Mike is there a fix for the other hinge style? My 2009 Suburban LTZ drivers door pops really bad when closing from full open position.
@SweetProjectCars
@SweetProjectCars 5 жыл бұрын
Tim Forfar we just did a 2009 drivers door hinge as it is a real paint to replace it which you may have to do. what we did was look for the pin that was loose and snapping then we took and spot welded it on top with a miller wire welder and problem solved, any good mechanic can do this for much cheaper than replacing but as I mentioned you may have to

This is a good idea! If u want an easier solution, u can get some dowel pins (M2, M3, etc. depending on the car), unbolt the two bolts securing the check link to the door jam, put the dowel pin in between, and bolt the check link back on. Also don't forget some lubrication. I used M2 pin which is small but enough to cure the snap noise on my car (I can probably go larger, but worried larger dowl pin may put too much stress on that pivot?) Only takes a couple minutes to do.

Great tip. I had something like this happen to a door on my Mustang several years ago. A plastic door roller cracked and broke off. Dealership told me the door had to be removed from the car to fix it. I bought the part. It was like $1.50. I told the guy at the dealership I was going to cut the roller in half and drill a couple of holes and screw it back together and file the screws flush. He said it would never hold. I kept the car several years and it was still together when I sold it.

Very nice trick. I have been a Volvo owner for 52 years. And I have let you know that I grew up working with my father at his Gulf stations. When we did a lube and oil change, we vacuumed the car and treated the door hinges and “detention” hinge with a paraffin based lubricant called door ease sold at NAPA stores. It is in stick form that slides up as needed and capped with a tin cap. I have a stick that is at least 30 years old and still using it on my Volvo’s. I will comment that the detent that you show is a really poor design. Volvo uses a steel spring with two rollers that sound like something breaking when they need lubricant. You can stop the noise with any spray lubricant (but it will be back soon) or with wheel bearing grease (which won’t make it through the hot times of the year down south here) but will need lubricating by the next spring. But the Door Ease may last several seasons. If people lubricated the door hinges and detent regularly, they would put you out of business on this repair. The old professor

Great video. I have a 2004 Sienna in which the door check mounting bracket in the door broke off. Any suggestions??? I bought a new door check but I can't mount it. Thanks.

You've got to find a way to get it mounted, you may have to take it to a body shop, but you have to get it mounted. Thanks for watching and asking, have a great weekend. mad Mike

HOLY SHIT, I just used your mothers polish technique on my boat today. It came out amazing. mothers DESTROYED the other two boat specific polish/compounds results that I have. I will never use anything else. its so much easier to work with too. Damn your the man , Thanks brother. after wet sanding the entire boat, I used it with a wool cutting pad and mothers. I think I might hit it again with the 3m yellow polishing pad. would you recommend I use mothers again fir a final polish or something finer?

RicWorks247 use the mothers to final polish then use this by hand amzn.to/2YplIRh and then look out brother it will be amazing

Hi i have the same problem with opel astra h. The problem is at the gray part or the black one? The problem is that is broken( cracked?) or the gap when its open ? Because I can't go to a mechanic for a few days to fix it .a bigger problem may arise and the door may get stuck or remain open? Thank you very much

Look up your car online and just replace it, your best bet is to do that because it sounds like yours is broken beyond repair so just replace it with new. Hope this helps, have a great day and all the best on your project. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Awesome fix but I think this might be limited to mostly GM/Chevys... cause this is happening to my Ford F-250 but instead of the base piece being cracked the sound is caused by two divets in the black arm part. Still enjoyed watching video though :)

Hello, I have question. I have a camry that I applied the door check with some fluid film and now it swings open with no resistance. I tried to clean it off with brake clean and it didn't work. any suggestion?
@SweetProjectCars
@SweetProjectCars 5 жыл бұрын
Mazda Speed the fluid film will be very hard to remove the best thing you can do is get some of this amzn.to/2CF71jQ it is the only thing we found that will work and spray it every day as deep into the door check as you can and it will eventually dry up and work again you only need a few squirts everyday

So it's a matter of "wedging" something solid between the door jam (via the back of the clamp) to prevent the door check arm from moving forward? Something's gotta bend to hold that tension, correct?

As you see in the video, it's a very simple process, just follow the video instructions. The door hinge is wearing out, we are making it last longer. Thanks for watching. Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC

Great tutorial! I just bought a 02 Honda Accord and when the doors are closed for a long time, (for example the passenger door is hardly ever opening), it seems like the weatherstrip around the door and the frame of the car are sticking to each other since the door is bit hard to pull. I wonder if it is actually the weather strip? It makes a mushy sound whenever I open the door and/or close it. I also have to close the door a bit harder than usual for it to close all the way. Doesn’t look to be crooked either, what do you think? Thanks!
