұрын
The atletered m39 was called m39-58, the changes was that the backpockets where added they added extra fabric in the armpits, sew together the split in the lower back and took away the shoulder patches. The changes were made starting 1958. The grey m/58 and the green m/59 uniform was actually developed together, the m/58 as a winter uniform and the m/59 as a summer.
