I'm from (and still live and work in) Evansville, IN -Andy Timmons' hometown. I was teaching guitar at a local music store (circa 2007) and giving a lesson to a student whom I showed an Ace Frehley-sounding lick. I happened to comment that while the lick was all over the place in rock guitar, the fastest I'd ever heard it played was on an Andy Timmons tune called "Groove or Die." We gave it a listen, played the lick, and both agreed Andy played it faster than either of us would ever manage. When the lesson was over, we walked out onto the main showroom of the store only to discover than Andy was actually in the store talking to the owner (Andy was back in town to visit his dad, Gene). I told Andy that we had JUST been listening to one of his tunes and asked if he would mind showing us that particular lick at tempo; he was more than happy to oblige. Both me and my student were floored. A great memory... Andy's an amazing person and one helluva guitar player!

I love how they're both masters at their craft and there's still the slightest bit of vulnerability when next to another proclaimed guitar legend talking about how they approach things. Shows you that no matter how good you think you are there's always an element of feeling like not knowing it all or being caught off guard with something you're not comfortable with and room for growth and learning. I've been playing for well over a decade but still see myself as an amateur and seeing that really re-affirms that what we do as guitarists is a personal journey and there's no road-map for this thing we love
