Sweet was 1970s British Glam Rock. They were influential on 80s metal. They did sometimes do heavy rock, but they are not always remembered for that. Underrated band in the US.

Sweet was the first ”real” concert I saw. Without my parents, Stockholm 1975. They were huge back then. I was 11. Not just glam-rock, quite heavy rock, not kids stuff. And yes, they played ”Ballroom Blitz”.

Sweet were one of THE glam rock bands, with big hits such as Fox On The Run. The song you listened to is different, to me it always felt a bit proggy. I was an 11yo boy when this was released, and I remember playing air drums to it. BTW, I’m glad you listened to the full version. Back when it was a hit the radio stations usually played the 7”, because the long one wasn’t radio compatible. My favourite station sometimes played the long version, later in the evening.

Thank you so much for reviewing the extended version of LILO. I think I may have commented previously but wanted to add a couple of things. This song comes from the Album "Level Headed" (1978) which was their last album as a 4 piece band - they parted with lead singer Brian Connolly shortly after. Level Headed also included two additional musicians. Although much maligned by the press throughout their career I recall one article following it's release that said "Sweet have finally grown up". Absolutely recommend listening to Lettres D'Amour and Fountain at the very least but the whole album is brilliant. I actually use the last track "Air on A Tape Loop" as my morning alarm. You have previously reviewed Man With The Golden Arm by Sweet featuring the amazing Mick Tucker (RIP) on drums - there is a live version of this available and you have recently reviewed Fox On The Run. The thing with Sweet was they were always evolving. Singles typically had heavier B sides - classic albums were Desolation Boulevard (UK version), Sweet Fanny Adams (pre-metal metal that had huge influence on a lot of bands), Give Us A Wink (heavy), Off The Record (next level experimental) and Level Headed. They released three albums as a 3 piece for polydor and went their own ways. Lead Guitarist Andy Scott has pretty much toured with his version of the band since then and has released a number of singles and albums (check out the single X-ray spex). Andy is the sole surviving member and is currently undergoing his final tour - this is accompanied by the newly released album "Full Circle" which is pretty damn good. Fun fact - Bass Player Steve Priest made his first bass himself. For a long while there he loved his rickenbackers.

The Sweet is the same band as Sweet, they just dropped the "the". You've seen Wayne's World? The song Ballroom Blitz by Cassandra (Wayne's girlfriend) is a song by Sweet.

Every school dance in the 70's played Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz". It was their standard. along with their other hits, "Love is like oxygen" and "Fox on the run". I would not be surprised, if it somehow rang a bell...

The Sweet is a great band. They are the first rock band I heard when I was only 8 years old. And I became a big fan of rock, still today at 60 years old. However, I became a fan of The Who just by reading Tommy's story. Sadly, among the Sweet, only Andy Scott remains. The band still exists, performs concerts and has just released a new album. The other members have passed away. I have a special love for this band. This track analyzed dates from 1978 but I think the video is earlier. Among the Glam Rock bands or artists of the 70s, there are notably: The Slade, T.Rex, Suzi Quatro, David Bowie, Gary Glitter, Roxy Music, ... Thank you for sharing.

They had so many hits, here in England, Funny Funny, Co Co, Papa Joe, Little Willy, Wig Wam Bam, Blockbuster, Ballroom Blitz, Action, The Six Teens, Teenage Rampage, Fox On The Run, Love Is Like Oxygen. Sadly, only Andy Scott is still alive, but he is still touring, and keeping the music alive.

First hearing of the longer version, thanks. A good pop band morphing towards prog?
@pleasantvalleypickerca76813 ай бұрын
They started in the 60's as a pop band having their songs written by Chinn/Chapman. Then they got tired of being classed as "Bubble Gum Pop" got rid of Chimm and Chapman and started writing their own songs that were far better and rocked really hard. Their album "Give Us A Wink" is bordering on Metal as it's so heavey. It's my favorite album by them as it really "Kicks Ass". Love Sweet they were huge in Canada in the 70's. Bought all the albums and 45 rpm singles too.

It was re uploaded because the video got blocked by the record company. It had over 10 thousand views and the sponsor even reached out asking about it, so after editing it got unblocked and we realized adding it back to the channel felt like the right thing to do. All we needed to do was cover up the video in the corner. I think we could never run out of ideas but we appreciate your feedback as always, Brian👍
