Still a favorite of mine after all these decades - always gets me going . Every time I hear it I can't help but think of ELO as the arrangement just sounds perefect for them ( lead vocals aside ) .

More a love song. A song for lovers. Other songs they rocked out more. They had a lot of great songs though. They were much better than I think a lot of people realised. Not just another pop group.

Just LOVE Sweet, & they've never gotten the respect they deserve. This song really shows their versatility & talent. They're also responsible for one of my all time faves, "Fox On The Run". Back in the day, that's what my friends & I THOUGHT we were - "foxes on the run"! Thanks for this reaction, sir!

This is one of those songs that I identify with my very early teen years when it was released. I have never been a huge fan and I don't have any of their vinyl albums, but I really liked this song then and I still really like it now. You could say it's timeless.
@lancepickett56532 жыл бұрын
The Sweet were masters at reinventing their sound and image. The started out as a Bubblegum band playing Chin and Chapman songs, then they started branching out into a more Bubblegum/Glam Rock sound. This then metamorphosed into Glam/Metal followed by this more Prog sound.

At heart, the Sweet were a hard rock band, Chinn and Chapman got them recognition with their bubblegum ( but still impressive) chart oriented singles. If you listen to some album tracks and B sides, you could easily confuse them with Led Zeppelin or even early Iron Maiden (Set me Free, have a listen, you'll see what I mean) They never got the recognition they deserved. And the instrumental break in this track is very 'Tubular Bells'!👍👍👍

Recently You had mentioned that English Glam bands on that era never seemed to do well in America, I said of them all the Sweet did the best with songs like Fox on the Run and Little Willy, they always had superior musicianship, but this was their Magnum Opus it an amazing display of talent from a pop band

Great reaction, Harri. The full-length track was played on album-oriented-rock (AOR) radio stations back in the day (and a shorter version was played on pop radio). I'm glad you enjoyed the middle instrumental section and the fade-out at the end. Such great vocals and harmony, superb musicianship and an all-around cool-sounding production! I've heard some people say that they always thought this one was an ELO song. :-)

Love this song, more 'Prog Rock'. I love their early 'Glam Rock' stuff like 'Ballroom Blitz' etc, but from what I've heard, they didn't, it wasn't the music they wanted to play but were made to by the record company. After a lot of success, they were given more control and this style started emerging. Unfortunately this line up only lasted about another year until the singer Brian Connelly left. Great reaction as usual Harri.

The Sweet are amazing, great memories of songs playing on the radio in the 70's when I was a kid, like January by Pilot, I'm Not In Love by 10cc, I Love The Sound of Breaking Glass by Nick Lowe, How Long by Ace and A Horse With No Name by America.

I read online on Wikipedia that the band started off as The Sweet Shop ... and then shortened their name to The Sweet for their first album cover ... and then shortend their name even more to just Sweet by their second album cover. I think people in England and Europe still prefer to call them The Sweet, while Americans know them better as Sweet.

This unfortunately was there last hit in 1979/80, Brian Connolly was the lead singer and was with the band since they started. Brian's drug and alcohol abuse basically wrecked the band and they eventually kicked him out. The band was never the same again.
