So it turns out this does NOT work on Jiyan. Thank you to those in the comments who pointed it out! I double checked, and I also went and tested everyone else. Besides Jiyan, every other character ALL have Dodge Counter s. Maybe the dev's themselves forgot to add this in for Jiyan because they didn't think players would be dodging with him.

This is basically making use of the entire dodge animation window instead of being quick to cut it short to follow up with a counter which also has its own . It’s not sweatiest option but the offers some safety and dps. I saw a video detailing the lasting the whole animation of dodge, but I didn’t think this would be useful in fast boss chain attacks in combination with counter . Thanks sweetily.

First, good vid. I discovered this a while back, and didn't think much of it, but I can see why it would not at all be obvious to a lot of players. Use your invuln moves people. Dodge, counter, ults, intro skills all have invuln. This is speculation/conjecture on my part. For the arrow rain you used in your invuln frame testing, the variance might be due to timing. I believe dodges are frame 1 invuln (meaning no start up frames that can be hit), and the arrow rain is likely not just a continuous hitbox, but rather a multi hit move with several consecutive hitboxes, each doing damage at set intervals. If its like other such moves in other games, then there are also likely small gaps between hits where one hit's box ends, then a gap of a few frames, then the next hit's box goes active. So depending on your initial dodge timing, invuln might be expiring during one of those gaps, leading to the appearance that there is variance in invuln frames on a given character's dodge. It's also unclear to me if the dodge slowdown affects projectile speeds, or just the enemy's actions, or if it's a global slowdown, so the slowdown could be playing a role in the variance you see in invuln frames, depending on what you are dodging. In other games, often when you dodge/parry/counter something, the properties of that mechanic are applied to the thing you using the mechanic against. Just some speculation from a fighting game player that wishes this game had a hitbox viewer with frame data info. I'm surprised there isn't a 3rd party tool out there to extract the frame data from the game files yet.
@SweetilyVT6 ай бұрын
I agree. I don't think actual dodge s should have variance, I gave an estimate for the frames because I also believed the arrow rain does not do "continuous dmg" in the sense that there should be a gap of a few frames, but it was what I thought came the closest. One interesting thing I did find from my testing was that dodges MIGHT not have frame 1 invuln - I have some captures where I can clearly see my character moving or starting to launch but I take an instance of dmg 3-4 frames in. It could just be a input variance though, since I'm not using a macro it's possible in those cases I pressed a direction key a few frames before I pressed dodge, so the directional movement made me take dmg.
@XxTexasTimxX6 ай бұрын
@@SweetilyVT If you have an input display program of some kind, you might run that while you record so you can see exactly what you input when stuff like that happens. I also have footage of some char ults starting up, and the char dying in the ult animation. Its unclear to me if it's a visual bug of getting ult animation, but the char already died (maybe ulting on the same frame as death), or if ults simply don't have frame 1 invuln.

A little tip, the 4th hit of Encore can parry so if you do a counter attack and notice the enemy is about to throw an attack you can parry just attack right after the counter attack since that is Encore's 3rd attack, i had been doing that against Mephis and is very consistent but i don't see anyone talking about it...

In my experience, Counter Attack invulnerability has about about 0.5 - 1 second invulnerability window which also varies per character i believe? so make sure to dodge right away when facing multiple hit attacks before the invulnerability window timer runs out. Great Video!

hii something else to add about the delayed counter atk i-frame is that u need to not input any movement keys after the dodge. lots of people think the delayed counter window is much smaller than it is and its because any movement keys interrupt the delay counter.

I know I'm a few months late, but I want to point out that a delayed counter can actually yield a higher DPS in certain situations compared to the second "sweaty" option of successive quick counters. Certain dodge counters (e.g. Yinlin, Yangyang) are also chain attacks in and of themselves. As such, if you know that an enemy's about to reach the end of their attack chain, going for a perfect dodge against the second to last hit - then following up with a delayed counter to i-frame the one right after - is going to be the better option. As Sweetily pointed out, it's an optional trick up your sleeve that's good to keep in mind and can be very useful if you know how to appropriately blend them into the flow of a fight. Also, considering the video was out before Changli, I'd also like to point out that her vertical displacement due to E can be exploited to dodge certain ground attacks. I actually don't know if they have i-frames but they most certainly displace her hitbox vertically. Same goes for her teleport during enhanced NA. Xiangli Yao can do something similar with his E's, but the windows are tighter, and again, I'm not sure if they are just hitbox displacements or if they also implement i-frames. I'm sure other characters have similar gimmicks. I'm yet to build Youhu but I bet she also has some crazy stuff going on for her. Her forte mechanic is all over the place as is.
