Sweet Miniatures in the Budapest Gambit

First video on the Budapest Gambit: • Simple and Deadly Trap...
In this video, I expand on the previous one and answer some viewer questions while showing some additional variations and games.
Most notably, I delve into the variation: 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e5 3.dxe5 Ng4 4.Bf4 Nc6 5.Nf3 Bb4+ 6.Nc3 where white attempt to hold onto the e5 pawn with an eventual Qd5.

Vidmar was an interesting cat, a chess hobbiest that had a 'real' job as an engineer and just crushed GMs for fun. In a 1927 tournament in New York (via Bill Wall) "It was in this tournament that Vidmar lit up a cigar while playing his friend Nimzovich. Nimzovich was irritated by the smoke and complained to the tournament director, GM Geza Maroczy. After consulting with Maroczy, Vidmar agreed to stop smoking and the game resumed. A few minutes later, Vidmar absent-mindedly pulled out another cigar, but was not smoking it. Nimzovich went up to Maroczy and complained again. Maroczy said that Vidmar was not smoking. Nimzovich replied to Maroczy, “You’re a Grandmaster. You know the threat is stronger than the execution.”

A strong line for white (if you face this) is to go Qd2 and if Qa5, Rb1 effectively stopping Nxe5

(main line) 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 f5 3. Probably best for white not to hang on to the pawn too long. Something like 4. e4 Nxe5. 5. f4 gives white a good game.

I was wondering what happens if white simply gives back the material to black and going straight for development with the following line: 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e5 3. dxe5 Ng4 4. e4 (returning the pawn and the knight has to move a 3rd time which seems just weird)

Yes the knight moves 3 times but white has made only pawn moves. In my experience black is fine in this line. E.g. Nxe5 5.f4 Nec6 and your plan is a5-Na6 and to develop the bishop on c5 or b4 if allowed.

@@elrodtherocker I wouldn't play f4 that early. Seems a little bit too weaking to me especially without any development. After e4, I'd rather play a3 (to prevent Bb4+) and Bc5 would be slightly inaccurate due to b4 and white gets to put the bishop on b2 with beautiful counterplay. I'd really like to hear Eric's point of view for this line.

I can recommend playing a setup combining b6 Bb7 and g6 Bb7... the double fianchetto is nice and leads to a solid position in the middle game.

I think you should examine 4...g5+(From Black Side) because it is exciting to play and have good tactical opportunities for both side PLS COVER THAT PART IT WILL BE VERY USEFUL FOR US. Also I wanted you to cover After Bb4+ from black what if white play Nc3 instead of Nbd2
