Had another listen to this a year or so on from Steve's sad passing. A very poignant and interesting interview. I think Stevie Stewart the keyboardist is very sincere and has a deep level of care for Steve. That is nice. Steve Priest was one of a kind. He always seemed to be so happy and taking the p*ss to an extent. He had a sense of fun, which added to the early Sweet stuff. He also had a killer voice, which added so much to Brian's lead singing. I know they all sang but Steve's timing and sync with Brian made the band (IMO) - along with Mick's strong backbeat of course and once Andy arrived, you can't knock his guitar work and falsetto bits. Andy says Mick was the best muso of the 4 - but looking at all the old videos, it's hard to ignore Brian's no-nonsense (if tortured) stage presence and Steve's light-hearted sense of fun and humour. I'm sure Steve is a massive loss for his wife and kids and I pay respects to them. Rest easy Steve - hope you're having a good catch-up with Mick and Brian.

I really enjoyed this interview, you captured the reality of the after show. This is a true document of record and is actually a model of how an interview can be done in unplanned situations. It's good to have the background noise as that paints a picture of stuff outside the frame, and then seeing the door being closed to get more intimate. I don't know why people complain, do they want a corporate talking head bit with painted set and comfy chairs? Steve has a lot of charisma for an old geezer.

@japfeif

That is interesting thinking....so many people believe that the ONLY true incarnation of a band is it's original, and anything other is a tribute/cover band. They say it about KISS, Journey, etc. So let me ask truly....so to the folks who feel this way....if a hypothetical band is , say, at the top of their game and nowhere near retiring and one or even two members die (so the "original" lineup is impossible), if they get replacement members are they no longer the "band", but no a tribute band? Or does this just apply to certain bands? And it's not just you Barrie, I hear this a lot (and I am a musician myself), and always wonder about the mindset of folks who feel that way...it's like a band better never lose a member or have them quit or die, because a replacement will just result in a "tribute band"...or is it okay for some bands to do this but not others? Mick & Brian are dead, they can never obviously be in the band again...so is there just NEVER to be a band "SWEET" again? Do they just pack it up? Or if Andy & Steve managed to put differences aside and BOTH be in the same incarnation of the band would it THEN be Sweet? I seriously do not think AC/DC or Van Halen were ever "tribute bands" when they replaced members....
@elisabethpipart1433

Fabulous? He looks like shit. And all the crap he talks about… Chinn/Chapman, Bowie… all lies from an old and frustrated man
@VyxenBlack
@VyxenBlack 5 жыл бұрын
If you saw how he was looking a while ago he has improved a lot, he was looking sick and is starting to get healthy, has lost weight, so yeah I think he is looking great.. as for the Chin/Chapman and Bowie stuff..Lies? All 4 of them even back in the day..had those things to say about chinnichap, who although provided them some hits and success, where very reluctant to let the band take any control themselves..and Bowie, though I like him, is not the god some people make him out to be, he was a borrower of many ideas from many sources, not an original thinker..maybe he improved and took things further, but he was not the originator of everything... many bands took both musical and stage inspiration from Sweet, and some are finally starting to give them credit for it.
@ashstar2915
@ashstar2915 5 жыл бұрын
@@ronster1959 Looks like shit? Really? Compared to a few yrs ago he's looking great here for his age, and has improved a lot. You can't expect someone to look the same forever you know! As far as Chin and Chapman, if you had done your research, which I doubt you have, you'd realize that the band had very little say so back in the beginning of their career. Also, musicians copy other musicians, this has been done forever. I like Bowie, but just like everyone else he copied ideas from others. Yes, he might have been more successful and I give him credit for that, but he certainly was not an original on everything. Bless Steve for still doing this all these years and still keeping Sweets music alive. That's not an easy thing to do, and he deserves to be recognized for it.

If you think you're going to get agreement, here, on your asinine comment, you are sorely mistaken. Steve has a FIERCELY loyal fan base, of ALL ages, that recognize how fabulous he is and will defend him against your unfair criticism to the end. What do you have that would even begin to compare to Steve's talent, charisma, and good looks? You'd best step off, pal. Steve, we love you. I hope to be able to see you in concert one day! ❤

@restim while you are entitled to your opinion, one wonders why you’d even bother to post it as it does nothing but insult and attack a man who has spent his life creating music. I agree with @Foxy-On-the-Run that, compared to previously recorded interviews done as recently as a couple of years ago, Steve is looking much healthier. God bless the man for his spunk and devil-May-care attitude. I enjoy him and could listen to his stories for hours. I certainly can’t fault him for his perspective and hope that when I’m 70 years young I’ll be just as lively as Steve. I can’t vouch for the 100% accuracy of his statements, but since he actually lived it, it’s his story to tell and I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Go rain on someone else’s parade.

Steve's starting to look a little bit frail these days, but hell, he is in his 70's now.

@@gabriellefagan1014 Yeah, I only found out yesterday, and was totally shocked to read of his passing away. He, along with Brian and Mick are all sadly missed, but are now in "Glam Rock Heaven" r.i.p Steve, Brian & Mick. Hang on in there Andy.

The audio sound stinks. The guy interviewing is loud and clear because he's holding the microphone close to his mouth, But Steve Priest is not understandable. because the microphone is nowhere near him.

I think one of the big Problems was the name SWEET. For a boy, it was not cool to be a fan of a band called the Sweet. No matter how great the music was. The name was for girls.

Nah, this was the early 70's. Androgyny was in!! There were plenty of male Bowie fans, too.

Andy Scott y Priest no debieron subir tanto de peso, se deben al show. Les afectó la desintegración de Sweet.

Damn it seems like this clown in a hat is making Steve Priest tour against his will. They are trying to make money of Steve and his name.
