There is something to be said about "Inbreeding" too much of a good thing is not healthy. They all all cute and like you say - better to have a good home, good health, and enjoy your fur babies. I do prefer them to humans ... They are always happy to see us come home.

Another reason why I prefer DNA testing over pedigree. No one can lie about parentage with DNA and EmbarkVet literally gives a percentage of inbreeding for each dog. It’s called Coefficiency of inbreeding or COI and it can tell how inbred a dog is going back generations. And yes, so true, dogs are way better than humans in so many ways 😍

Well said! Having had both deer head and baby doll face, they’re both great dogs! (Although both of my girls prefer babydoll face/apple head, no question LOL). Also, we’ve had our Luckytails Nail Grinder for several weeks now and it’s the best! I’ve tried many tools and methods for trimming dog nails, and it’s by far the best! Quick, quiet, no hassle! I 100% recommend it!

I love my dear head Chihuahua. Apollo is my best friend. I didn't get him from a breeder, and he weighs 11 pounds so I'm pretty sure he's mixed with some kind of terrier. But he is loving and affectionate and loves to cuddle while we watch movies.

My favourite head type is an apple with smaller, forward-pointing eyes and slightly longer snout - similar to the AKC, but probably slightly off what would be considered good for a show-quality dog. Kinda delicate and pointy, but with the cute, round skull. My partner, however, ADORES the deer-head. My first chihuahua, Pippin, was like a tan-coloured Anubis in his head shape, he was an incredible handsome and noble looking little dog. Our new chihuahua, Tuppence, is also a deer-head, though his snout is more finely pointed than Pippin's was. Kinda between a deer and a pear right now. He's only 13 weeks, so it's hard to predict, but he looks like he'll develop a bit more of a muzzle slope and length, and have a very fey, fox-like look to him. He's impossibly cute, and once his long fur grows in, he'll be like a tiny fox-lion. He's one of the prettiest puppies I've ever seen, and I know his look is very unique - I'll likely never find another chihuahua with his head shape, and it makes me a little sad. He's such a beautiful chap.

Judy is an apple head. Her round “domey” head is was originally caught my eye on the NSPCA website. There is nothing I love more than planting kisses on her “sweet little domey dome”. 🤗 Deer heads are beautiful too. And those baby doll faces are just too much adorableness in one little face! 🥰😍❤️

My Mango had applehead parents, even if his forehead isn't quite 90° and his muzzle is a little long, so I've had people tell me "that's a deerhead not an applehead" which honestly made me kinda upset? He still has the dome forehead, but he was sold to me as pet quality. And I don't love him any less for it. To be honest, I feel even better about you and how you raise your dogs after this video, knowing you have values and opinions that I agree with. Obviously you care very much about chihuahuas and with so many unethical breeders out there, it's refreshing. Also, I've become quite fond of babydolls as well and I'd really like my next puppy to be one. Personality and health is important too, though. Keep up what you're doing. You always make me smile :)

I've never investigated properly but Dempsey came fully registered with the UK Kennel Club. He had a soft spot like a baby.🥰😍 Most sought-after puppies are those who come registered with the UK Kennel Club and the buyer is then responsible for transferring ownership details which is when I guess you would find out if it had been authenticated litter. I would have a chihuahua no matter what she looked like. Love to you and yours. 💖💃

Very similar to the way things have been over here in USA with AKC. I used to do AKC but switched over to DNA testing a few years ago. To me, the genetics are more important to help ensure healthy babies. But you’re right, no matter what, they’re precious babies 😍

@@hex37 as far as I know, there is no studies done on the difference between Applehead and Deerhead lifespan. They are both very healthy and hardy little dogs.

What happens if you breed a deer head with an apple head? That’s what my baby is and she looks more deerhead but she is tiny. I plan on getting a male applehead in the future but I am unsure if this would be bad for breeding now if they’re not the same.

AKC requires that the dog listed as the stud on the application to register a litter has submitted a DNA sample to validate the dog is pure bred and that the lineage is a stated. If the a puppy from that litter subsequently has a DNA test that doesn’t match what was submitted on the application-then the whole litter is disqualified and the litter cannot be AKC registered, and the breeder likely loses all AKC privileges FOR LIFE. It happens, and bummer for the folks who may now have a puppy that was purchased no longer able to participate an anyway related to AKC.

I personally am disgusted that Deer Heads are not recognized. I have a $3000.00 Chiuhuahua named Marilyn El Chapo Monroe and she is pure white(yes she has a mole and she is called El Chapo when she is naughty.)...She literally could be a show dog but she is not recognized that is ridiculous..

Are there certain traits to look for in a puppy if I want a true teacup chihuahua? Due to my own health issues I can’t handle a dog that weighs more than 4 pounds and the height has to be no more than 6 inches. Otherwise I would not be able to bathe my baby or even hold he or she on my lap. My niece purchased a “teacup” and he ended up growing beyond the outter limits of a standard chihuahua! Of course she loved him despite his size. But I can’t take the chance of my future baby growing that big. Any info you can give me, would be appreciated. Blessings to all. ❤️🙏

Hello, there’s really no way to guarantee a puppy will stay the size you’re looking for. My best advice is to 1) find a reputable breeder. There are many, many backyard breeders out there who don’t know the first thing about breeding and are just in it to make a quick buck. Many of them are as dishonest as they come and will use “teacup” as a way to sell for a higher price. They often lie about the age and sell a 5 week old puppy (too young to leave it’s mama) claiming it’s 8 weeks old. This just to trick the buyer into thinking it’s tiny 2) visit the breeder in person and see the size of the parents. Obviously there can be some variation in size from the parents but typically the babies will end up a similar size to the parents. If the breeder gives you some silly excuse why they can’t show you the parents, move along to another breeder. 3) be prepared to spend a lot of money because a true teacup (layman’s term) is going to cost a pretty penny. If you see an ad for a teacup and it’s listed at $1000… I can pretty much guarantee it’s not a tiny one. My tinies are currently going for $7000 + Wishing you the very best!
