Great to see Ned again. I worked at his factory in Newburgh NY during 1984. I can still immediately hear a Steinberger playing in a song from the 1980's. Still a unique sound.

I played a high school graduation party in Maine in June of 2012. Ned was a guest and was referred to as "Uncle Ned" though I believe he was more of a longstanding family friend to the parents of the graduate. Ned approached me shortly after the end of the second set to tell me how much he enjoyed my bass playing. It was one of the greatest compliments anyone has ever payed me!

I plan to use Planet Waves auto trim tuners in my prototype guitar which, as noted earlier in the comments, is a Ned Steinberger design. Also, I have a number of friends who are extremely grateful for Ned's collaboration with Emmett Chapman to create the NS/Stick. It is great to see Ned interviewed here.

Great interview. And Ned Steinberger is a genius. He and Leo Fender are the most important in the history of guitars imo.

26:07 the interviewer is smiling because he knows the setting of Star Wars was "a long time ago." Check out the iconic opening crawl, Mr. Steinberger! No offense though, you still rock! Looking forward to the new guitar you mentioned near the end of the video!

Does Sweetwater still carry the Steinberger travel guitars anymore? I never see them for sale. I wish they had the Synapse model which has EMG pickups and is the best model.

Granted the Transtrem bridge hardware has issues but there's no legitimate excuse not to be able to reproduce an all graphite GL2 Steinberger electric guitar in the year 2023.

I know I am coming at this from years after it was originally posted, but Ned is a true innovator. Those who hate on him are fools. The instruments he has designed may not be to your personal liking, but that does not change the impact he has made on music & musical designs.

Interesting fellow. Some people are comfortable in the box. The more creative types think outside of the box. Ned doesn't believe there is a box.

Only he took to heart that negative input that he couldn't ever play the violin. Sure, not orchestral probably but he could have played rock or whatever for pleasure or even gigging if he practiced. I quit because I didn't have perfect pitch. But I found I have some chops. But I admire Ned tremendously. Great man!

Ned please finish new guitar design I'm dying of curiosity :) Also I think there must be magnetic pickup option for the violin. I own WAV 5 and am not completely satisfied with piezo pickup even and flat sound spectrum.

is it just me or are the Spirit basses and guitars have a bigger body than something like the L2. And if that is true, does anyone know why?
@LRS905
@LRS905 7 жыл бұрын
Well, the Spirits are "reinterpretations" of the original composite material instruments. Thus the "Spirit" monicker. Not an exact recreation of the originals, so the dimensions were not reproduced. Very nice instruments, still. Have had plenty of them, and just today I got a new Spirit GT Deluxe, very happy because they are getting kind of hard to find.
@curbowman

The originals used a "boomerang" piece to stabilize the instrument. The Synapse uses a longer upper side to avoid adding that piece.

Hi. I just ask myself, why was this company sold to Gibson who buried it? So all the fans of these basses have to run after sellers who sell the available basses for horrible exagerated prices. I could not afford a bass like this in the eighties. Now, I could. But I don‘t pay these prices of japanese or american sellers. That is sad! Hohner made the same experiences. Who could they fail also?
