As a kid we had a family dog who kept getting out and going over to the neighbors across the street. Apology after apology to the man, he finally opened up and told my parents he is terminal, found out around the time our dog kept getting into his house to hangout with the man. Long story short the man eventually passed away. Our dog kept visiting daily. Dogs are remarkable

My dad passed away three months ago. After 63 years of marriage to her best friend, my mom is just beginning to feel the pain of the loss. I spend just about every weekend with her now but I realize that it’s not really me she’s so happy to see, it’s my pittie! He runs to the house to greet her and she welcomes him with open arms - sometimes she doesn’t get around to greeting me for 10 minutes. First she has to give him his hugs and back rug, he gives her kisses (which he does to no one else on the planet, not even me because I hate dogs licking my face) then she has to take him to the kitchen for a drink and a snack after his long trip. After I shut the door, hang up my coat and join them in the kitchen she’ll sheepishly say hi and ask me how I’m doing. I pretend to be jealous of the dog, but in reality I’m glad to see how happy he makes her at such a tough time for her.

It’s as if many submissions “place” animals in staged situations and then “rescuers” just so happen to pass by in the animal’s hour of greatest need. Is this your concern too? My mother and my staffordshire have the same relationship. And its beautiful, we lost my father very quickly as well. The first time my dog slept in bed with my mom, in the morning she says "He snores just like your dad did!". He has provided a comfort for her that words can't describe. Which in turn is a comfort to me. My dog understands our family heirarchy. And she is the head of our family. He loves her so much.

When my parents were living the cats I had successively, they considered either a grandson or granddaughter and I just busted out laughing when my first cat was done with her health check the Vet came out into the waiting room and said to dad you can take your granddaughter home now. It was the first time ever heard someone else use that term. Mom hated cats but loved mine. And my first cat adored mom.

When my folks were alive, they had pictures of my dogs on the wall and would show them off to friends as their grand kids. They did that cos every time they went to their friends, they were always shown pictures of 2 legged grand kids and it really bugged mum to the point where she asked for photos of her grand kids to show them off. She would also brag about all the tricks they could do and the fact that they were never naughty or made a lot of noise lol 😆

I love Wally and his Grandma! Wally knows she adores him. Their bond is so special. There can be grandchildren, but some grandparents still have more time and love to share. My parents had 2 grandsons, but my dad was the one who did the most to spoil his "granddaughters", one was a Rottie mix, and the other, a Pittie. He used to go to a bakery in his city and buy them these huge bone-shaped cookies. if a visit to my house wasn't coming up soon, he'd box them up, and mail them to "the girls", including putting their names on the package! My sons used to shake their heads when they saw a package addressed to Marilyn and Coco in the mailbox. My dad always made sure I had plenty of those treats on hand, even when he wasn't hand-delivering them himself. Both my parents and Marilyn, the Rottie mix, are gone now. Coco is 11.5. When the bakery has the cookies, I still buy them for her. I hope she remembers getting those cookies and the happy times she spent with her Nana and Pop.

My grandma loved our pets. Two of the them would run and jump all over her and we have a lot of pics of her laughing like a kid when the greeted her. One of the cats was always on her lap as soon as she sat down.

I have 1 granddaughter and 3 granddogs♡♡♡♡. My daughter suffered a miscarriage with her first pregnancy, when Mother's day was approaching several weeks later I could see it was increasing her struggle. So I made her cards and gifts telling her she was a mother and an awesome one. All from her 2 dogs at that time. It seemed to make a day she dreaded into one she was able to endure with a few smiles. Once again these boys helped her through it all
