I have seen bikes that the owner did this mirror finish work on the engine side cases. This was a popular customize job on the old XS 650 Yamaha engines. There was a problem when making the engine look so good…. it really makes an older motorcycle look like crap. It’s like having a filthy car with two brand new chrome bumpers on it without washing the car. Or just washing the windows on a muddy car… you have to be sure to Put the effort into the whole vehicle

Flitz sells 2 and 3 inch diameter buff balls you put on a fast drill, corded or cordless. They don't get into the fins the way this thing does, but they do get into any small nook and cranny, and they have no exposed metal at the tip or anywhere. The small ones also are mounted on a longer metal rod. So you can reach pretty deep into the bike easily, and they do a fantastic job polishing. They're washable so at least with Flitz own polish you can reuse them many times. No easier way I know of to polish spokes, either, if you have old school spoked wheels (they also have larger diameter options for more generic polishing of larger surfaces). The very low profile of this design is nice though, for doing things like engine fins.

Good video. Anyone try using Pop Rivets instead of Bolts
@SweetScoots4 ай бұрын
The reason we use bolts is because we know most people don't have a rivet gun, but that is a really good idea. Question: Is there a clear coat on stock Rocker Boxes or are they just good chrome?
@SweetScoots Жыл бұрын
I do not believe that there is clear coat on the chrome, but a quick way to find out is to take this amzn.to/3uzQ2Ip and rub an area with a microfiber towel and if it turns color at all, you will know that it is not clear coated. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, have a great week. mad Mike

@@SweetScoots Thanks Mad Mike, My 96er Rock boxes look so nice I was thinking they must be clear-coated. I was looking at a 103 a few months back, and was thinking they looked yellowish, like the top end had overheated and yellowed the clear-coating. -Wicklow Kelly - Ireland.

Do you think this would work with stripping paint off older style air cooled fins ? Or just use stripper and follow up with your method? Trying to polish a turd basically, looking for that mirror finish end result
@SweetScoots Жыл бұрын
Get the paint off there with this amzn.to/3Z2Gl48 then follow up with our method shown. You have to be relentlessly patient and do a little bit at a time so you don't drive yourself up the wall :) Thanks for watching and asking, have a great week and all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike Sweet Scoots

Bright motor and wheels so much nicer than the current tragic trend of fugly black everything
@SweetScoots10 ай бұрын
I’m with you it takes a lot of effort to keep your stuff shiny and I think our society is slowly getting extremely lazy so let’s just paint everything flat black lol thanks for the comment my friend mad Mike

what about if someone has put paint on the engine and I want to take it off and polish the fins ?
@SweetScoots Жыл бұрын
You need to remove the paint, this amzn.to/3Pq5liM is the only thing that will possibly work as they have outlawed all of the good paint strippers these days. Hope this helps, thanks for watching and asking my friend, have a great week. mad Mike

Dont have a grinder or vise? You should make and sell those, just a suggestion
@SweetScoots4 ай бұрын
We wish we could but dealing with selling items to people these days and how sue happy everyone is we would end up in federal court because someone used the tool incorrectly, seriously some people are just an accident waiting to happen for some business or inventor. Thanks for the view and suggestion, we appreciate it my friend, have a great week. mad Mike
