Unpopular opinion. Individual accountability is important. If you’re chatting online with someone and they won’t meet you in person or do a live video call “proof of life”, then there is some level of willful ignorance. With that being said, her cousin is evil.

How do you get engaged to someone you have NEVER interacted with in the flesh? You haven't seen their body language, their behavioural habits. How they behave around other people and in different circumstances? Also not hearing their voice?! I wonder if both this woman and her cousin have psychological problems
@beewest570420 сағат бұрын
There definitely is some psychological issues with both. It's sad that Kirat shows no introspection into what role she played in this situation. She was a victim its not her fault she just needs to recognize her vulnerabilities & weaknesses that led to her being a compliant victim. If she does not she will find herself in a similar situation. I hope she gets therapy & have a long successful fulfilling life of her choosing.

If your reading this, I wish things grow better in your life from all this. Lots of comments wondering why be engaged to someone you haven't met but that might be related to coming from a background where arrange marriages were once a norm? And I don't think this was about love, it was about hope . That connection probably helped you get by in life when nothing else felt fulfilled . May a fulfilled life rise from these ashes 🙏🏽

I actually watched this on Netflix last night. I felt so sad for you Kirat, I admire your courage and strength. To find out it was your cousin it's incredibly disgusting. You have to be really mentally disturbed for her to violate your emotions and your feelings. I hope you get a lot of support from close friends and family. 9 years it's such a long time. I felt your pain. Terrible that she did this to you. I hope your pain over time will ease a little bit. 💞💞

I understand that people are vulnerable but to fall in love and get “engaged” to someone you have never met, never video called and barely heard speak, for the best part of a decade is ludicrous, someone from her family should have given her head a wobble. I’m not one to victim blame but I do think she needs to accept responsibility for her part in this and understand why the public aren’t going to demonstrate much in the way of sympathy.

I don't feel sorry for her. She looks like an intelligent, logical person. So, how did she start a long term relationship with a stranger for years in this day and age of technology and social media without meeting him? Not a single call? Not a single video chat? Not even a single visit? Nah. She had this coming.

@chillout1109 There must have been something seriously wrong if she allowed herself to believe this was real - maybe she was comfortable with the distance and not having a real relationship and only wanted the intimacy and emotional side of it. Either way, no way is that a healthy relationship - it's 9 years of nothing.

That's the weirdest part. Im sure she could get swept up in the fantasy but how did her parents, sister, friends, collegues not smell a rat. When you are in thing you can often not see the woods for the trees but why did they not? Was that left out?

Indulgence in ones fantasy rather it be a fantastical romance or the desire to assert control over others are all delusions these two - the victim and perpetrator indulged in. Unless you are under aged or mentally challenged, you must take some accountability.

I think it's unfair to blame someone who's a victim in this. A well-meaning person would believe a lot of it, and once you're in love it's really hard to let go, especially if the other party does exactly what's needed to give hope to you. It's horrible. It's so easy to say many things, but it's such an elaborate scheme she fallen for. Something needs to change, all sorts of identity scams are happenning and they won't go away, and while technology advances - we don't we're the same humans. Regulations need to be created. Kirat, I wish you the best, none of it is your fault, you're great!

Sounds like this lady escaped reality pretty hard for quiet a while and finally snapped out of it after almost 9 years... I kind of see how she was victimised and not that any one should care about my opinion at all but laws should be created against this kind of thing just for the sake of the people getting cat fished, You cant judge to harshly its rather unfair to as every ones mind works differently, there is no justice these days in situations such as this one, I mean I know there is more awareness now about it that's for sure especially due to cases like this being shown on Netflix and the TV show Catfish as well👍

Simran should have been sentenced to a mental institution for some years or something. She is obviously profoundly ill & I doubt Kirat was her 1st & only victim. This could have ended very badly. Our laws stay behind on stalking & technology driven crimes.
