Important note! This song was not written by Neil Young! It was written by another Canadian country and folk singer songwriter, the late Ian Tyson! Some how Neil Young seems to get the credit for it because this was one of his favourite songs and he sang it all the time!

Young mistakenly gets the credit for it because his version was the best selling, and Tyson got the most royalties from Young's version. IMHO Young's version is also the best probably because of the riff that he added to it. all other versions are less compelling, including Tyson's himself. he he stated that he's very happy w/ all the royalties from the Young version.

"Four Strong Winds" is a song recorded by Canadian folk duo Ian and Sylvia, from their 1963 album Four Strong Winds. The song was written in 1962 by Ian Tyson, one half of the duo, and was the first song Tyson wrote. Tyson has stated that he wrote the song in about 20 minutes in his then-manager Albert Grossman's New York apartment, and was inspired to write it after hearing Bob Dylan sing.[1] The song is a melancholy reflection on a failing romantic relationship.
