Paul was my idol growing up, and this video is yet another example of a big reason why. I'm sure he's done thousands of lessons like this now, and his love of music and the joy he gets from sharing his knowledge of it is always so evident. He's a world-class talent, and also a plain genuine guy.

His enthusiasm is so contagious. makes me just want to crank to 11. You can tell he loves teaching and that his students and fans adore him cause he is genuine and kind and just wants to help others play. Love Paul's new stuff. I had the pleasure of taking a private lesson from Paul almost a decade ago and this "leaving out the sixth" thing was something he mentioned and I've kept it in mind ever since ;-) It's a troublemaker over most chord changes, that sixth!

Paul's my favorite guitarist. Guy's got shredding chops for days yet is an unabashed fan of pop music. He's like a taller, shreddier John Mayer. Also learned a ton of stuff from his instructional vids as a kid. Loved his Intense Rock series and his teaching style.
@_azu75 жыл бұрын
please dont compare one of the most dangerous guitar in the entire planet in sheer technique and virtuosity to john mayer . its disrespectful seriously ; john maybe good but nowhere near the ultimate players such as PG
@dajoler5 жыл бұрын
@@_azu7 Yes, I can and just did. You know that Paul Gilbert loves pop music and has covered a song by the Spice Girls, right? And John Mayer's not exactly a shredder, but his guitar skills have been praised by Eric Clapton himself. That's why I compared him to Paul -- neither of them are elitist tools and are able to comfortably make and enjoy different genres of music.
@_azu75 жыл бұрын
@@dajoler Eric Clapton is a good songwriter but do you even know his technical standpoint? PAUL GILBERT BRUUUH WHAT GRASS YOU SMOKIN MY 11 year old brother can play john mayor / Eric Clapton shit . PAUL GILBERT dont use that name aside those mfs without any chops . they're good in poppish shit but sheer technique?! pg can eat them roast them grill them in seconnnds . And yeahh i have listened to 2 become one , john mayer and EC himself could never come up with that solo portion in that song ; neverrrrr though PG plays stairway's solo when he plays it live
@dajoler5 жыл бұрын
@@_azu7 Holy shit. I think I just got brain cancer from your post. I think I'll end this by saying that Paul Gilbert himself would be the first one to say that you can have all the chops and technical ability in the world -- if you can't write anything memorable, then there's no point, is there? Oh, and good luck to your 11 year old brother. If he's able to play John Mayer or Eric Clapton, then he's clearly a lot smarter than you and will actually be able to have a career in music, unlike his older brother.

That looks like something he made... A round wooden puck with a mic element inside? I have seen bluegrass players with a mic down near the floor on the stage to mic their foot stomps. IIRC the clapton unugged MTV gig had something like this. Thats an amazing recording / performance too btw... The venue acoustics are amazing.
