he's no god. He's the "ultimate student" in skill and theory but the thing he is missing is original sound. EVH has a sound, Dimebag had a sound, Tom Morello has a sound, Hendrix had a sound, Iommi invented Heavy Metal (doom and sludge to be exact). Petrucci chases Metallica and Rush in essence (and those bands have a sound). If there was a new song at random on the radio, he doesn't have anything in his writing that makes you go, "ah, that's Petrucci right there". He maybe be a nice guy and retailers love him as a poster boy for their marketing, but he doesn't have sound. He's no god. Frankly, no one is.

mooncountry1017 While I certainly agree that he is just a human, I don’t know man, I think you’re underselling him a bit, IMO. This kids pride in his work.... just one of the many reasons why I only shop sweetwater. Their attention to detail and customer service is hands down unmatched. Quick note, the fact that they assign you your own rep, who you can call to ask questions and whom will go out of their way to get you set up is phenomenal. Having my own person, who knows me and calls to check in and let me know about sales etc is really cool. They are never pressuring to make a sale either, they just like chatting about gear. My rep helped me get a custom color dimarzio pickup one time, was not something they had available, or something they even manufactured.. but he called the manufacturer and set it all up for me, free if any additional costs, and totally did not have to do that.

I love that he got totally rabbit trailed with the setup tech! He might be the only heavy metal guitar player that I would let babysit my kids. Ha ha!!

Sweetwater is a very cool company altogether. I ordered a Bass guitar from them. Three days later, it was delivered to the door. They even gave me a random call just to see if I was still satisfied with the purchase. So,I will definitely do business with them again. Awesome video. Just don't get much better than that.

That was awesome. JP has shown time and time again what a top bloke he is. I love how much of a full music nerd he is and he probably made that young bloke's day. No rock star attitude, just a devotion to his craft and the love of sharing it with other people. Classy.

That's about the most pleasant interaction between two appreciators of the guitar I've seen in a long while. John needs to take that young man under his wing because he's very talented and can be quite famous if given the support.
